New Pastoral Council for Sacred Heart Church

“I urge you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and in the same purpose.”

1 Cor 1:10

The sacred scriptures are full of admonitions from God encouraging his people to live and work together in unity. “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” says the psalmist (Ps 133:1). At God’s command Moses appointed seventy elders. Later, God said to Moses, “I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone” (Num 11:16-30). After spending all night praying, Jesus appointed twelve apostles to help with the work of evangelization. This is the essence and tradition of the church – God gathering people together to work in unity for salvation. In keeping that spirit, we have just commissioned a new PASTORAL COUNCIL for the Sacred Heart Church. The purpose of the pastoral council, in the words of Pope Paul VI, is “to examine and consider all that relates to pastoral work and to offer practical conclusions on these matters, so that the life and activity of the People of God can be brought into greater conformity with the Gospel” (Paul VI, Ecclesiae Sanctae I, no. 16). Two heads are always better than one. Thus along with the finance council whose responsibility is to ensure good stewardship, the pastoral council will focus on all things pastoral – the overall spiritual and social life of the parish. They will ensure that Sacred Heart is vibrant, actively engaged with the word of God and growth oriented. The following are the members of the new council:

This council will serve Sacred Heart for three years. So I urge you brothers and sisters to pray for the new council that they may server the parish with humility and generosity of heart. May God who started this noble work in them help bring it to fruition through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hate. Hate is a word that has been used pretty regularly in the past year in every single media outlet. A lot of the news has been about the election and the future of our country but has constantly included acts of violence, racism, segregation, hate crimes, the list goes on and on. We live in a world that seems to be fueled by hate in some way seeing how everywhere we turn the word seems to be thrown in our face. Even in our own community at a local high school there has been national coverage about an act of hate through racism, this is unacceptable! This past week in the midst of our regularly scheduled program we took some time to talk about all the hate that is going around as how as Catholics we are called to answer this hate. When all is said and done the answer is simple, to live as Christ lived to best of our abilities. We are called to be Christ like in our words and actions and if we truly can achieve this the world will be a better place.
