Galicia is a Spanish region with almost 3 million citizens situated in the North-West of Spain and north of Portugal. It has its own government and parliament.
• In Galicia, everyone speaks Spanish, but it also has its own language called Galician.
• Santiago is the capital of Galicia.
• For centuries Catholics were pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela. Nowadays many people make “El camino de Santiago" walking or cycling and it is a tourist and religious route.
• The Cathedral of Santiago is one of the best known monuments of Europe and the most representative of Galicia.
About 8 km from my hometown is the center of the city of A Coruña.This city has about 250,000 citizens and has an airport, a football stadium called “Riazor”, shopping malls, cinemas, a port ( with tankers, cruise ships and sport boats), a Symphony Orchestra, museums, etc …
• The most important monument in the city is “La Torre de Hercules“, which last year was declared a World Heritage Site.
• It is the oldest operating lighthouse in the world.
