Report
1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institute :
Various Activities like Seminars, Workshops, Guest Lectures and
Industrial visits were organized by various departments on their
respective subjects and areas of specialization based on the syllabus for
the overall development of the students.
The Placement Cell has been successful in bringing leading Hotel and
Food service establishments to the campus. Majority of the students were
recruited in these organizations through the Placement Cell and 100%
placement is expected by the end of the current academic year.
The college focuses on student’s academic development by the following
means:
Remedial Coaching and tutorials for the students who are weak
in their studies.
Encouraging students to prepare and present assignments in the
form of PPT, group discussions, etc, so as to improve their
subject knowledge, presentation skills and overcome fear of
public speaking.
Conducting model examinations to prepare students for the
university final examinations.
Guidance & follow up in the project work of students.
Pre-examination guidance is given to students in all subjects by
the respective faculty.
Solved question papers of previous examinations were given to
students for easy learning and to provide a structural guideline
for answering in the university examination.
The College organized several extra - curricular activities under the
banner of NSS, Student’s Council, Cultural & Sports Committee,

Rotaract Club, Gastronomy Club, the Elixir Club, Synergy Club,
Entrepreneur Cell to bring out student’s overall calibre and to mould
them in such a way that they can take up any challenges in the world of
hospitality and also to inculcate a feeling of social obligation to society at
large.
A Workshop was organized by the college showcasing various culinary
skills, at Dr NSAM PU College Nitte, Karkala on 7 th of December
2011,headed by our lecturers Mr. Donald D’souza, Ms. Veda J Rai, Ms.
Divya D’souza and students from the final year.
To inculcate Moral and Social responsibility in our students, the Rotaract
Club celebrated Christmas at Samvedana Home for HIV positive children
on the 21st of December 2011.
An Industrial visit to Nadini Milk Dairy, Kulshekar, was organized to
familiarize students with various milk and milk product processing
systems, on 13th Jan 2012.
The institute strives to keep the students updated about the food and
beverage industry. From this perspective students were taken to Naksha
Coffee Curing Industry Kushalnagar, SLN Coffee processing unit, and
Kodagu Orange Grower Cooperative Society, Gonikoppa on 21st Jan
2012.
Cristaleria- A record making competition for identifying 35 bar glassware
in 1 minute 20 seconds was held on 4th of Feb. 2012. The record creator,
Mr. Rinnumon Joseph identified 37 bar glassware in just 51 seconds.

Only BHM program is conducted in the institution
3. Innovations in Curricular design and transaction :
The academic curriculum is designed as per the regulations of the Mangalore
University.

Innovative teaching techniques includes the following:
Interactive teaching and learning is promoted in the classroom. The
involvement from the stake holders is encouraged.
Guest Faculty from the industry are invited for guiding and
motivating students
Industrial and educational visits were undertaken to supplement
classroom teaching
Various suggestions were forwarded to Mangalore University for
improving and upgrading the BHM syllabus according to the
current trends of hospitality industry
Project work and tutorials were undertaken to create practical
awareness and knowledge among students.
Our faculty who are members of the BOS (Board of Studies) and
BOE (Board of Examinations) of the Mangalore University have
put forward their suggestions about the changes that need to be
made in the BHM syllabus.
Staff members are encouraged to participate in Hospitality and
related Competitions within the Campus and outside.

5. Examination reforms implemented :
Keeping in context, the performance of the final year BHM students, tests
were conducted in all subjects by the college to guide the students in their
academic performance.
Question papers from the previous years were solved & given to the
students in order to facilitate better understanding of the subject &
explain the methodology of answering examination papers.
As the college is affiliated to the Mangalore University, the instructions
of the university are followed strictly while conducting the examinations.

7. Initiative towards faculty development program :
Our faculty member Mr. Savio D’souza attended a four day seminar
from 25th-28th July 2011 conducted by Nitte Engineering College,
Karkala on the topic “Introduction to therapeutic counseling for
engineering teachers”. This programme in faculty development was
helpful in understanding how to deal with teenagers in their early
adulthood and how to handle their problems efficiently.
Our faculty member Ms. Basavarajeswari. D attended an executive
development program organised by JKSHIM, Nitte on the topic
“Bonding, Branding and Customer Relationship Management” on
23rd September 2011.
The Institute conducted a One day workshop on 25th November 2011
for the staff on the topic “Teacher Effectiveness”.
Our faculty members Ms. Veda J Rai, Ms. Basavarajeswari D , Ms.
Divya D’souza and Mr. Donald D’souza participated in a two days
training progam on enhancing personal effectiveness-“Personality
Plus” at NUINS, Derlakatte on 11th and 12th of April 2012.
Faculties are encouraged and sponsored to attend seminars, Ms
Dhanya. C. Menon attended a National level seminar titled, ‘Healthy,
Economic and Convenient’ conducted by University of Agricultural
Science, Bangalore held on 9th and 10th December.

To create awareness among the students about the ecosystem, to provide
information about snakes, snake bites and first aid in case of snake bites,
the Rotaract club of the college organized seminar on 19 th of August
2011. Mr. Joy Mascarehnas was the resource person.
A National conference on ‘Aviation & Tourism Opportunities,
Challenges & New direction, on 21st and 22nd August 2011 was
conducted by the Tourism Department of Mangalore University, our
Faculty member Mr. Terence Rodrigues was one of the resource persons
for the same and spoke on the topic ‘An analytical study on the critical
issues facing tourist satisfaction in Indian aviation and tourist sites with
special reference to the development in Mangalore – Karnataka state’.
A seminar on the topic “Emotional Intelligence and Effective
Techniques for Successful Managers” was conducted on 26th August
2011 for the final year students.
A workshop on culinary skills was conducted by our faculty members
Mr. Donald D’souza, Ms. Veda J Rai, Ms. Divya D’souza and students
from final year at Dr NSAM PU College, NITTE, and Karkala on 7 th of
December 2011.
Mr. Ratandeep Battacharya from WGSHA, Manipal, conducted a
seminar on the topic “Brand Management Technology in the Hospitality
Industry and Basics of Front Office Accounting” on 16th January 2012.
The seminar was conducted to keep the students updated about the latest
trends in the Hospitality Industry in India and the world over.
A seminar on “Education abroad and procedures for applying” was
conducted by Mr. S. L. Rajesh, Edwise consultant, Mangalore on 19th
January 2012, with the aim to provide insights to our students on higher
education abroad.

Students of VIII semester BHM pursued research studies on various
hospitality related topics. A field study was undertaken in operational areas
of their specialization. Details of the same are mentioned in Annexure-1

16. Internal Resources generated :
To develop entrepreneurial skills of the students, various clubs of the
college prepared and sold food and beverages in the college cafeteria. The
revenue collected was utilized for the student’s development and club
activities.
Theme dinner, ‘Heaven and Hell’, was organised by the students of 5 th
semester BHM on 27th of August 2011.The fund generated through the
ticket sales was credited to the class account for developmental activities
of the students of the same class.
The Elixir club collected a token amount through weekly movie shows
which was utilized for the future activities of the club.

The amount collected as registration fees through Ganadores, an
intercollegiate Food & Beverage service quiz competition, organized by
Elixir club was utilized for purchasing prizes for the winners of the quiz
competition.
The amount generated through the sales of ‘The Decanter (newsletter of
the Elixir Club)’, was credited to the club account.
The funds collected through the sales of audio CDS of The Elixir’s music
band ‘Rhapsody’ were deposited in the club account.
The Elixir club utilized the amount from the sales of its annual magazine
‘Wine Down-2’ for the club activities.
The Gastronomy club conducted, Gateau Guerre- inter house cake
decorating competition and the registration fee collected from the same
was used for various activities of the club.
The funds generated from “Concours De Cuisine”-inter college cookery
competition organized by Gastronomy club on 20th August 2011 was
diverted for the future activities of the club.
Enigma a state level intercollegiate competition was held on 29th August
2011. The amount collected through the registration fees was utilized for
organising the event and the proceeds were credited to the respective
class account.
Rendezvous -2011, a National Level Intercollegiate competition was
conducted by the 2nd semester BHM students on 30th August 2011.The
amount collected from the registration was utilized for organising the
event and added into the class account.
The fund generated by the Annual Food Festival ‘Aroma’, was utilized
for various student activities.

The Institute inspires and helps the students to contribute towards
community related services, like serving the underprivileged, social work
etc.
As a corporate social responsibility, the Rotaract club organized a Dental
check up and treatment camp for the local residents and also for the staff
and students of our college, on 15th of September 2011. Doctors from AB
Shetty Institute of Dental Sciences college conducted the camp.
The NSS unit of our college in conjunction with K.S Hegde Medical
Academy had organised a Medical Camp in the college premises for the
local residents and for the inmates of St. Antony’s Poor Home,
Mangalore on 16th of September 2011.
As a continuing practice to provide for the poor and the needy, the
Rotaract Club donated old clothes collected from the staff and students,
to St Antony’s Poor Home, Jeppu Mangalore on 2nd of October 2011.
As a gesture to create social and moral awareness, members of the
Rotaract Club celebrated Christmas at Samvedana Home for HIV
Positive Children, on 21st of December 2011.
Anti- filarial medicines were distributed to all staff and students on 25 th
January 2012 after medical consultation.
Our students participated in half marathon commemorating the ‘Heart
Day’ was organized by ‘Life is Calling’ organization, Bangalore and
sponsored by Nitte Education Trust, was held on 29 th January 2012 at
Panambur beach.

21.Improvements in the library services :
Our library is our pride and one of the best for hospitality information
references. The college has a well established library that caters to the

needs of the students and the faculty. Following are some of the features of
our college library:
Apart from the text materials, Internet facility is also provided in the
library to encourage the students to access different hospitality
magazines, reference books and educational websites.
Wi-fi device is installed in the library to facilitate easy access to website
EBSCO host- a server link for searching articles and literature for the
research project.
22.New books / journals subscribed and their cost :
Books worth Rs 9,265 were purchased in the academic year 2011-2012.
The amount spent for journals was Rs. 62,000
6 newspapers and 9 magazines were subscribed along with 3 national
and 2 international journals
23. Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the
action taken on student feedback :
Student assessment of teachers in the form of informal feedback is often
taken after 10 days of commencement of the semester. Appraisal forms
are given to the students at the end of each semester to assess the overall
performance of the faculty. The management discusses the outcome of
the feedback jointly with the faculty for taking appropriate measures.

certificates :
Admission process, examination results and accounts are run on special
software developed for this purpose
Computerizing the administration work has resulted in efficient and
accurate record keeping.

The college auditorium was completed in March 2012.
27. Technology Upgradation :
Wi-fi devices were purchased and installed in the library, office and
computer lab to facilitate students and faculty to access the internet and
specifically the website EBSCO host- a server link for searching articles,
literature for the research project related to hospitality.
28. Computer and Internet Access Training to Teachers & Students :
Faculties use softwares and computers as innovative teaching aid.
Internet facility is available in the computer lab, staff room and library.
E-magazine and E-journals are accessible to the staff and students in the
library.
29.Financial aid to students :
Fee concessions are given to the meritorious students and students with
financially weak background. The institute granted a fee concession of
Rs.1,30,000 to the eligible students.
30. Support from the Alumni Association and its activities :
The Alumni of the college participated in the alumni meets and provided
the students with necessary information pertaining to the Job
opportunities that arise in their organization. Cash prizes for students who
have proved their excellence in studies are sponsored by the Alumni
Association.

The Alumni has been contributing to the growth and development of the
college by sharing their professional experiences and providing financial
aid to the deserving students.
31. Support from the Parent-Teacher Association and the activities :
As a step towards facilitating better interaction and communication with
the parents of our students, the PTA was inaugurated on 3rd September
2011 and discussion was held on issues pertaining to students overall
development.
Second PTA meeting was held on 10th February 2012 and issues related
to internal exams, attendance and discipline were discussed.
32.Health Services :
As a corporate social responsibility, the Rotaract club organized a Dental

Keeping in mind the overall health of the students, Doctors from K S
Hegde Medical Academy, initiated a health check up camp .The same is
scheduled once in a week for each batch of students and staff. This was a
new step taken towards providing quality facilities to the students and
staff of the institution.

33. Performance in Sports Activities :
Interclass Football match was conducted on July 24-2011. The interclass football tournament was conducted with the intention of finding out new talents.
Students participated in the Independence cup football tournament conducted on 2nd August 2011 by Mangalore Football club at Nehru Maidan.
Mangalore University athletic meet was held from 30th November to 2nd
of December 2011. Our students participated in various events namely 100mts, 200mts, Discuss throw, Shot put, Javelin and Long jump.
As an innovative practice the college organised games for the non-teaching staff on 28th December 2011.
The College Annual sports day was organised at Police Grounds, Mangalore on 29th January 2012. 14 events for boys and 10 events for girls were conducted which included athletics. The prizes were distributed on the annual day.
An Interclass cricket tournament was conducted on 3rd March 2011 and the fourth year BHM students won the championship title.
College organised an interclass Volley ball tournament on 3rd March 2011 and the fourth year BHM students won the championship title.

Our student, Mr. Anurag Sharma secured second rank and Mr. Don
Charles Fernandes secured third rank in the BHM examinations
conducted by Mangalore University in April-May 2011

From this academic year the college has been using the services of a
qualified counsellor to help students in their academic as well as overall

various hotels, companies and hospitality and service related organizations.

Developmental activities undertaken by the training and placement cell:
Quality Life Skills classes were started with the aim of preparing students to
face job Interviews, improve communication and interpersonal Skills. The
classes are conducted by our Faculty Mr Savio D’souza and Mr Amar Cherian.

Our non-teaching staff- Mr. Yatheesh Shetty, Mr. Chetan and Mr.
Harish attended a seminar on “Computer Skills and Management” on
15th October 2011.
Our librarian Mr. Yatheesh Shetty attended the 57th ‘All India Library
Conference’ conducted by the Indian Library Association from 23rd to
25th February 2012.
39. Best practices of the Institution :
Elixir club’s oath taking ceremony was held on 25th June 2011, the
newly elected board members understand the importance of the positions
they are holding and through the practice of oath taking, the members
make a solemn promise which they are committed to perform in the near
future. Ever since the inception of the club, this practice is inculcated to
make the club members aware, that the board members of the club hold a
responsible position.
The Rotaract Club’s Swearing in Ceremony of the office bearers was
conducted on the 09th July 2011. The activities of the Club create societal
awareness among the students.
The college regularly celebrates various traditional festivals in the
campus to create the awareness of oneness and bonding. Janamasthmi
was celebrated on 23rd of August 2011, Onam on 3rd September 2011,
and Christmas on 21st December 2011.
Theme dinner, ‘Heaven and Hell’, was organised by the students of 5th
semester BHM on 27th of August 2011. The event has helped the
students to develop as team leaders for various departments, created
awareness of various food habits of people in Mangalore, the importance
of proper planning and co-ordination etc. This was one of the ways to
involve students in the college activities. This activity empowered
students to take their own decisions which indirectly helped them to gain
vital experience and skills.

The Alumni of the college are encouraged to participate in the annual
alumni meet. This year the alumni meet was held on 27 th August
2011.The alumni interacted with the students, shared their experiences
and provided information on current trends in the hospitality industry.
ENIGMA, a state level intercollegiate competition for PUC students,
was conducted on 29th August 2011 by the 3rd semester students. The
event helped the students in improving their organising skills and
extending their practical knowledge beyond curriculum.
National level intercollegiate competition, Rendezvous -2011 for Under
Graduate students, was organised by second year students on 30th August
2011. It is one of the signature activities of the college and it encourages
the overall development of the student. Students learn to excel in their
field of specialization as well as learn to act as managers, supervisors
and team members.
With the objective of providing our students knowledge beyond the
syllabus and experience the technicalities involved in the process of
making chocolate, students were taken for industrial visit to Campco
Chocolate Factory, Puttur on 17th December 2011.
The Institute believes in sharing with the less fortunate which garners
goodwill. The Rotaract Club celebrated Christmas with the children at
Samvedna Home for HIV +ve children on 21st December 2011.
Continuing with the trend of taking our students for Industrial visits, a
visit to Nandini milk dairy was organized by the college on 13th January
2012. The visit facilitated better understanding of milk and milk
processing systems.
Awareness on coffee beans processing and Orange products preservation
was given to students by their visit to Naksha Coffee Curing Industry,
SLN coffee processing unit, Kushalnagar, and Kodagu Orange Grower
Co-orperative society, Gonikoppa on 13th January 2012

From the inception of the event 16 years ago, Aroma the annual food
festival has been an integral part of the academic calendar. This event
has become a landmark of Sarosh Institute of Hotel Administration and
this year students from the final year conducted Aroma on 11th of
February 2012.
To initiate entrepreneurial practice, the students are trained through the
various clubs in the college namely- the Elixir club, Gastronomy club
and Rotaract club to prepare and sell snacks and beverages in the college
cafeteria. The members of entrepreneur club also run the consumer cell
which provides stationary and snacks to the students and staff members.
The college motivates students to participate in extracurricular activities
too; the Elixir club has initiated compilation of videos of trade skills
such as napkin folding, cocktail making etc in CD format for easy
learning. This year they came up with the compilation of Christmas
songs which were sold in the form of ACD titled ‘Away in a Manger’.
The weekly newsletter of elixir club ‘The Tavern’ enables the students to
update their knowledge in Food and Beverage Service.
Elixir club members displayed cartoons on the notice board which
facilitated the students to show the lighter side of the subjects which
helps in a way to reduce academic stress.
Students were able to showcase their creativity in the form of writing
through ‘The Decanter’, The Elixir Club’s news letter and ‘Wine Down-
2’, The Elixir Club’s annual magazine.
The Alumni of the college are encouraged to participate in the Annual
Alumni Meet. The alumni interacted with the current batch of students
and conducted seminars highlighting their experiences and challenges
which are faced in the hospitality industry.

the student members of the club to be part of an extracurricular activity.
The annual inter house cultural competition-Catalyst is conducted to
help the students to bring out their professional as well as extracurricular
talents. Students are awarded prizes to encourage and motivate their
spirit of participation in various co-curricular and extracurricular
activities during the annual day celebrations.

Student Development:
Various events are organised by the students which enables them to work
as a team. Co-ordination and team spirit is built up through such type of
activities. Students are able to acquire more knowledge and
understanding about the subject through such activities.
To initiate entrepreneurial practice, the students are trained through the
various clubs in the college namely- the Elixir Club, Gastronomy Club
and Rotaract Club to prepare and sell snacks and beverages in the college
cafeteria. The members of Entrepreneur Club also run the Consumer Cell
which provides stationary and snacks to the students and staff members.
The Elixir club celebrated its first anniversary on 16th July 2011. The
completion of one year of existence of the Elixir Club clearly depicts the
interest of the club members. Through various activities of the club, the

members have gained confidence and commitment, making it one of the
most active club in the college.
RETRATO-The Painting exhibition was held on 16th July 2011, it
enabled the participants to bring out their talent in painting.
‘La Corona’- mocktail was dedicated to our Ex- Principal Ms.Matharani
Mathias, on 30th July 2011.
An Inter house quiz competition “Barista 2011” was organized by the
Elixir Club on the 6th of August 2011. Student members of the club were
able to learn how to organise an event and the intricacies of working as a
team. Co-ordination, team spirit and acquiring of knowledge about the
subject were obtained through such activities.
Keeping in mind the development of trade based skills in our students,
the Gastronomy club organized ‘Gateau Guerre’- an inter house cake
decorating Competition on 6th August 2011, where students displayed
their various creative skills in decorating and presenting the cakes
The Gastronomy Club initiated and conducted an inter house quiz
competition with the objective of keeping our students updated with
recent developments in the field of food production and improving their
knowledge in the same. It was conducted on the 13th of August 2011.
‘Tirangaa’ event was organised by Elixir club on 15th of August 2011 to
familiarize students with the flags of early India. This event created
awareness among the students about the ancient Indian flags through
creative Mocktail Making.
The ‘Concours De Cuisine’, an inter college cookery competition was
organized by the club on 20th August 2011, it helped the students of our
college in developing their organizing and managerial skills.
‘The World of Mocktails’ was conducted on 29th August 2011. The
Elixirites were given a chance to unleash their creativity and set a counter
in accordance to that. The students learnt the recipes and history of

mocktails and presented them in the traditional manner. This activity
enabled the Elixirites to improve their communication skills, organising
skills, knowledge and creativity.
Enigma, a state level intercollegiate competition was conducted on 29th
August 2011, One of the signature activities of the college to encourage
the overall development of a student is conducting events where students
learn to excel in their field of specialization as well as become managers.
Rendezvous -2011, a national level intercollegiate competition was

‘Vencedor’-the Elixir Club’s valedictory function was held on 3rd
September 2011. The Students were awarded for their contribution in
developing and diversifying the activities of the club.
‘It’s Cocktail’ was organised by the Elixir club on 17th December 2011
This was a way to provide a learning experience outside the classroom.

‘Santa is making cocktail’, a cocktail making competition was conducted
on 23rd of December 2011, it enabled the participants to understand the
concept of salesmanship which is a prerequisite for a Food and Beverage
sales staff.

On 12th January 2012 our student, Mr. Ryan Savio D’souza conducted a
class on making cocktails using Molecular Mixology. This created
awareness among the students about the latest trends in Bar Mixology.
He educated the audience about this current trend in Food and Beverage
preparation, and answered their queries.
‘I’m an Indian’, an essay writing competition was held on 31 st of January
2012 to help the students to improve their composition skills. It enabled
them to focus and ponder over thoughts that would enable them to be
responsible citizens.
‘Pranam - a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’ was held on 31st January 2012.
A power point presentation on the life and deeds of Mahatma Gandhi was
shown to all the students and staff. The students were inspired by the
slideshow and the importance of having the right character, importance of
non-violence and noble deeds.
Through the music band, Rhapsody, the band members are provided a
platform to improve their music skills.
The Elixir’s X’mas card making competition encouraged creativity and
enabled the students to understand how to work within the allocated
budget.
Students gain knowledge about different beverages through the
information provided in ‘The Tavern’-The weekly data sheet of ‘The
Elixir’ Club.
Students are encouraged to attend seminars with assistance from the
Institute. Two of our students attended National Level Seminar on
‘Healthy, Economic and Convenience Foods’ at the University Of
Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. The seminar gave an overview and
introduction of various technologies, products, scope and opportunities in
food industry.,

With the objective of providing our students, knowledge beyond the
syllabus and experience the technicalities involved in the process of
making chocolates, students were taken for industrial visits to Campco
Chocolate Factory, Puttur.
Students are encouraged to participate and compete in events organized
by other colleges. Our students were sponsored to participate in the
National Level Inter Collegiate Fest at Rizvi College, Mumbai
To develop the talents of our students in various extracurricular activities
and also to provide them an opportunity for exhibiting various creative
talents the college organizes the Annual Cultural Day – ‘Catalyst’, with
various literary and subject related competitions.
With the objective of providing our students knowledge beyond the
syllabus, and experience the technicalities involved in the process of
making milk products, storing and packaging of milk, the students were
taken to Nandini Milk dairy, Kulshekar
To encourage students to develop entrepreneurial skills, students were
encouraged to prepare and sell freshly prepared dishes. Such activities are
organized by the Rotaract, Gastronomy and Elixir club and the revenue so
generated, is credited to the respective clubs.
Educative and entertaining movies are shown on a regular basis each
week. This helps to enhance their knowledge and create a conducive
atmosphere in the Institute.
An Intercollegiate Food and Beverage Service quiz competition,
Ganadores was conducted by Elixir Club on 17th December 2011.
The publishing of the Elixir club’s monthly newsletter, ‘The Decanter’
was carried on customary basis by the members of the club.
The annual food festival, ‘Aroma’ was organized by the final year
students and conducted on 11th of February 2012. The students are
encouraged and supported to put into practice the academic knowledge

gained in the classrooms. Students from all the semesters were involved
in setting up and running their individual food stalls.
The Elixir Club’s Valedictory Function, ‘Vencedor’ was held on 2nd
March 2012. Students were awarded for their contributions in developing
and diversifying the activities of the club, thus motivating them to initiate
and participate in more activities of the club.
The elixir club’s music band ‘Rhapsody’ released its music album titled
‘Forever’. This in turn motivated the band members to take more
initiatives in the field of music as an avenue for relaxation.
The Industrial visit to ‘Grover’s vineyard’, Bangalore was conducted with
the objective of providing our students, knowledge beyond the syllabus
and experience the technicalities involved in the process of making wine.
During the alumni meet, the alumni interacted and conducted seminars,
highlighting the challenges in the hospitality industry and shared their
experiences.
Student mentoring:
A faculty mentor is assigned to each student in order to provide
individual attention to each student. These mentors counsel the students
and instill self confidence in them, so as to enable them to cope with
academic and non-academic challenges.
The parents of our students are updated with the performance of their
wards on a regular basis. A report of the internal marks and attendance is
sent to the parents with a note from the mentor highlighting the general
behaviour and performance of the student.
Student- Mentor meetings are conducted at least once every month,
mentors meet the student and discuss about their overall performance and
suggest ways for improvement.

A professional counsellor has been arranged by the college, who visits
the campus once a week to counsel the students
Data of all the students are collected by the mentors and recorded for

Keeping in mind our concern for the environment and providing an eco-
friendly atmosphere, the students have been planting saplings in the
campus.
Staff achievement :
Ms. Basavarajeswari. D has enrolled for the PhD programme of
Mangalore University, in the Department of Commerce.
In the National conference on ‘Aviation & Tourism Opportunities,
Challenges & New Direction’, held on 21st and 22nd August 2011 which
was conducted by the Tourism Department of Mangalore University, our
Faculty member Mr. Terence Rodrigues was one of the resource persons
and spoke on the topic ‘An Analytical Study On The Critical Issues
Facing Tourist Satisfaction in Indian Aviation And Tourist Sites, with
special reference to the development in Mangalore, Karnataka State’.

Student recreation:
The Elixir Club’s Music band Rhapsody motivates musically inclined
students to follow their interest in the field of music and it also enables
them to overcome the stress of studies.
Students use the games room for playing indoor games like chess and
carom. Inter class football, cricket and volley ball matches are organised
for the students on regular basis.
Cultural, sports and other extra curricular activities are conducted for
student development and recreation.
Social awareness:
A painting exhibition was conducted, as a means to create awareness
among students regarding the ill effects of smoking and alcoholism.
AIDS awareness cartoons were displayed on the notice board by the Elixir
club on 3rd December 2011. These cartoons helped to generate awareness
about HIV, and spread of AIDS.

Awareness about Indian culture / festivals:
The college regularly celebrates various traditional festivals in the campus
to create the awareness of oneness and bonding. The following festivals
were celebrated, Janamasthmi on 23rd of August 201. Onam, the harvest
festival of Kerala was celebrated on 3rd September 2011 in the College
campus. To encourage team spirit & familiarize our students with the
Indian culture & festivals, the college organized community lunch
comprising of traditional Kerala cuisine, prepared and served by the
students; Flower Carpet Competition, Pookallam, games like tug of war
were also organized. Christmas was celebrated on 21st December 2011
Navidad- Christmas tree making competition was conducted on 23rd
December 2011 by elixir club. The students were given a chance to
understand the importance and meaning of Christmas.
The Elixir club prepared X’mas cards to add colour to the X’mas
celebrations.
The event, ‘Santa is making cocktail’ was exclusively organized for the
Elixirites during Christmas season.
Stella Splendens- Christmas Star and crib making competition was
conducted by Rotaract club on 21st December 2011. As part of Christmas
celebrations, a competition was organized which encouraged the
involvement of students.
