Hello Shelley Families Term 4 will certainly be very busy with a diverse range of activities to engage the students and finish the year positively.

“Volunteers’ Thank You Morning Tea” Wednesday 2 December at 10:15am Parents and volunteers are invited to the school for a “thank you” Morning Tea. Volunteers are an important part of school life from helping in the Canteen, Library and classrooms and religious education teachers to supporting the P & C. Please join us on Wednesday, 2 December at 10:15am in the staffroom. We are looking forward to catching up with as many volunteers as possible.

Teachers Thanked and Celebrated on World Teachers’ Day 29 October 2015 Last Friday students, parents, support staff and school communities honoured the 24,587 teachers working in public schools across Western Australia as part of World Teacher’s Day. As Principal of Shelley Primary, I am proud to acknowledge ALL staff that work in this school and the positive contribution they make in the lives of our students. The Shelley staff is committed to improving the learning outcomes of all children and they all work extremely hard to provide the best possible education every day. THANK YOU SHELLEY STAFF!

AUSTRALIAN PROBLEM SOLVING MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIADS - CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations to the Shelley Primary School Maths Olympiad Team who finished in the top 25% of schools across Australia and New Zealand. The following students need to be acknowledged for their excellent results: Testing for the 2016 Maths Olympiad Team will take place at the end of Term 1 next year.

PLANNED EXCURSIONS Please note that excursions require a great deal of organisation and collection of payments. Parents are asked to take note of the dates when payment is due and for the ease of collection of money and bookings to ensure that they return permission slips, together with appropriate moneys, by the due date. Remember that the preferred days for payments are Wednesday and Thursday. This allows for better time management for teachers and office staff. Payments sent after the due by date will not be accepted as the school is currently running five excursions as well as other collections for payments.

SCHOOL COUNCIL AND P&C OPEN MEETING

Thanks to all who attended last night’s Shelley School Council and P&C open meeting, which included two special guests – Hon Sue Ellery MLC and Mr Paul Ng, the new Canning Mayor. The meeting opened with the unveiling of the new mosaic at the school entrance, which celebrates 40 years of Shelley Primary School being part of the Shelley environment. P&C President Paul Madlener gave an update on what the P&C has been up to, including the library upgrade and the successes of the canteen and school banking program, and change to the uniform shop. Principal Gillian Murgia then provided an update on school programs and student results. The School Council presented its 2014-15 annual report, which highlighted the Council’s work over the year. Council Chair, Fran Stanley, reported that this included endorsing the school’s 2015-2017 strategic plan and receiving updates on its implementation, together with surveying the parent body on whether religious education should continue to be delivered at Shelley Primary. The Council also received regular updates on and discussed student results, school finances and delivery of various programs. If you would like more details, the annual report is available on the website.

HELLO SHELLEY FAMILIES!

Last week was Halloween week and the children had a great time making themed lanterns out of plastic cups, and wrapping themselves in toilet paper to turn into mummies! Our new ELA will be starting THIS Thursday 5 November then 5 consecutive Thursdays Time: 3.30pm to 4.45pm

This 5 week detective training program includes activities such as; finding, developing and characterising fingerprints, identifying analysing hairs and fibres, comparing footprints and how the offender escaped. Once inside the crime scene our detectives must; tape off the area in order to protect the evidence, identify the clues and evidence, and collect, interpret and analyse the evidence For enrolment, and more information, please contact us using the email and phone number below. Looking forward to hearing from you! LET'S WRITE A LETTER TO SANTA! It is Christmas time again and you know what that means don't you? It is time to write to Santa. Australian post’s Santa Mail program is running again in 2015 and provides a wonderful opportunity for lower primary school students to practice their writing skills by writing a letter to Santa. Each student who writes a letter via Santa Mail, and provides an Australian return address, will receive a special reply from Santa. Letters can be written with pen and paper or using the teacher section of the Santa Mail website: http://auspost.com.au/education/santamail/ You will also find festive lesson and activity ideas, Christmas around the world student facts and plenty of interactive fun in this section of the website. Please remember not to leave your letter writing activities to the last minute. Unfortunately many children each year miss out on a response from Santa before Christmas as we can’t reply in time. To avoid disappointment be sure to get your letters in early. Thank you for participating in Santa Mail, from the team at Australia Post.
