ABOUT THE SHOW AND ARTIST .

Barefoot Puppet Theatre has been building and performing original works since 1997 when founder and director, Heidi Rugg, began building puppet shows in the basement of her home in Richmond, Virginia. From these humble begin-nings, the company has grown significantly. Barefoot Pup-pets now tours nationally to theaters, schools, and libraries while continuing to create new works for children and their families.

Children explore the islands of the Galapagos Archipelago with Barefoot Puppets in their award winning show, Galapagos George. Based on the true story of "Lonesome George," this show tells the tale of a truly one-on-a-kind tortoise from the Galapagos Islands. Watch baby George, the last remaining Pinta Island tortoise, as he befriends sea turtles, lizards, hungry goats, sea lions, and dancing blue-footed birdies. He grows up sweet and happy in the Gala-pagos archipelago. Of course there are few bumps: it it is a little lonely ... and watch out for the pirates! George is just a hatchling when the show begins, but he gets really BIG! Fall in love with George, the not-so-little tortoise in this fun, adventurous tale.

TRY THIS AT HOME Make Your Own Finger Puppets

Supplies: felt, scissors, glue, markers, and googly eyes.

Directions: 1. Fold a piece of felt and trace your fin-ger onto it by placing your finger at the edge of the fold. 2. Cut along the traced line until you get to the fold. When you unfold the piece of cut felt it will look like a heart that doesn’t come to a point at the bottom. 3. Add a line of glue to cut edges of the felt, leaving the bottom open for your finger. Fold the felt together and hold in place until the glue dries with a clothespin or by sitting a heavy object on top of it. 4. Decorate your finger puppets! Add googly eyes, draw mouths, and cut out ears, wings, manes, and even bow ties to glue on!
