Ouro Preto [alternative] Outside of the historic centre, there are many interesting options for those with free time or who want to get to know the places that very few tourists visit. Since they are rather distant, it’s necessary to either go by car or take a taxi.

In order to better organize the visit, it’s a good idea to have a notion of where the attractions are located: the Capela Padre

Faria and the Igreja São Miguel e Almas are in opposite directions – Padre Faria e Cabeças neighbourhood – east and

west respectively. The Casa dos Inconfidentes is located in the southern region of the city, and the Buddhist Monastery –

Monastério Zen Pico de Raios– in the north. Casa dos Inconfidentes House of Inconfidentes Isolated in the city’s hills, is where the Casa dos Inconfidentes is located. The property was the residence of the conspirator Francisco de Paula Freire de Andrade. Among the objects in the house’s collection are pieces of furniture from the 18th Century. The house was restored and re-opened in 2010. Capela do Padre Faria (Paróquia Antônio Dias) Padre Faria Chapel (Antônio Dias Parish) One of the most beautiful chapels in Ouro Preto, in the front churchyard a large three-armed cross was erected. The rich golden interior contrasts greatly with the simplicity of the façade. Address: rua Padre Faria – Padre Faria – (31) 3551-5047 Open Hours: Tuesdays – Sundays, from 8:30 to 16:30

Capela dos Santíssimos Corações de Jesus, São Miguel e Almas (Paróquia do Pilar) Santíssimos Corações de Jesus, São Miguel e Almas Chapel (Parish of Pillar) This chapel simultaneously unites three invocations: Santíssimos Corações de Jesus, Mary and Joseph; Bom Jesus de Matosinhos and São Miguel e Almas. At the entrance, there is a beautiful Aleijadinho sculpture of the archangel Saint Micheal and a purgatory, between the souls of the purgatory – a friar and an undressed woman, perhaps a representation of lust. On the inside, there are two screens attributed to the master Athaíde – The Last Supper and the Crucifixion. Mosteiro Zen Pico de Raios – budista Zen Pico de Raios Monastery – Buddhist Founded in 1984 by the máster Tokuda Igarashu. It is located at a water divider between the rio Doce and rio das Velhas valleys, in the neighbourhood São Sebastião. The temple maintains the daily practice of zazen meditation. Retreats, Shiatsu courses, acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and medicinal culinary are all offered. It is a branch of the Soto Zen of Brazil Society. Few attractions open on Mondays. In the months of January and July some churches open on Monday.

Wear comfortable shoes, these sites have many steep streets and

uneven pavements.
