(St. Gregory the Nazianzus)

For me, the words of God become like honey;

I cry out for the sake of knowledge;

and raise my voice for the sake of wisdom.

1. Whatever Written4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort

of the Scriptures might have hope. 5 Now may the God of patience and

comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to

Christ Jesus, 6 that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Rom 15:4-6

What is heresy

The term heresy is from Greek αἵρεσις originally meant "choice" or "thing chosen"

2. Selective reading

8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. Jas 2:8-13

3. St Paul non-compromise

3 Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! For you sit to judge me according to the law, and

do you command me to be struck contrary to the law?”4 And those who

stood by said, “Do you revile God’s high priest?” 5 Then Paul said, “I did not know, brethren, that he was the high priest; for it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of

your people.’” Acts 23:3-5

The word, the Word, the Word

18 “Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 20 And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, Deut 11:18-20

Heaven on earth that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above

the earth. Deut 11:21

11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and

ministered to Him. Matt 4:11

St AugustineThe Scriptures are in fact, in

any passage you care to choose, singing of Christ,

provided we have ears that are capable of picking out the tune.  The Lord opened the

minds of the Apostles so that they understood the

Scriptures.  That he will open our minds too is our prayer.
