Narberth Fire Company CalledOut to Quench Several Blazes

Last Thursday night numerousbanqueters told the Narberth firemen that they were good. Thecompany, during t he p as t week,has had several opportunities todemonstrate that fact.

'rlH::-lirst"anu most seriol1sof theblazes occurred SuncI"ay morning.

At 9.30 George 'V. Michener, of104 Elmwood avenue, was shavingwhen a passerby informed him

that the roof of his home wasablaze.Mr. Mi ch en er r us he d to the

phone. The call was confused,and considerable delay resulted ingetting a connection. Finally, bymeans of the police phone, the firehouse was reached a nd t he alarmsounded.vVhen the firemen arrived they

found t he a tt ic and roof in flames.Then followed a quarter hour ofintelligent firemanship, during

which the blaze was extinguishedwithout drowning out the rest ofthe house.A "wash nozzle" was at tached

t o o ne o f t he big hose lines. Bymeans of this a small spray ofwate r was applied to the flamesfrom the inside of the house, Twosmall chemical lines and a j udi ciously used ax enabled the firemen t o conquer the blaze, whichhad gained considerable headway,with a minimum of water loss.
