Weekly Update April 10, 2019 Our Vision We are a growing community of believers committed to walking with Christ, welcoming all, and serving God by serving others. The Triumphant Entry Dear Brothers and Sisters, Holy Week begins with such excitement. Jesus arrives in Jerusalem amongst great celebration and expectation during the holiest of Jewish holidays, Passover! People are waving palms in the air and shouting Hosanna as He enters through the gate riding on the back of a lowly donkey. He did not have to ride on the donkey, he could have just walked in but he did so to fulfill the prophesy written in the book of Zechariah concerning the Messiah in the Old Testament. Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9 Jesus was sending the message that he was a different kind of ruler then the world expected and that this prophecy was fulfilled in Him. He was not a prince on a great horse but a savior willing to humble himself, riding on a donkey. Great symbolism here. And to experience that symbolism we will reenact our own Triumphant Entry with our Palm Sunday Parade. We will meet on Railroad Green to follow a donkey up to the church entrance (thank you Ed Wiley for finding us one again). We will wave our palms and sing our Hosannas as we remember this important moment in Christ’s ministry. We will gather on the green at 8:45 and 10:45 and march up South Street to the church. This is a great experience for young and not so young. I hope to see you there! Affectionately yours, Fr Jim

The Triumphant Entry

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Holy Week begins with such excitement. Jesus arrives in Jerusalem amongstgreat celebration and expectation during the holiest of Jewish holidays,Passover!

People are waving palms in the air and shouting Hosanna as He enters throughthe gate riding on the back of a lowly donkey. He did not have to ride on thedonkey, he could have just walked in but he did so to fulfill the prophesy written inthe book of Zechariah concerning the Messiah in the Old Testament. Lo, yourking comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on adonkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9 Jesus was sending themessage that he was a different kind of ruler then the world expected and that thisprophecy was fulfilled in Him. He was not a prince on a great horse but a saviorwilling to humble himself, riding on a donkey.

Great symbolism here. And to experience that symbolism we will reenact our ownTriumphant Entry with our Palm Sunday Parade. We will meet on RailroadGreen to follow a donkey up to the church entrance (thank you Ed Wiley for findingus one again). We will wave our palms and sing our Hosannas as we rememberthis important moment in Christ’s ministry. We will gather on the green at 8:45and 10:45 and march up South Street to the church.

Please help us make Easter a little nicer for needy families inthe Town of Warwick.

This year, ShopRite Supermarkets is offering a “free holidaydinner favorite” to any customer who spends $400 betweenSunday March 10th and Saturday April 20th. One of those--theSHANK HALF COOK’S SMOKED HAM--is particularly prized byour families because they get so many meals out of the itemand ham is a favored meat variety.

If your family is not using the holiday dinner favorite this year, please redeem the coupon for a SHANK HALF COOK’S SMOKEDHAM no later than April 20th and donate it to the food pantry.(You don't have to pick up your item and take it to the foodpantry. You can go to the courtesy counter and designate it forthe food pantry).

We ask only that supporters give to us something they will notuse themselves.

Questions or other inquiries may be made to Glenn P. Dickes, director of the pantry, at 845-986-8368 [email protected]. Thank you for your support.

Mark’s Gospel-- Uncovered

Mark is the shortest of the canonical gospels; it can be characterized as a “justthe facts, ma’am” style of writing which is why it is such a wonderful Gospel tounpack and uncover. Mark's Gospel in one sense represents the simplest formof the early Christian message, but there is such richness beneath the apparentsimplicity.

Join us as we dig deeper into this Gospel’s essence through a close examinationof Mark’s writing style and uncover more profound truths that relate to youreveryday life! Led by Mother Deborah. Bring a bag lunch if you would like.

All,

Welcome to the first phase of the JUNIOR WARDEN'S SUSTAINABILITYPROJECT, a series of activities over the next two years that will both beautify, and make use of, our Grand Church Campus. In this first phase, the focus will beon the neglected property behind our church parking lot. We will feature a numberof plantings in this area. Plans are in the works to plant, enjoy, and harvest a

number of vegetables and specific plant groups. This year's focus will be ontomatoes, peppers, sunflowers, milkweed (for butterfly propagation) and buddlejadavidii (for butterfly and hummingbird attraction).

Here's where you come in. I will need chicken wire, stakes, tomato cages, bagged soil (non-inert, which means enriched with fertilizer and manure), and ofcourse plant material. Give whatever extra you have as you begin your owngarden projects. How cool is setting aside something for your church? No need todrop anything off. I pick up. There are a myriad of ways you can pitch in if you like.I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best Regards,Mark Arnowitz, your Junior [email protected]
