Where is Amaliapolis?Where is Amaliapolis?
Amaliapolis is a village in central Greece. It
is also called Mitzela.
It lies by the sea and it is built in the form of
an amphitheatre.
It was named after Queen Amalia, the first queen of the
modern Greek state, in the 1840s.

Our Village, by Xenia, Helen and Popi (6th Grade)
Our village was created in 1837 by refugees coming from Old Mitzela, on Mt Pelion. There,
Mitzela had been ruined twice in the past. Therefore, Queen Amalia granted the people a place to live near Almyros and that is where
they built Mitzela. Then, its official name became Amaliapolis.

tourists in the summer. It is not large and not many people live here in the winter. You can eat fresh fish in the
restaurants. A famous product of the area is the olive oil. Every summer
there is a funfair on August 6th. There are a lot of foxes and snakes here.

The Harbour, by Giorgos (6th Grade)
In the harbour, there are many fishing boats and three cruise liners. In the summer, many
people go on cruises with these ships all over Greece. When the ships leave, the
children dive in the sea and come out climbing on the
rocks.
