Purso Oy manufactures extruded aluminium profiles for various industries around the world. The company is in control of the entire processing chain from the pretreatment of raw materials to a highly processed, finished end product. The Purso Oy smelting plant processes recycled aluminium and thus produces half of the raw material used in the extrusion plant. Purso’s strong expertise includes profile extrusion, machining, anodizing and powder coat-ing. The light metal workshop manufactures aluminium products into com-plete components in accordance with the customer’s requests. The products are part of your world – on land, in water and in the air.

The story of Purso Oy began out of Suojapinta Oy, a construction company established in 1959, which later began anodizing in 1960. In the beginning the company employed only five people with the aim of building a good and reliable company. Today Purso Oy is known as an international company, with facilities in both Siuro and Ikaalinen employing a total of over 200 people. The company’s goal is to continue strengthening its position as one of the leading aluminium downstream operators. The operations are based on individual service, strong expertise, uncompromising and certified quality with the flex-ibility of a family company. The principles of sustainable development are also an integral part of Purso’s daily operations.

Environmentally friendly aluminium

Aluminium is the third most common chemical element in the world. As much as 8 percent of the Earth’s crust is aluminium. Aluminium is industrially extracted from bauxite. The world’s bauxite resources are limitless and actually increase with the corrosion of bedrock.

A steel bar with the same strength properties as an aluminium bar is about twice as heavy. The light weight and strength of aluminium results in significant savings in the manufacturing of cars, trains, ships and airplanes. Together with oxygen, aluminium forms a firm oxide layer that prevents further oxidization. Corrosion-resistance can be further improved with anodization which also gives aluminium

an attractive surface. Therefore, aluminium structures have a long lifespan and a minimal need for maintenance. Aluminium’s capacity to conduct heat is especially utilized in the electronics industry. Aluminium also conducts electricity well and this conductivity can be further improved with special alloys. An aluminium wire weighs half the weight of a copper wire with the same conductivity.

Aluminium is a valuable material which can easily be sorted from other metals, recycled and reused. Recycled aluminium takes only 5 % of the energy which is needed to melt primary aluminium. A significant portion of the raw material used by Purso comes from the company’s modern smelting plant in Ikaalinen.

Standard profilesPurso’s standard profile selection includes over 1,000 different aluminium products – tubes, flat bars, L-profiles, bars etc. These profiles will give you excellent opportunities to implement your solutions – lightly and reliably.

Customized profilesAluminium can be used for various purposes, so feel free to be creative. A successful project begins by planning with the customer. The aim is to provide the customer with the best pos-sible profile in terms of extrusion technology at the most affordable price. The extrusion lines

can produce profiles of up to 16 meters long and over 300 millimeters wide. The profiles can also be processed in various ways with the help of modern technology.

From planning to product Component design combines the customer’s need with Purso’s experience and ex-pertise. After the optimal solution has been found, it is time for the production stage. Bending, machining, welding, cutting, punching, surface treatment and assembling can all be done in the production stage. In order to guarantee full service, Purso has built an extensive and skilled subcontracting network to support its own expertise.

Style and durability from finishingThe final touches to a component are done with a surface treat-ment that gives aluminium an attractive and durable surface.

Powder coating provides an excellent mechanical and chemical resistance and offers numerous color options. The coating is preceded by an environmentally friendly, chrome-free pretreatment. The aluminium specifications affect the choice of powder type to be used to coat the product. For example, polyester powder is suitable for purposes that require weather-resistant products that do not turn yellow in UV light and heat.

Anodization is a surface treatment method typically used for aluminium. The oxide layer creates a very hard, durable and appealing surface. Purso has three different anodization methods for indoor and outdoor use. Please find the color options on the left.

2. Raw materialAluminium is extracted from bauxite. A significant amount of Purso’s aluminium is recycled metal from its smelting plant.

3. ExtrusionThree extrusion lines extrude the billets into profiles for further processing.

4. CuttingA 3 to 16 meter long profile is cut to an appropriate size.

5. ProcessingThe CNC high speed machine can be used to cut, punch, mill and thread profiles up to 10 meters long in length.

6. WeldingParts are welded together using either the TIG or MIG welding method.

7. BendingThe profile can be bent exactly to the required shape by a programmable bending machine.

8. Surface treatmentPowder coating and anodization gives the profile a durable and attractive surface.

9. AssemblyThe profiles are assembled into a required combination.

10. LogisticsThe logistics as well as the entire production chain works promptly, while respecting the environment.
