2016wasayearofgrowththatwascharacterizedbyrebrandingfrom“OutOnBayStreet”to“StartProud”toemphasizeourfocusonstudents,aswellasexecuteournationalexpansioninitiativesandintroduceCanada’sfirstLGBTQA+entrepreneurshipandtechsummit,VentureOut.
Incredibly,thisgrowthdidnotcomeattheexpenseofwhatwehavealwaysdonebest,yearoveryear.OurOutOnBayStreetAnnualConferenceonceagainsoldoutwithover400inattendanceatthegrandgaladinner.OurkeynotespeakersweretransactivistJacobTobia,entrepreneurandspeakerCorrineSandler,andEVPofEnglishServicesatCBCHeatherConway.Wehostedandproducedover25eventsacrossToronto,OttawaandMontrealthatattractedhundredsofstudentswhonetworkedandlistenedtoinsightfulpaneldiscussionsonLGBTQA+issues,businessandlaw.
OurLeadersToBeProudOfawardsrecognizedsevenoutstandingoutorallyexecutiveleaders,includingMaryLouMaher,PartnerinChargeGTAAuditandChiefInclusionOfficeratKPMGandtherecipientoftheLifetimeAchievementAward.Allsevenexecutiveshavedemonstratedsignificantprofessionalsuccesswhilebringingtheirtrueselvestoworkandinspiringawholegenerationofstudentstostriveforexcellence.

WHYCHANGETHENAME?In2016,OutOnBayStreetenteredits10thyearofoperation.Wewantedtofindnewwaystoimproveourimpactandadvanceourservicemandate.OnegoalwastoexpandthegeographicscopeofouroperationsandimproveournationalreachbeyondtheGTA.
OnelimitationtothisgoalwastheOutOnBayStreetbranditselfbecauseitwasinherentlyToronto-focusedandwouldlikelyfailtoresonatewiththesameeffectinothercities.
Inaddition,a2015surveyofourstudentsandsponsorsrevealedthattheOutOnBayStreetnamewas:1. Toronto-focused;2. Didnotreflectthenationalpresenceoftheorganization;and3. Didnotreflectthegoalofexpandingbeyondbusinessandlaw.
That’swhyweembarkedonajourneytodevelopanewidentitythatbetterreflectedournationalaspirationsandourgoaltoexpandintomorediversecareerspaces.
WHATDOESTHESTARTPROUDLOGOMEAN?TheStartProudlogoissimpleyetmeaningful.Throughthefontandcolours,wemaintainedthelegacyoftheOOBSlogo.Thestepssignifyanewstartandspeaksdirectlytoourorganization’sgoaloffacilitatingthebeginningofourstudents’careers,andthatwearetheretosupportthemeverystepoftheway.

SPONSORSHIPDISCLAIMERThetermsfoundwithinthisAgreementshallterminateonedaypriortoOutOnBayStreet’sAnnualGeneralMeeting(AGM)heldinthecalendaryearfollowingthedateoftheAgreement,unlessterminatedsoonerbyeitherparty.SponsorshipdollarspaidtoOutOnBayStreetarenon-refundable.Sponsorshipdollarsshallbepaidwithin30daysofthedateofinvoicefromOutonBayStreet.Liabilitytopaysponsorshipdollars,includingtimingofpayment,isafundamentaltermofthisagreement.Youshallhavetherighttodemandremovalofyourbusinessname,trademark,and/orbrandingasapplicablefromanyandallpromotionalorothermaterialsrelatingtoOutOnBayStreetupon30dayswrittennotice.
Exceptasotherwiseagreedinwritinginadvance,OutOnBayStreetissolelyresponsiblefortheadministration,andexecutionofalloperationsreferencedwithinthisAgreement.Eachpartyagreesthattheotherparty,itscontractedaffiliates,affiliates,agentsandsubcontractors,andeachoftheirofficers,directors,partners,principalsorotherpersonnelshallnotbeliableforanyactions,damages,claims,liabilities,costs,expenses,orlossesinanywayarisingoutoforrelatingtothisAgreementforanaggregateamountinexcessofthesponsorshipdollarsfortheapplicableyearinwhichtheclaimarose.Innoeventshalleitherparty,itscontractedaffiliates,affiliates,agentsorsubcontractors,oranyoftheirofficers,directors,partners,principalsorotherpersonnelbeliableforconsequential,special,indirect,incidental,punitiveorexemplarydamages,costs,expenses,orlosses(including,withoutlimitation,lostprofitsandopportunitycosts)againsttheotherpartybyanythirdparty,norshalltheybeliableforanyclaimordemandagainsttheotherpartybyanythirdparty.Theprovisionsofthissectionshallapplyregardlessoftheformofaction,damage,claim,liability,cost,expense,orloss,whetherincontract,statute,tort(including,withoutlimitation,negligence),orotherwise.Neitherpartyshallapplyfor,norotherwiserequest,anyawardofpunitiveorexemplarydamagesagainsttheotherparty.
OutOnBayStreetisavolunteer-basedorganizationanddoesnotpayasalary,stipendorothermonetaryawardtoanyofitspersonnel.SponsorshipdollarswillbeusedtocovertheoperatingcostsofOutOnBayStreet’seventsandinitiatives,aswellasOutOnBayStreet’soperatingexpenses,whichmayincludecapitalandnon-capitalexpendituresatOutOnBayStreet’ssolediscretion.ResidualsponsorshipdollarsmaybeusedtofundOutOnBayStreet’seventsandinitiativesinfutureyears.
ThisAgreement,includinganyexhibitsannexedheretoandmadeaparthereof,constitutestheentireagreementbetweenthepartiesheretowithrespecttothesubjectmatterhereofandsupersedesallotheroralorwrittenrepresentationsoragreementsrelatingtothesubjectmatterhereof,andmaynotbeamendedexceptinwriting,executedbythepartieshereto.
ThisAgreementshallbegovernedby,andconstruedinaccordancewith,thelawsoftheProvinceofOntarioand,totheextentnecessaryandapplicable,thelawsofCanada.
IfanyprovisionorpartofthisAgreementisfoundbyacourtofcompetentjurisdictiontobeinvalidorunenforceableinwholeorinpart,suchinvalidityorunenforceabilityshallnotaffecttheotherprovisions,butsuchinvalidorunenforceableprovisionshallbedeemedmodifiedtotheextentnecessarytorenderitenforceable,preservingtothefullestextentpermissibletheintentofthepartiessetforthinthisAgreement.Totheextentnecessary,invalidorunenforceableprovisionsinthisAgreementthatcannotbesoconstruedshallbeseveredfromtheAgreement.
