Dear Readers,Greetings from MalaysiaSAFE!Malaysia’s budget for 2018 was recently announced, with the government
laying out plans to tackle rising living costs and to contain our country’s fi scal defi cit. The proposed budget stands at RM 280.25 billion, with the bulk of it allocated for operating expenditure and development. From this, the country’s security forces will receive a signifi cant funding as the government maintains its provision on national security.
Besides announcing that the Armed Forces (ATM) will have an allocation of RM 14 billion, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will have nearly RM 9 billion, up from RM 8.7 billion the previous year, and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) will have an allocation of RM 900 million. This, as the government looks to enhance their regional Digital Counter-Messaging Communications Centre to counter the extremist ideology such as ISIS and also for upgrading PDRM’s communications system and ICT infrastructure.
The national budget on improving safety at the borders and for the enhancement of public order comes timely as just a month earlier, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed called for authorities to expand the use of CCTVs in public areas by including facial recognition softwares to boost security. At the moment, CCTV systems are not widely used and are still recording images in a passive way. The Home Ministry wants CCTVs placed at all public transportation systems to have facial recognition facilities and to be linked to police control centres, after looking at CCTV equipment modules used in Britain, China and Australia.
However, installing facial recognition CCTVs would require a new law to regulate its use before it can be expanded in the country. This becomes crucial as the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA) came into force in 2013, and imposes certain obligations on ‘data users’ in dealing with all personal data processed by them. According to the Home Ministry, a bill would be tabled next year and we hope the country will get to utilize the facial recognition technology soon as a means of preventing crime and analyzing recorded footages for evidence.
The region’s leading security, fi re and safety event – IFSEC Southeast Asia had a successful show last September, with noticeable developments in smart city and public transportation safety solutions. We will certainly miss returning to the event next year, as the 6th edition will take place in Bangkok, Thailand. We are looking forward to newer technologies from the industry next year, as this year closes on a high with technologies such as Deep Learning AI and Ultra High Defi nition surveillance.
Team MalaysiaSAFE would like to take this opportunity to congratulate YBrs Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun on his appointment as the new Inspector General of Police. We wish him all the best on the job and may he have success in the challenges ahead. We would also like to wish all our readers a Happy New Year, and we hope to be back next year with brand new exciting editorials and contents.
Stay Safe & Enjoy Reading!

regional roundup
On 6-8 September 2017, the region’s
leading security, fire and safety
event took place at the Kuala Lumpur
Convention Centre, Malaysia. The three-
day event was the fifth edition of IFSEC
Southeast Asia, which is well-known as
a must-attend event for industry players
all over ASEAN.
As the platform where industry
players and buyers could discover the
latest products in security, fire and
safety, the organiser, United Business
Media, succeeds in expanding its prod-
uct and exhibition category, and the
most noticeable development was the
inclusion of drones. IFSEC Southeast
Asia 2017 was the first event to have
dedicated a fly zone for drones inside
the exhibition hall of KL Convention
Centre. The drone zone attracted visi-
tors to witness the manoeuvrability and
advantages of drones, as applicable to
the industry.
The fifth edition comprised 109
companies representing more than 350
world-leading brands, giving the visi-
tors an ample number of options. Major
brands such as Entrypass Corporation
Sdn Bhd, Seagate, Guangdong
Anjubao Digital Technology
Co., Ltd, Beijing Landwell
Electron Technology Co., Ltd,
ComNet, Dahua, Nemtek (Pty)
Ltd, Noctura Ltd, InfoWatch
Group and others took the op-
portunity to present on the
show floor and showcase their
latest products and technolo-
gies. With more than 6,300
total attendees mainly from
ASEAN countries, this was the
best event for international brands to
meet directly with specifiers, installers,
distributors and end-users, all under one
roof.
In addition to the exhibition, IFSEC
Southeast Asia provides the best knowl-
edge centre for the visitors. With daily
free conferences taking place on the
show floor, visitors had the opportunity
to listen to industry experts on the latest
industry updates. The line-up of speak-
ers included Natalya Kaspersky, Presi-
dent of Infowatch Group, Mr. James Bit-
ting from Equinox Innovative System,
Mr. Bryan Liu from DJI Enterprise and
other experts who provided the
best insights on various subjects
including cybersecurity, drones
and other related topics.
IFSEC Southeast Asia was
supported by Malaysia’s Min-
istry of Home Affairs, Royal
Malaysia Police, CyberSecurity
Malaysia, Asian Professional
Security Association (APSA)
Malaysia Chapter, British Se-
curity Industry Association
(BSIA) and ASIS International
(Malaysia Chapter), Chartered Interna-
tional Institute of Security and Crisis
Management and Malaysia UAV Devel-
opments Association. Having authorities
and associations supporting the event
strengthened IFSEC Southeast Asia’s
position as the leading security, fire and
safety event in the region.
Moving forward, the 6th edition of
IFSEC Southeast Asia will take place
in Bangkok from 14 to 16 November
2018. The decision to alternate the edi-
tions between Kuala Lumpur and Bang-
kok is due to the strong support received
from the Royal Thai Police and Thailand
Convention and Exhibition Bureau. Of-
fering business-leisure experiences for
both exhibitors and visitors, Thailand
is ramping up its investments in the ef-
fort of gearing the economy to focus on
stability, infrastructure, education and
entrepreneurship by launching smart
city projects and tapping into Internet
of Things (IoT), the cloud, big data and
analytics to nurture smart, secure and
connected communications.

regional roundup
Until now, level of detail has been
the key quality parameter for sur-
veillance cameras, as clear images at all
times was the most important feature
for high security. True, security person-
nel must see all relevant information in
great detail to react quickly and take ap-
propriate action, but what if a moving
object leaves the camera’s field of view?
The AUTODOME IP family of pan,
tilt and zoom (PTZ) cameras is the an-
swer. These enable users manually to
keep track of persons of interest as they
move – even at speed, far beyond a fixed
camera’s field of view.
This illustrates how the new AUTO-
DOME IP cameras are improving video
security. What opens a new chapter in
the usage of video cameras is their built-
in video analytics as a standard. The new
AUTODOME IP cameras from Bosch
now add metadata to all captured video
images. This data can be used to improve
security by automatically alerting users
once pre-defined criteria are met or for
other uses beyond security. For example:
enforcing traffic regulations, enforcing
no-parking zones, detecting vehicles
driving the wrong way and delivering
occupancy data (the number of vehicles
entering or leaving a parking garage) for
smart, more efficient parking.
Their built-in Essential
Video Analytics enable the
AUTODOME cameras to un-
derstand what they are seeing.
They generate metadata to
add sense and structure to the
video footage, instead of just
capturing and storing video
images. They not only detect
objects, they deliver associat-
ed data like size, speed, shape,
direction, and color. They
automatically distinguish be-
tween the object types such as
person, car, bike, motorcycle
or truck.
Because it’s possible to set certain
alarm rules, such as someone approach-
ing or climbing over a fence, security
personnel are alerted the moment the
alarm rule is triggered. It can even be
configured to recognize changes in
speed (running), shape (crouching) or
aspect ratio (falling). When searching
for evidence, metadata in combination
with the forensic search functionality al-
lows instant retrieval of relevant footage
from hours of stored video.
The AUTODOME IP 4000i is de-
signed for indoor use. Its discreet hous-
ing blends quietly into interior décor. It
comes with full pan and tilt control, plus
12x optical zoom that identifies fast-
moving objects in 1080p resolution at
distances of up to 88 meters at 60 frames
per second.
For indoor and outdoor applications
with a larger surveillance area, there is
the AUTODOME IP 5000i. With its 30x
optical zoom, 1080p resolution and 60
frames per second video, fast-moving
objects can be identified at up to 190 me-
ters during daytime, even in challenging
lighting conditions.
For larger distances and complete
darkness, there is the AUTODOME IP
5000i IR. It performs identically to the
AUTODOME IP 5000i during daytime,
and at night identifies objects at up to
150 meters. Its built-in, infrared beam
ensures optimum illumination regard-
less of zoom level.
All AUTODOME IP 4000i and
5000i cameras from Bosch offer Intel-
ligent Dynamic Noise Reduction and
Intelligent Streaming, now also com-
bined with H.265 video compression.
Depending on the content of the scene,
this reduces bitrate by up to 80 percent.
It helps to keep video data manageable,
while substantially reducing network
strain, storage requirements and costs,
without compromising functionality and
image quality.

Dahua Technology, a leading solu-
tion provider in the global video
surveillance industry presented a variety
of safe city solutions recently at the 5th
edition of IFSEC Southeast Asia 2017.
During the exhibition, Dahua showed a
comprehensive portfolio of products and
solutions which included Smart Parking
Management, Integrated Security Solu-
tions for Public Bus, Residential, Bank-
ing & Finance and the company’s indus-
try leading HDCVI 4.0 technology.
Developed by Dahua, HDCVI is the
world’s leading HD-over-coax technol-
ogy that can simultaneously transmit
audio, video, power and control signals
through an existing analogue infrastruc-
ture. Now updated to DHCVI 4.0, their
end-to-end product line includes 4K Ul-
tra HD front-end cameras and a full range
back-end storage products. The best part
about Dahua’s patented technology is that
their HCVR is backward compatible with
existing HDCVI cameras, which means
users’ investments will be protected
in the technology upgrade process.”
“This year we brought in our
new 360-degrees panoramic cam-
era with anti-corrosion casing for
use in harsh environments. Also,
we are showcasing our 8 megapixel
camera over coax from our HDCVI
4.0 range, the fi rst of its kind in the
world. And new to the market, is
our solar powered cameras which
can run from 3 to 7 days continu-
ously even during rainy days. The
system solves the problem of not
having network or power in any given
area, because it can transmit video sig-
nals over its wireless transmitter,” said
Ms. Cheryl Zhou, Channel Manager for
Malaysia at Dahua Technology.
Furthermore, Cheryl explained the
highlights of Dahua’s Safe City Solu-
tions such as facial recognition and
number plate recognition have already
been widely used in big cities such as
Beijing and Hangzhou in China with
excellent results. Therefore, she believes
this technology can be robustly used in
Malaysia, “It is good to meet and talk
with our long term friends and new cus-
tomers here because we can receive their
feedback on our new products and tech-
nology,” added Cheryl.

ducing risk and improving uptime.
“As the primary gateway to Malay-
sia, KLIA is a showcase of our ambi-
tion to grow as a nation,” said Datuk
Badlisham Ghazali, Managing Director,
Malaysia Airports, “As we move closer
to becoming a developed country, our
airports should reflect high standards of
safety and efficiency. Our collaboration
with Honeywell is in line with our com-
mitment to maintain safety, improve ef-
ficiency, drive performance, and reduce

Airfield ground lighting, as a visual
aid for landing and taxiing, is an im-
portant element of an airport’s infra-
structure. Lighting installations for ap-
proaches, runways, taxiways, and aprons
enable pilots to navigate the complex
surface layouts of modern airports in all
conditions, from taxiing and takeoff to
landing. Honeywell’s computerized con-
trol and monitoring system facilitates
the operation and observation of these
lighting installations, and ensures that
safety requirements are met. This sys-
tem provides workstations for tower and
technical personnel to simplify daily op-
erational processes and optimize main-
tenance activities.

Secutech 2018, the leading exhibi-
tion for the security industry, is
scheduled to be held 25 – 27 April 2018
in Taipei, Taiwan. The fair is expected to
welcome more than 400 exhibitors from
15 countries and regions, and this year
will correspond with the industry’s evo-
lutionary shifts in buying habits.
The emergence of IoT, AI and big
data has reshaped the traditional se-
curity industry and led to the develop-
ment of solution-oriented products and
intelligent applications. As a result, it
has created a growing demand for more
diverse markets. In response, buyers are
modifying their purchasing strategies.
For example, conventional security buy-
ers are looking for value-added products
bundled with intelligent analytics tech-
nology, while new buyers from the IT
industry are searching for products with
IoT technologies. At the same time, sys-
tem integrators are pursuing multifac-
eted solutions.
Commenting on these changes in
sourcing behav-
iours, Ms Regina

concern for indus-
try players, and
they’re willing to
pay more for inno-
vative technologies.
Product customi-
sation is the key
differentiator in this highly competi-
tive market. No matter how the security
market has changed over the years, Se-
cutech’s mission is to broaden the scope
of solutions and facilitate cross-industry
cooperation.”
In order to cover a wide spectrum of
products, this year’s edition of Secutech
will converge security, ICT and IoT by
focusing on four key technologies: key
components, AI & intelligent video ana-
lytics, ICT transmission & LPWAN, and
IoT & physical cybersecurity. Each of
these have redefined conventional secu-
rity and enabled more intelligent appli-
cations.
What’s more, the fair’s newly
launched Mobility Asian Pavilion will
highlight the latest connected vehicle
technology trends and intelligent trans-
port system solutions, such as key com-
ponents, intelligent software, automotive
electronics systems and applications.
Meanwhile, the Intelligent Solutions
Pavilion will uncover business potential
for the factory, retail, transportation and
healthcare sectors.
Apart from these two pavilions, two
concurrent events will each delve into
the trends of smart homes, as well as
fire and safety. Firstly, the SMAhome
Expo will introduce solutions for home
security, assisted living/ elderly care,
and energy management. In addition,

INTERVIEW
MalaysiaSAFE: Please give a brief background to yourself and the company.
Jimmy Low (JL): Basically, I
am the second generation owner of the
company. Magnet Security & Automa-
tion was founded in 1980 and we have
been providing automation solutions
for 37 years. My father started the com-
pany as an autogate installer and oper-
ated from a small office in Jalan Sungai
Besi. Then, we would get the autogates
directly from the UK and install them
for the expats who were living here.
Over time, some companies in Malay-
sia started manufacturing autogates so
we stopped importing them from the
UK and used locally made products.
The market evolved over the years as
our customers started requesting for
alarms, CCTVs, and intercoms so the
company had to adapt; We began in-
stalling and integrating other Extra
Low Voltage (ELV) products together
with the autogates.
When I returned from the US after
completing my studies, I wanted the
company to push the distribution busi-
ness of our own products. So we started
designing and had our products manu-
factured in China. We would then con-
duct all product QCs and final assembly
in Malaysia before distributing them
under our own brand. I am proud to say
that our business flourished over the
years, and therefore we made the deci-
sion of moving into our new and bigger
office in Pandan Jaya to accommodate
our growth. This is now our new HQ for
sales and services, together with an as-
sembly plant in Pandan Indah and our
warehouse in Pandan Cahaya.
MalaysiaSAFE: What sort of products or specialised solutions do you offer?
JL: We specialise in building secu-
rity systems and provide total solutions.
We have products for points of entry into
the building right up to the respective
offices on every floor. What this means
is that we provide the boom gates with
long range readers for entry into the car
park, the building turnstiles, and access

control into respective offices – as a full
solution, all managed by our proprietary
centralised software.
MalaysiaSAFE: What are the main brands you represent and how do your choose these brands?
JL: We select our brands based on
what we evaluate to be the best products
in terms of having the right technology
which can fill the gaps in the system. For
example, I believe MAG, which is our
own brand for barriers, boom gates, and
long range readers is one of the leading
brands in the country. It is designed to
complement any access control system.
Then we have DEA from Italy for gate
automation,Vigilance and Soyal for bio-
metric time attendance and access control
respectively, and Paradox for alarm sys-
tems. We also have our in-house brand,
MAGTEC for CCTVs. And to manage
all of the security system, we developed
our own central management software
called Soyal Etegra. So the products and
brands we choose to represent are actu-
ally derived from what the market needs.
MalaysiaSAFE: What are the challenges of growing your own brand?
JL: The first challenge for devel-
oping one’s brand is always being the
new and unknown player in the mar-
ket. In the beginning, people would be
sceptical on whether the products are
of any good quality. The price factor
plays a role too because we are sand-
wiched between the more expensive
European brands and the cheaper low
end Chinese products which are vastly
available in Malaysia and may come in
directly through Chinese construction
companies. We solve all these prob-
lems by treating the challenges as an
advantage. And the best advantage is
that we design our own products. Our
product quality is comparable to the
European ones, and we can compete
on price because we manufacture our
parts in China. That is the value that we
push to our customers, and so far, we
have been getting a positive response.
In addition, we are able to provide the
best after sales service compared to
other brands because our service cen-
tre and spare parts warehouse are all
easily accessible in Malaysia.
MalaysiaSAFE: How do you provide technical support to your clients and partners?
JL: Basically we have a support
counter based in our HQ. Customers can
just walk-in to these counters whereby
our technicians will be ready to assist
them face-to-face. We will send our
technicians on-site if our dealers are
not able to trouble-shoot the problems.
Besides having our technical support
counter, we also have a warranty centre
where engineers could actually explain
to the dealers why certain claims may
not be covered by warranty, and thus
providing transparency for all warranty
claims. This is our commitment towards
our customers.
MalaysiaSAFE: What is your go-to-market strategy?
JL: We do not sell our products di-
rectly to end-users but instead through
our partners. Even though our profit
margins can be smaller compared to
engaging in projects directly, our value
is to assist our partners so that we have
a healthy business growth. Should a
potential client become interested in
our solutions, we can approach and at-
tend to all their queries. But our part-
ners will be the ones to handle all the
projects. This creates a trusting bond
between us and our partners. And we
will also continue to support our part-
ners with regular trainings and war-
ranty claims.
MalaysiaSAFE: Which verticals are you most involved in?
JL: There is no clear cut vertical
for us because when you talk about
building security systems, it can re-
fer to any types of building. However
from our legacy market segment, we
were involved in many high rise resi-
dential projects like condominiums.
Many condos and gated communities
are using our system currently. That
is how we started. But now there are
also many office towers that are using
our autogate and barrier systems.
C M Y K
C M Y K
November-December 2017 www.malaysiasafe.com21
INTERVIEW
MalaysiaSAFE: What are the challenges in executing projects within these verticals?
JL: All verticals will have a com-
mon problem. Firstly, the wiring. We
would try our best to train our partners
the best method for laying down proper
wiring. But sometimes, the actual work
is done by unskilled workers so prob-
lems can arise from there. As a brand
owner like us, it is difficult to control the
standard of work of all our partners and
it may affect us also when a system is
not functioning like how it was meant to.
Another common problem is surge
protection. Systems like barriers and
boom gates are installed out in the open.
In a lot of cases, we would receive our
readers for repairs because they are
all burned from power surge overload
caused by lightning strikes. We regularly
remind our partners how to do proper
electrical grounding to prevent power
surges, and I can say that the work done
by our partners has improved in the last
few years.
MalaysiaSAFE: Can you name some of the prestigious projects you have undertaken?
JL: One of the most significant
projects we have done through our SI is
Trans Jakarta in Indonesia. It is an elevat-
ed bus way where we installed over 400
turnstiles and controllers at each station.
In Malaysia, during the construction pe-
riod of the MRT Line, we were involved
with Gamuda in providing our barriers
and turnstile system to control the la-
bour force and the trucks transporting
building materials. Then we did work on
Sarawak’s most famous building, Wisma
SESCO, Menara Prudential, Menara Zu-
rich, Wisma Mah Sing, the new campus
of UiTM in Dengkil, and Paragon Inter-
national School in Johor, to name a few.
MalaysiaSAFE: What are the parameters to consider when you are proposing a security solution to your clients?
JL: I think the most important
thing is first to secure your entrance. A
lot of people usually overlook this part.
Usually the first thing they would think
of for a security system is surveillance.
But if you can control the entry of
the right people into your building, then
the security threat for your building is
already significantly reduced. Although
there is no system that is 100% unb-
reachable, it is important for the build-
ing to have capable personnel to work
hand-in-hand with the systems. Just
like at traffic light, if there is no regu-
lation that people should stop during a
red light, then the whole system will not
work. So at the end of the day, technol-
ogy on its own is not sufficient to safe-
guard a building. The whole ecosystem
involving guards, tenants, building man-
agers and visitors must adopt the culture
of being safe and vigilant to maximise
what the security system can do for you.
MalaysiaSAFE: Being part of the industry, what do you hope to achieve that could influence or improve the security industry as a whole in Malaysia?
JL: What I want is for the im-
provement of the service and skill
level of the installers and technicians
within our industry. That is very im-
portant because no matter how good
a device is, if it is installed badly, the
device may not be able to give the full
benefit to the customer. Profession-
alism within our work, that is key. I
think during my father’s time, a sys-
tem could run for at least 10 years
before encountering any problems
because the way wiring and conduits
are installed, all are done properly.
Today, too many shortcuts in the work
and end-users may not be aware of it.
This can happen when everyone com-
petes with a lower pricing. So, when
the system doesn’t work, the product
gets the blame.
MalaysiaSAFE: What new initiatives have you charted for 2018?
JL: We are moving more aggres-
sively into building security. For the
past few years we have focused more
on our barriers. So from next year on-
wards, we will put other security prod-
ucts such as our access controls and
software under the limelight. All this, in
response to the rising terrorism threats
all over the world. We understand that
not every building will have the budget
to install state-of-the-art security sys-
tems, but we are always ready to pro-
vide sufficient protection. Ultimately,
we want to make good security systems
accessible and affordable for everyone,
especially in our region.
We are moving more aggressively into building security. For the past few years we have focused more on our barriers. So from next year onwards,
we will put other security products such as our access controls and software

select education sessions and keynotes.
First time attendee Rick Derks, CSO,
FCS Financial noted, “ASIS 2017 offered
an opportunity to interact with thought
leaders from both the operational and the
cyber communities in meaningful discus-
sions. The event was executed flawlessly,
and I was impressed by the profession-
alism of everyone involved. Due to my
positive experience, ASIS International

Veteran attendee Mike Howard,
Chief Security Officer, Microsoft not-
ed, “The changes implemented for this
year’s event made a huge impact across
the board. From the energy on the show
floor to the one-on-one executive-level
conversations that occurred, I found
great value in the opportunities ASIS
2017 provided.”
The reimagined exhibit hall fea-
tured more than 575 exhibitors show-
casing new and emerging products and
technologies such as machine learning,

IDIS has featured its new IDIS Ultimate
Warranty at the ASIS International Ex-
hibition 2017 in Dallas, Texas. Breaking
free from industry norms of three to five
years, the new IDIS guarantees extend
protections for its latest-generation tech-
nologies by two-years, bringing the war-
ranty for H.265 NVRs and multi-format
HD-TVI, DirectCX TVRs to an unprec-
edented seven years.
The new extended warranty gives
IDIS integrators and installers a clear
competitive advantage and delivers in-
creased peace of mind with a lower cost
of ownership to end users. The IDIS
Ultimate Warranty is also particularly
competitive when compared to PC-based
solutions that typically handle up to
64-channels, which have a maximum
warranty of three years, forcing end
users to purchase additional warran-
ties way before the end of their sur-
veillance solution’s lifecycle.
A recent survey conducted by
IFSEC Global showed most organi-
zations look to upgrade surveillance
systems after four to six years. With
the IDIS Ultimate Warranty, end us-
ers can be confident that their IDIS solu-
tion will be supported for its entire life
cycle, a demonstration of IDIS’s confi-
dence in its industry-leading quality and
reliability.
Joon Jun, President of the IDIS
Global Business Division notes, “As
IDIS has brought every new innova-
tive product to market, each element
has been designed and manufactured
in-house with quality and reliability in
mind. We still have IDIS DVRs installed
over 13 years ago in operation that have
required little to no maintenance. This is
a testament to IDIS quality and reliabili-
ty, and one that makes the IDIS Ultimate
Warranty, which extends our guarantees
for some products to as many as 7 years,
a natural step.”

The result of the merger of Oberthur Technologies (OT) and Safran Iden-
tity & Security (Morpho), the OT-Mor-pho group today became IDEMIA. The group’s ambition is to empower citizens and consumers to interact, pay, connect, travel and even vote securely while tak-ing advantage of the opportunities of an increasingly connected world.
At an event that brought together nearly 2,000 guests at the Seine musicale (an iconic cultural venue in the west of Paris, France), Didier Lamouche, Chair-man CEO of OT-Morpho, officially re-named the group IDEMIA. In a world di-rectly impacted by the exponential growth of connected objects, the increasing glo-balisation of exchanges, the digitalisation of the economy and the consumerisation of technology, IDEMIA stands as the new leader in trusted identities placing “Aug-mented Identity” at the heart of its actions. As an expression of this innovative strat-egy, the group has been renamed IDEMIA
in reference to powerful terms: Identity, Idea and the Latin word idem, reflecting its mission to guarantee everyone a safer world thanks to its expertise in trusted identities.
This event furthermore provided an opportunity to discover all of the group’s latest innovations. These include the auto-mated air passenger boarding process, the new generation biometric payment card, and embedded security systems to equip the connected cars of tomorrow.
Supported by a workforce of 14,000 employees from all over the world, includ-ing 2,000 in the Research and Develop-ment department, IDEMIA is the result of the merger between OT and Morpho completed on 31 May 2017. Today a lead-ing player in the identification and authen-tication sector, the group serves clients in 180 countries and provides services to five main customer segments: Financial Insti-tutions, Mobile Operators, Connected Ob-jects, Citizen Identity, and Public Security.
“Our future will be built through in-novation and disruption which will revo-lutionise our daily lives. Our vision when we merged OT and Morpho was to build a new offer capable of revisiting the world of digital security. And this is what the creation of IDEMIA has achieved. Thanks to our talented people and the solutions they invent, citizens and consumers can now connect, interact, exchange, pay, travel or even vote in total confidence, drawing on the benefits of a connected world,” explained Didier Lamouche, CEO of IDEMIA.
“The accomplishment of this promise is what we call Augmented Identity. It is about using the biometric characteristics of each person as a unique signature of individual identity, thus facilitating ex-changes. It fosters confidentiality and trust and guarantees secure, authenticated and verifiable transactions. This is a decisive step towards a more frictionless, safer world.”

When cities grow, so do the chal-
lenges facing their citizens,
representatives and services. Urbani-
zation poses challenges to safety and
security, and puts demand on vital
infrastructure. As part of its smart
city initiative, Axis Communications
helps cities fulfil their promise of
creating a safer, more mobile eve-
ryday environment. To demonstrate
what is possible, Axis together with
its partners will demonstrate cutting
edge smart city solutions at this year’s
Smart City Expo World Congress, 14-
16 November, in Barcelona.
Smart cities use cameras, sen-
sors and other connected technology
to increase livability and improve the
management of the city’s assets. A
key part of the smart city concept is
that of a safe city, where authorities
strive to reduce crime rates and pro-
vide citizens with a lasting sense of
security. As the market leader in net-
work video, Axis helps cities achieve
this vision, and together with partners
also provides smart video solutions
that improve the urban traffic flow.
Safety in the smart city
Safety is often the main driver
for a smart city initiative. Axis
video solutions provide clear return
on safety investments, turning reac-
tive forensics into proactive real-time
security. Using Axis cameras and
partnered expertise, including facial
recognition and even drone detection,
city authorities can automatically spot
potential incidents and manage events
as they happen. Through triggered
lighting and audio or direct two-way
communication, they can often deter
an incident in progress. If not, they
have all the information needed for a
rapid response and successful inves-
tigation. Axis video solutions can be
found in smart city projects world-
wide. One example is Detroit’s safety
initiative Project Green Light that is
centered on Genetec’s unified secu-
rity platform, allowing for efficient
incident management and collabora-
tive response.
Keeping smart cities on the move
Closely related to safety is the
area of mobility, where Axis
also has a dedicated offering. Togeth-
er with the offering from Citilog, an
Axis company, Axis video solutions
can swiftly detect traffic accidents or
violations, as well as provide com-
prehensive data for improving traf-
fic flow. The result is not only faster
emergency response and better utili-
zation of existing infrastructure, but
also happier commuters.
Cameras that deliver more than video
Whether deterring crime or re-
ducing road congestion, Axis
cameras are versatile tools that sup-
port the entire incident management
chain. By providing detailed, high-
quality video in even the most dif-
ficult conditions, they offer the best
possible platform for optimizing situ-
ational awareness and operational
efficiency. In this way, Axis solu-
tions support municipal leadership
in meeting the demands and wishes
of citizens. By reducing crime, mak-
ing public areas secure and helping
traffic flow smoothly, they contribute
to creating an appealing, prosperous
city, where life and business runs
smoothly.

INTERPOL and British Telecom (BT)
have signed an agreement which will
see increased cooperation between the
two organizations to prevent and com-
bat cybercrime.
Signed at the INTERPOL Global
Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Sin-
gapore, the accord will see BT and
INTERPOL share threat intelligence
data relating to criminal trends in cy-
ber-space, emerging and known cyber-
threats and malicious attacks.
BT’s threat intelligence experts will
provide the IGCI with their knowledge
and unique insight into the evolving
global threat landscape, helping IN-
TERPOL in its efforts to identify and
take action against cyber-criminals op-
erating around the world.
Earlier this year BT was one of the
seven private sector companies which
provided support to an INTERPOL-led
operation targeting cybercrime across
the ASEAN region. BT’s threat intel-
ligence and investigation team, based
at the company’s security operations
centre in Singapore, provided informa-
tion on regional threats, including data
relating to local hactivist groups and
phishing sites.
The wider operation uncovered
nearly 9,000 command and control
(C2) servers, which are typically used
to launch distributed denial of service
(DDoS) attacks and spread malware,
ransomware and spam. Hundreds of
compromised websites, including gov-
ernment portals, were also discovered
as a result of the investigations.
“The scale and complexity of to-
day’s cyber-threat landscape means
cooperation across all sectors is essen-
tial if we are to effectively combat this
global phenomenon,” said Noboru Na-
katani, Executive Director of the IGCI.
“INTERPOL’s agreement with Brit-
ish Telecom is an important step in our
continued efforts to ensure law en-
forcement worldwide has access to the
information they need to combat these
evolving cyberthreats,” added Mr Na-
katani.
Mark Hughes, CEO, BT Security,
said, “Threat intelligence sharing be-
tween law enforcement agencies and
the private sector is essential in the fight
against cyber-crime, which is increas-
ingly borderless in nature. Tackling
cyber-crime therefore requires a collec-
tive, global response where the public
and private sectors work hand-in-hand.
“BT’s security expertise will help
INTERPOL identify cyber-criminals
and hold them to account, while their
intelligence will enhance our under-
standing of the challenges that we and
other organisations face in the battle
against cyber-attacks,” concluded Mr
Hughes.
BT is the first telecommunications
provider to sign such an agreement with
INTERPOL.

Oncam, the leading provider of 360-degree video cap-
ture and business intelligence technology has been
honored with two awards as part of Retail Risks’ Fraud
Awards 2017 program. Oncam, alongside partner Video
Analysis Solutions (VAS), was named the winner of the
Most Innovative In-store Solution for its Live Customer
Occupancy Watch platform and received a ‘highly com-
mended’ recognition in the category of Most Innovative
In-store Surveillance for its one box video surveillance so-
lution.
Each year, the Retail Fraud Awards highlights advanced
technologies, programs, teams and services designed to re-
duce retail fraud and enhance loss prevention efforts. Sub-
missions are judged by leading retailers across the globe,
including representatives from Amazon, Adidas, JD Sports
Fashion, Cotton On Group, McDonald’s and more.
Oncam and VAS were awarded for their collaborative
effort to provide a holistic approach to customer-based
analytics using Oncam’s award-winning, 360-degree sur-
veillance solutions and VAS analytics software. The Live
Customer Occupancy Watch platform uses captured video
to determine customer conversion rates, high-traffic areas,
customer-to-employee ratio information that can be used
to boost customer service, and much more. The result is a
solution that utilizes IP surveillance, along with key busi-
ness intelligence capabilities that many retailers demand
in an effort to deliver higher levels of customer service,
operational efficiency and the protection of critical assets
within a store.
“Partnership is the key to our success and this award
demonstrates how our focus on understanding specific re-
tail requirements delivers real-world results,” said Scott
Brothers, Executive Vice President of Corporate Develop-
ment, Oncam, “We continually align ourselves with key
stakeholders both on the loss prevention and retail side to
understand their operation and needs. The collaboration be-
tween Oncam and VAS has grown at an ever-increasing rate
to ensure we are aligned in how we support the retail com-
munity, both technically and culturally. ”

To continue providing the expected, products and servic-
es that we expect, businesses handle increasingly large
amounts of data. The security of this information is a major con-
cern to consumers and companies alike fuelled by a number of
high-profile cyberattacks.
The havoc caused by such attacks runs from celebrities em-
barrassed by careless photos, to the loss of medical records, to
ransom threats amounting to millions that have hit even the most
powerful corporations.
Where such data contains personal, financial or medical in-
formation, companies have both a moral and legal obligation
to keep it safe from cybercriminals. That’s where International
Standards like the ISO/IEC 27000 family come in, helping or-
ganizations manage the security of assets such as financial in-
formation, intellectual property, employee details or information
entrusted to them by third parties.
ISO/IEC 27001 is the best-known standard in the family
providing requirements for an information security manage-
ment system (ISMS). It’s an International Standard to which an
organization can be certified, although certification is optional.
For the person charged with auditing a particular company it
can be a complex process. Likewise, getting ready for a smooth
audit requires preparation and attention to detail. That’s pre-
cisely why ISO/IEC 27007 Information technology – Security
techniques – Guidelines for information security management
systems auditing exists. It helps both parties thoroughly prepare
by providing clear guidance. First published in 2011, ISO/IEC
27007 has now been updated to align it to ISO/IEC 27001:2013.
It provides guidance on the management of an information
security management system (ISMS) audit programme, the con-
duct of internal and external ISMS audits in accordance with
ISO/IEC 27001, and the competence and evaluation of ISMS
auditors. Additionally, it provides extensive guidance for au-
diting all requirements stated in ISO/IEC 27001. It’s intended
to be used in conjunction with the guidance contained in ISO
19011:2011, and follows the same structure as that International
Standard.
ISO/IEC 27007 bring benefits to any type of business and
is designed to be applicable for all users, including small and
medium sized organizations.

Palo Alto Networks® Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) offering, Aperture™ SaaS security service, now
provides application protections for several Amazon Web Ser-vices (AWS) solutions, including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3).
The new protections address sensitive data loss, enable monitoring for risky or suspicious administrator behavior, and provide additional protection against security miscon-figurations and malware propagation. When combined with the preventive capabilities of the Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Security Platform, these advancements will en-able organizations to achieve even more protection for AWS, as well as address critical cloud security needs to deliver the most complete application and data security for cloud envi-ronments. Additionally, Aperture support for Office 365 and Google applications has been enhanced to include cloud-based email services and G Suite Marketplace applications.
Data and applications reside everywhere – on the network, on endpoints, and in the cloud. As part of the migration to the cloud, many enterprises are adopting a multi-cloud strategy that includes storing large amounts of business-critical data within cloud environments, which requires advanced protec-tions that complement basic native cloud offering controls to achieve comprehensive and consistent security.
Palo Alto Networks Aperture controls enterprise SaaS ap-plications and associated data by examining and controlling how data is shared, all without impacting user experience or changes to network infrastructure. If a policy violation occurs, Aperture enables quick enforcement of security policies to quarantine folders and data while immediately alerting secu-rity teams of suspicious behavior.
“Our Aperture service secures business-critical data resid-ing within today’s most important cloud-based enterprise SaaS applications. With extensive capabilities across our security platform and our latest application protections for Amazon Web Services, our customers benefit from complete visibility and granular control, instant classification, and enforcement across users, folders, and file activities, enabling them to pre-vent cyber breaches and protect their data no matter where it resides,” said Lee Klarich, Executive Vice President, Product Management, Palo Alto Networks.

Senstar announced the beginning of a transition pe-
riod to bring Aimetis under the Senstar brand. Sen-
star acquired Aimetis in April 2016. Since that time the
two companies have worked in parallel to continue to
provide market-leading PIDS and VMS solutions, but
over the coming months, Senstar and Aimetis will be-
come one company, resulting in reduced complexity,
improved performance, and unified support.
“Bringing together the PIDS expertise of Senstar
with the VMS and analytics knowledge of Aimetis ena-
bles us to offer an unrivaled range of innovative security
solutions and world-class support,” said Senstar Presi-
dent Brian Rich, “Throughout the transition period we
are committed to ensuring as little disruption as possi-
ble to our business. Our customers and partners can ex-
pect the same accessible, responsive and flexible sales
and support they have always relied on, and to be well-
informed regarding any changes that may affect them.”
The combination of PIDS and VMS addresses a
growing trend in the security industry to reduce com-
plexity by enabling customers and partners to source
comprehensive security solutions from a single pro-
vider, resulting in reduced costs and greater account-
ability.
Senstar also introduces the integration of its Net-
work Manager alarm reporting system and Symphony
VMS (formerly Aimetis). Network Manager is a soft-
ware gateway that allows communication with a wide
array of Senstar sensors, including FlexZone®, Fiber-
Patrol®, OmniTrax®, and UltraWave™. Symphony, the
new benchmark for intelligent video management, is an
ideal software solution for recording, monitoring and
analyzing video from both single server installations
and multi-server deployments.
The integration enables Symphony to receive the
full range of alarm and status information from Senstar
sensors via an IP connection. For each sensor alarm the
full range of Symphony’s security responses can be ini-
tiated, including commanding camera actions and pro-
viding visual and audio alerts.

Retailers, like most businesses, are
attempting to do more with less
in an effort to increase competitiveness
and profitability. Hardest hit have been
corporate support organizations (Target
and Best Buy are recent high-profile ex-
amples) where corporate loss prevention
personnel who specialize in identifying
and investigating corporate shrink typi-
cally reside. These developments, com-
bined with growing shrink numbers,
are further exacerbated by decreasing
employee loyalty as many retailers have
reduced employees’ weekly hours. This
has resulted in some employers increas-
ing their number of part-time employees
by up to 30 percent or more. In fact, the
Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the
number of involuntary part-time work-
ers has nearly doubled from 2006 to
2013 and that trend continues.
The state of the market today
Retail employees today have to fre-
quently juggle multiple jobs to
earn the same income, further impacting
already-low employee loyalty. There are
fewer people who oversee a greater num-
ber of people who have relatively low-
wage jobs and less than stellar loyalty to
their employer. Is it any wonder that up-
wards to 50% of retail shrink is internal?
Employees stealing from their company
– the type of theft that isn’t opportunis-
tic like most shoplifting – is chronic, and
happening over and over again.
The focus for retail loss prevention
tools is on return on investment (ROI)
to be sure, but just as important they
must demonstrate a return on time in-
vested (ROTI) as well. That is, if I spend
an hour using this tool it will be more
productive than an hour using traditional
approaches and tools. Also the better,
newer tool must be able to capture and
apply the insights of those few LP spe-
cialists and then make the results avail-
able for use to a wider audience within
the company. Some retailers outsource
this function to companies whose em-
ployees will have little insight into the
company itself. This means the best loss
prevention tools have to be intuitive
and easy enough to use for just about
anyone. Employee theft that originates
at the register is a huge and persistent
problem. It generally makes up nearly
50% of the loss in any retail operation,
some contending even 80%. This means
that a single employee can steal day in
and day out from an employer using the
same methods, if undetected, and losses
exceeding thousands of dollars are not
uncommon.
Therefore, catching a single dishon-
est employee generally has a greater
impact on shrink than catching several
shoplifters who may only steal oppor-
tunistically once or twice from that re-
tailer. The sooner a company can iden-
tify and remove these employees, the
greater the impact on reducing shrink.

tioned that an employee who was doing
item returns for cash, started out stealing

end of the month, when the employee
was finally caught he was doing over
$600 a day. A total loss of $18,000 dol-
lars is certainly not a pocket change. The
employee is now in jail, but the retailer is
out of $18,000. Think about a company
that has 1,500 stores across the country.
If only 1% of the stores have dishonest
employees like Mr. $18,000, It cost the
retailer $270,000…in just one month.
Implementing business intelligence analysis
While a number of companies spe-
cialize for sometime in tools to
help identify suspect transactions, the
new focus needs to be on how to not only
identify a suspect individual transaction,
but on a comprehensive, data-driven
method to identify employees who are
the worst offenders – by company, re-
gion, division, store etc. All retailers
have learned over time which type of
Point of Sale (POS) transaction or com-
binations of transactions may indicate
employee theft in their stores. Typically,
retailers will have 20-30 types of trans-
actions (cancel followed by… or no sale
followed by… or excessive returns, etc).
Of the 20-30 transaction types, some are
much more likely to be theft.
3xLOGIC’s Cloud-based VIGIL
Trends business intelligence solution
uses algorithms to identify top offend-
ers by assigning a weight to each type of
transaction or exception (giving higher
weights to transactions with higher po-
tential for theft), so that chronic of-
fenders visibly bubble to the top of the
list. VIGIL Trends combines this with
a straightforward and quick way to re-
view all transactions and the associated
video, increasing the effectiveness of
the trained loss prevention professional,
and also provides a tool where regional
managers and others can easily get in-
volved and contribute to reduc-
ing shrink.
This sounds great, but
what’s happening in the actual
stores?
A recent Aberdeen Group
study indicated that 45% of re-
tailers struggle to get timely data
and only 26% of retailers have
implemented any exception re-
porting program like those de-
scribed above. Since Big Data
management tools that deliver
timely data are increasingly available,
and there is minimal capital investment
to implement a cloud-based Big Data
exception reporting solution, we expect
the percentage of retailers who imple-
ment such reporting systems to greatly
increase over next few years.
Case studies: Business intelligence in action
One of my favorite retail loss stories
is from one of the first end users
I worked with to implement our VIGIL
Trends business intelligence software
product. Upon implementation and full
monitoring of POS data from this head
of loss prevention’s 1,500 stores, the
company had 8,000 employees process-
ing over 2.5 million transactions daily.
We scheduled a webinar training session
with his team to get them started with
the Trends software, and in the email
invitation we included a login and pass-
word he could use for the dashboard of
his new LP solution. Five minutes after
sending him the email, he wrote back,“I
love it, it’s so easy to use I just caught
the first person!” The best, most effec-
tive BI packages must be very easy to
use and capable of finding “the needle
in the haystack” without 16 complicated
maneuvers and writing your own code. It
must provide that all-important return on
time invested. I recently learned that this
same end user projects that one of their
analysts will reduce shrink by approxi-
mately $1.2 million in one year using the
software package. One person. Over one
million dollars saved. That’s huge!
Integrated video for instant review
The ability to review video associ-
ated with POS exceptions has tra-
ditionally been a weakness in excep-
tion-based reporting systems. Typically,
systems provide the time and date of the
POS exception and then the end user
has to crank up their DVR software to
manually input the parameters to be ap-
plied to request the relevant video. In
such scenarios the end user has to wait
for the video to be uploaded from a dis-
tant store. In most retail applications the
network links to the stores are very low
speed – we have customers who still have
64Kb transmission – and security video
almost always is allocated only a por-
tion of the network connection, so more
critical store operations such as POS
and credit card data can be processed. I
have seen it take more than 10 minutes
to review a one-minute POS transaction.
This is not very good when measuring
return on time invested especially when
it’s repeated over and over.
VIGIL Trends utilizes a scheme

feature
where all POS exceptions that show a
high probability of theft, and therefore
are expected to be viewed, are securely
uploaded to the cloud in the background,
when bandwidth is available, where they
can then be played in a ‘YouTube’ like
video format. By using such a video
preload capability, one end user’s corpo-
rate investigators, who had been closing
just one or two cases a month, closed
100 cases in the first full year of use. Be-
cause they could review video quickly
they were able to look at far more excep-
tions and close more than 5x the cases
on an annual basis.
The Trends dashboard simplifies the
arduous task of loss prevention by pri-
oritizing the highest level offender(s) at
the top of the list allowing investigators
the highest degree of ROTI… you can
have analysts working on 5 cases of low
fraud value while a chronic offender is
lurking undiscovered deep down the
list… that can’t happen under the watch-
ful BI engine of Trends, we use a very
sophisticated algorithm to expose and
prioritize those abusers.
Using video for what can and what can’t be seen
Tight integration with video enables
loss prevention professionals to cre-
ate compound exceptions that are based
not only on POS transaction data but who
is in the camera scene as well. Using that
capability, VIGIL Trends can create an
exception for a product return when no
customer is present. We use video ana-
lytics to review the video for a customer
in the area where a customer should be
standing during the return. If there is no
customer, then we flag the exception as a
return with no customer present. The odds
that this type of transaction involves theft
are very high. When we turned this func-
tion on for one end user who had only 100
stores, they caught 30 employees in the
first month. Several were trusted employ-
ees in good standing who had worked for
the company for over five years – proving
you often really don’t know where your
shrink is coming from.
Looking over the horizon, what’s next in battling shrink?
One of the benefits of using Big Data
over the last couple years is that cost
of creating very large data sets with bil-
lions of transactions is low, and combin-
ing the ability to search those transactions
at an equally low cost is creating new op-
portunities to more effectively mine that
data. We used to keep a few months of
transactions per retail location and were
only able to search one location at a time.
Now, we can keep years’ worth of trans-
actions and quickly perform searches that
span the entire enterprise. With this much
richer data set, we are starting to look at
trends where we study employees who
have been caught stealing over time and
compare them to current employees to
help identify bad behavior quickly so it
can be stopped with a conversation and
disciplinary action not requiring termi-
nation. By doing this we identify theft
early to prevent significant loss over time,
which is the key role of any Loss Preven-
tion specialist. We may also be able to
‘save’ an employee from termination and
getting a record
That will negatively impact their
entire life, while at the same time sav-
ing the retailer the cost of terminating
An employee and hiring and training a
replacement.
We are also looking at the same data
sets to monitor new employee perfor-
mance over time. This data can be used
to determine what type of training is
the most effective and when additional
training is required. In addition, we
identify patterns of activity where stores
or regions are not conducting business
according to corporate guidelines. For
example, we can point out which em-
ployees are checking IDs for tobacco
and liquor vs. doing a date override be-
cause the customer ‘looks old enough.’
Customer demographics are consistent
over time at the same location, so check-
ing IDs should be equally consistent for
all employees.
We have found that retailers have
many other very rich data sets that fit
nicely into an advanced Business Intelli-
gence software package. Data from alarm
panels also provides many insights into
a retailer’s locations. Simply by looking
at opening and closing times, Operations
staff can quickly see which stores chroni-
cally open late or close early. Locations
with higher than average numbers of un-
scheduled openings bear further inves-
tigation. Monitoring phone records can
point to stores where employees may be
spending excessive amounts of time on
non-work related activity. The list goes
on and on of data sources that may seem
mundane but provide rich insights into
behavior that is potentially hurting pro-
ductivity and reducing profits.
We have only started to reap the
benefits from mining all the data we are
collecting across tens of thousands of lo-
cations, and that value to the entire end
user organization will only increase as
we add more data sets (store traffic pat-
terns, employee staffing, weather, alarm
data, to name a few). Once end-users
start asking questions about their data
that would have been impossible to an-
swer just a few years ago, they will come
to understand new insights they’ve only
dreamed about and their ‘wish lists’ for
tools to further reduce shrink will really
start to grow.

In a crowded marketplace, thousands
of retail companies, private business-
es and public authorities offer parking
facilities. With that ownership comes a
duty and a desire to constantly improve
their facility’s quality and convenience
for customers. Whether at a standalone
business, a shopping mall, hospital, su-
permarket, transportation site, or public
parking lot, providing a high-level of
service is the key to establishing a good
experience, building repeat business and
creating a loyal customer base.
The rising costs of property and land
means successful parking businesses
must strive to make the most economi-
cal use of their lots. Therefore, the effec-
tive management of every square inch of
available parking space is an increasing
priority.
With years of experience apply-
ing intelligent solutions in thousands
of businesses around the world, Hikvi-
sion, the world’s leading supplier of in-
novative video surveillance products and
solutions, is set to make life easier for
parking operators. With their state-of-
the-art Smart Parking Management So-
lution, Hikvision masterfully improves
the efficient management, security, and
profitability objectives of parking opera-
tors.
Effective access management
For parking lots close to town centers
or popular facilities, high customer
flow during rush hours often creates
parking entrance congestion. Effective
parking safety and management are crit-
ical concerns here, especially in retail
sectors.
The Hikvision Smart Parking Man-
agement System applies the latest bar-
rier technology, combining it with Hik-
vision’s industry-standard Automatic
Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) to
ensure seamless, managed vehicular en-
trance and exit from
parking lots. Fast
vehicle identifica-
tion and integrated
barrier control soft-
ware means queues
are minimised, and
greater vehicle flow
can be handled to in-
crease the productiv-
ity and efficiency of
any parking site.
Advanced Hikvi-
sion DarkFighter and
True WDR imaging technologies are
employed in the ANPR system, as well
as optional IR or built-in white light
LED lighting. These industry-leading
technologies ensure the delivery of crisp
and clear recognition and recording of
every vehicle using a parking lot day
and night.
Efficient parking guidance
Parking Guidance cameras in this ro-
bust solution automatically monitor
the use of the car park along with the
availability of spaces, 24 hours a day.
More sophisticated and useful than the
usual ‘Spaces available’ sign, the sys-
tem actually highlights the available
parking spaces to customers and guides
them to those spaces upon arrival. This
is achieved via parking guidance display
screens at critical junctions within the
car park, which display the number and
location of available parking spaces. Ad-

ditionally, a dynamic lighting indicator
system directs customers to a specific
space available – reducing customer
parking times and creating an experience
where drivers always find a free parking
space quickly.
Controlled by the Hikvision Parking
Guidance Terminal, the system not only
provides power and network access for
up to 32 nearby cameras, but also pro-
vides real-time video for surveillance
and incident evidence preservation. Ad-
ditionally, terminals back up critical data
locally and can run parking guidance
offline – to ensure optimal system reli-
ability and minimal impact on local area
data networks.
‘Find My Car’ feature
Creating additional value and an im-
proving end-user experience in a
parking lot, the Hikvision Smart Parking
Management System includes a ‘Find
My Car’ feature. When returning to the
parking lot, drivers can use the Query Ki-
osk touchscreen. By simply entering their
license plate number in full or in part,
vehicles can be easily located on a sche-
matic floor map, and the vehicle location
displayed, along with the shortest and
quickest route to the vehicle. This means
vehicles can be located eas-
ily by customers in the often
confusing architecture of a
modern car park, plus vulner-
able users can feel safe know-
ing they are provided with a
simple, fast and safe route to
their vehicle. This again con-
tributes to creating a safe and
secure environment, one that
will encourage customers to
use the facility more often –
with the effect of increasing
business revenue.
Centralised parking management
Day-to-day management, includ-
ing remote barrier control, license
plate access management, vehicle ac-
cidents and unauthorised parking, can
now be achieved with Hikvision’s cen-
tralised parking management platform.
Providing the information and tools es-
sential to ensuring smooth parking lot
operation, the Hikvision Smart Parking
Management Solution employs a central
management platform that enables op-
erators to deploy manpower, monitor a
comprehensive facility overview, and re-
spond to planned and unplanned events
quickly and efficiently.
The system can provide invaluable
statistical and analytical parking lot in-
formation, helping operators maximise
their profitability and supplying status
history, parking usage rates, parking ve-
hicle flow, and much more. Integration
into third-party systems such as ‘Find
My Car,’ indoor navigation and payment
systems are all supported by an Open
SDK framework, allowing system inte-
grators to provide operators with a solu-
tion that works for them.
In short, parking businesses need to
provide the greatest level of flexibility
for their customers and ensure they can
enter and leave parking lots with mini-
mal hindrance. Automated barriers can
help keep customers moving smoothly
through parking facilities, but ensuring
the best possible vehicle entrance and
exit flow without congestion, along with
the ability to locate free parking spaces
simply and quickly is the key to provid-
ing a far better customer experience.
Using the Hikvision Smart Park-
ing Management Solution, commercial
parking lot managers can maximise the
full potential and profitability of their
parking lots – and all while ensuring that
their customers feel satisfied and safe in
their parking lot of choice.

statistics such as the number of people
entering or leaving a store, or identify
patterns in customer activity in order to
optimize store layouts, improve custom-
er experiences and bolster sales.
Another example of how the cam-
eras take analytics beyond mere secu-
rity applications is by helping enforce
health and safety regulations in com-
mercial buildings, retail, warehouses
and industrial facilities. Through
video analytics, automatic alarms can
trigger when something is blocking
emergency exits, when forklift trucks
are driving in the wrong direction, or
when unauthorized vehicles are parked
in ‘no-parking’ areas, such as loading
zones.
The next level in video security
and video data analytics requires
cameras with built-in video analytics
combined with the ability to deliver
the highest image quality and most ef-
ficient data management. With these
requirements in mind, the IP 4000i, IP
5000i and IP 6000i cameras are avail-
able in a range of resolutions, from
720p up to 5 megapixels, with frame
rates up to 60 frames per second. Even
in challenging lighting conditions, the
new DINION IP starlight 6000i IR
bullet camera provides clear and de-
tailed color images thanks to Bosch
starlight technology. This opens up
the camera’s full video analytics ca-
pabilities, like color filtering, even in
scenes with minimal ambient light, to
improve security and offer new appli-
cation opportunities.
For the most efficient data man-
agement, all IP 4000i, IP 5000i and IP
6000i cameras offer Intelligent Dynamic
Noise Reduction and Intelligent stream-
ing. Since quiet scenes with little or no
movement require a lower bitrate, the
cameras’ intelligent bitrate techniques
distinguish between image noise and
relevant information, such as movement.
This helps keep video data manageable,
while substantially reducing network
strain and storage requirements. And
because image noise is reduced at the
source during image capture, the lower
bitrate does not compromise video qual-
ity. Combined with latest H.265 video
compression, the cameras can reduce
bitrates by up to 80 percent. In case
a legacy system does not yet support
H.265, the all-new IP 4000i, IP 5000i
and IP 6000i cameras ensure backward
compatibility by supporting legacy
H.264 systems. Like all Bosch network
cameras, the IP 4000i, IP 5000i and IP
6000i models offer various software and
hardware measures, such as a built-in
Trusted Platform Module, to keep video
data secure.
Bosch’s new IP 4000i, IP 5000i and
IP 6000i fixed dome and bullet cam-
eras with built-in video analytics are
designed to take data usage to a whole
new level. The cameras not only meet
highest security demands, they open
up the world of video analytics, revolu-
tionizing how video data is used. Users
can now put video analytics to work for
them - to make smarter business deci-
sions.

Leveraging its experience in cam-
era image analysis and intelligent
algorithms, Dahua Technology has de-
veloped thermal imaging devices with
innovative functions that balance visible
light with infrared, enabling the ability
to effectively monitor an area under all
lighting conditions. These functions in-
clude intelligent temperature measure-
ment which further extends the scope of
surveillance applications such as detect-
ing forest fires or quickly checking for
passengers with high fevers at interna-
tional airports.
The following three applications
demonstrate the widespread capabilities
of thermal imaging devices:
1. Border security
Dahua Technology has created a
comprehensive solution to tackle
the challenges of border surveillance.
A thermal dome camera (TPC-SD8320)
with 30x zoom installed at every 1km
of a 100km section of essentially unlit,
wild border terrain can quickly detect
objects and then confirm threats using
visible light images. In this way, just
100 cameras alternately placed on both
sides of the border are necessary to pro-
vide full coverage, which can be man-
aged by a small team of workers from a
command center. The center is outfitted
with an e-map, which shows the location
and current sight line of each camera,
allowing border workers to assess sur-
veillance coverage in real-time. When a
camera detects someone entering a re-
stricted area, it will automatically trigger
an alarm while continuing to track the
target. Staff can then alert the intruder
and warn them with sirens. If needed, a
team can then be quickly dispatched to
confront the intruder. In addition, intel-
ligent route patrol allows operators to
configure cameras to follow a set patrol
route according to the requirements and
the terrain, decreasing the need for man-
ual control.
2. Forest fire prevention
With the potential of having cata-
strophic consequences, fires are
the greatest danger to a forest. Efforts
to prevent forest fires have been ex-
plored over the years, but several diffi-
culties still exist – the area of the forest
is disproportionately large to the limited
number of patrols who move relatively
slowly and are equipped
with only their eyes, from
which a fire source is
very likely to escape de-
tection, especially when
smokeless. To effectively
prevent forest fires, new
technologies that can function more ac-
curately than humans are needed.
Dahua’s intelligent forest fire moni-
toring system automatically monitors
the entire forest area, conducting intel-
ligent patrols. If a blaze begins, the sys-
tem will automatically trigger an alarm
via a high precision intelligent algorithm
which uses laser positioning to accurate-
ly locate the source of the fire.
3. Substation inspection
As power transmission hubs, sub-
stations must maintain a safe and
stable state at all times. Manual patrol
alone is not enough since malfunctions
can happen in an instant and may not be
immediately detected, or a patrol may
not be able to see silent breakdowns
waiting to occur.
Fortunately, new devices allow us
to use technology in order to detect
problems. Dahua has developed an in-
telligent substation monitoring system
which provides intelligent patrol fea-
tures complete with a report after each
round of patrolling. In other words, it
provides users with real-time informa-
tion about substation equipment in a
way that is much more efficient, saving
time and labor. Furthermore, it allows
humans and machines to work together
and take advantage of their respective
strengths. If the temperature of equip-
ment or part of the station exceeds a
preset limit, the system will automati-
cally trigger an alarm alerting manage-
ment.

infinias access control solutions by
3xLOGIC have been market tested and
trusted for years. Whether leveraging
cloud or server-based options, 3xLOG-
IC’s infinias access control offers cost-
effective security solutions that are easy
to manage, simple to install, and that
scale with the user’s changing needs.
Creating and managing schedules,
and all the exceptions for those sched-
ules, are notoriously one of the most
complex tasks within access control ap-
plications, particularly for schools and
churches. For example, schools often
need to create exception schedules or
schedule overrides for PTO meetings,
sports events, extra-curricular events.
Churches or other groups that rent out
their buildings must accommodate last
minute additions and changes to their
meeting schedules. Business owners
and building managers need to modify
door schedules to accommodate meeting
room use, access to
public spaces, and
other unforeseen
schedule changes.
“This automat-
ed scheduling capa-
bility is critical for
the access control
market,” said Bill
Hobbs, 3xLOGIC
Senior Director of
Sales, “Access Con-
trol users often have
schedule interrup-
tions, changes, and
one-time events. If
the access control system is to be used
properly, someone has to program all
these exceptions, and with standard ac-
cess control systems, this has to be done
via the software GUI which requires
training in the use of the access control
software, thus introducing the chance for
costly, even dangerous errors. 3xLOGIC’s
Calendar Integration feature has elimi-
nated the need for additional training and
put this ad-hoc scheduling capability into
tools that our customers are comfortable
with and using everyday.”
With infinias Calendar Integration,
there is no need to access the infinias
software. Authorized users simply cre-
ate an event in their Outlook or Google
calendar with a beginning and ending
date/ time, invite the door or zone as a
resource, and infinias takes care of all
the scheduling work in the background.
There’s no room for error, no reason to
learn new software, and no specialized
training or staff required. Infinias users
can also use this feature to initiate ac-
tions such as sending a text or e-mail
meeting reminder to those who need to
be at the location, unlock the associated
doors, and turn on the lights, all from a
single calendar event. Everyone knows
how to use their calendar and these ex-
ceptions can be programmed right from
a mobile device as well. Mobile access
means that when that one time event
needs to be scheduled after hours, an
authorized user can do it right from the
comfort of their home.

for the end user, but the integrator ben-
efits too – the system is easy to install

Verint® Systems Inc. has recently
launched a series of enhancements
to its video security, fraud and compliance
management solution. To meet evolving
requirements, Verint’s latest EdgeVMS™
release provides banking and retail organ-
izations with deep insights into security,
fraud and compliance with advancements
that include enhanced system reliability,
HD-over-Coax functionality, expanded
real-time visibility for operational readi-
ness, elevated levels of intelligence and
centralized fraud mitigation.
With the increasingly digital nature of
business today, especially those found in
the banking and retail sectors, come op-
portunities for greater customer engage-
ment and greater risk of fraud and loss.
Increasingly sophisticated criminal tech-
niques require financial organizations to
pursue new approaches to detect and pre-
vent such occurrences. At the same time,
customers are demanding solutions that
incorporate Big Data, Deep Learning and
the Internet of Things (IoT) to improve
the collection of data across branches,
office locations and remote sites such as
standalone ATMs and retail stores.
“The banking and retail markets
continue to evolve through the grow-
ing use of digital and mobile devices,
with more and more branch operations
aiming to enhance convenience and
service for their customers. These ad-
vancements, however, create greater
risk of loss,” says Matt Tengwall, Vice
President and General Manager, Bank-
ing and Retail Solutions, Verint, “Verint
EdgeVMS is designed to help our cus-
tomers address these challenges head on
by incorporating unique intelligence and
fraud methodologies with the power to
identify threats and perform comprehen-
sive investigations.”
System reliability
Verint EdgeVMS helps reduce video
data loss by increasing system re-
siliency. Onboard storage provided by an
SD card helps ensure video data is pro-
tected at all times, even in the event of
network downtime. When the IT back-
bone comes back online, the Verint so-
lution automatically recovers the video
from the SD card, enabling comprehen-
sive network reliability.
HD-over-Coax
HD-over-Coax is a new analog high-
definition (HD) video standard
that transmits over coaxial cable. Verint
now offers this technology via its Ed-
geVMS platform, enabling customers to
implement an HD system using the same
coax cables that an analog system runs
on, lowering the total cost of ownership.
HD-over-Coax installs just like analog
cameras and provides up to 1080p HD
for improved video quality.
Real-time visibility for operational readiness
Customers now have the option to
extend real-time visibility for op-
erational readiness within the EdgeVMS
software. This feature takes monitoring
beyond just the EdgeVR and IP cam-
eras to the network switch and storage
systems. By adding Verint’s integrated
network switch, enhanced intelligence
comes to life with a myriad of advanced
reporting capabilities.
Centralized operations to enhance investigations
Centralized Data Services, a powerful
feature now incorporated within Ed-
geVMS, allows customers to strengthen
intelligence gathering, streamline inves-
tigations and centralize fraud mitigation.
With this functionality, Verint is redefin-
ing the way clients capture transaction
data by automatically associating video
data with specific front-end activities.
This means, customers can capture all
transactions per location, ATM and teller
window from an operations center and
make decisions based on company-wide
data. In addition, fraud investigators can
search all sites for transaction and video
data based on customized settings, in-
cluding date, time and transaction num-
ber, account number, dollar amount, type
of transaction, location, camera name,
and terminal and employee ID.
Availability of mobile video App for Android devices
Verint Mobile Video™ helps trans-
form smart devices into mobile
video surveillance and response tools.
Now available in iOS and Android ver-
sions, customers can gain access to live
and recorded video from any mobile
device. They also can stream video and
share live images, enabling faster, more
intelligent decision-making in routine
patrols or emergency events.

With the Panomera® multifocal
sensor system, Dallmeier dem-
onstrated the latest technology for air-

fair. Panomera® is a patented camera
technology, which was specially devel-
oped to enable comprehensive video
surveillance of expansive areas. The
multifocal sensor technology makes it
possible to display wide expanses as
well as long distances in unequalled
resolution quality, in real time and at
high frame rates of up to 30fps – and
the area can be monitored from a sin-
gle location. An outstanding feature of
the system is its unique combination of
an overall view with simultaneous high
detail resolution at every distance. One
Panomera® with eight sensors can re-
place as many as 35 standard megapix-
el cameras.
This offers many advantages for
airport security, whether on take-off
or landing runways, the taxiways and
hangars, the terminal buildings and
baggage handling systems, car parks
or access roads. At airports, huge
premises with a variety of areas must
be monitored around the clock. The
multifocal sensor technology provides
a comprehensive overview of all activ-
ity around the airport and airfield. Be-
sides the documentation of take-offs
and landings, queues of aircraft at the
runway, cargo and goods during load-
ing or repairs and construction works
can be fully documented and checked.
In addition, debris or parts on the run-
way or the aircraft taxiways or fatigue
cracks on the runway can be detected
reliably.
In conjunction with intelligent vid-
eo analysis and management systems,
the monitoring of all landside and air-
side areas contributes significantly to
the overall safety and security of visi-
tors and passengers as well as main-
taining smooth operations across the
airport. Since security personnel are
provided with a comprehensive over-
view of the entire airport, regardless of
where their individual focus may be at
any given time, they can react quickly
to any incidents. Video technology can
therefore assist airports with the im-
plementation of the Europe-wide opti-
misation concept of Airport Collabo-

Axis Communications introduces
its new AXIS D2050-VE Network
Radar Detector. Radar technology is
used for accurate and reliable area de-
tection of moving objects in a variety of
light and weather conditions. It is a good
complement to cameras with video mo-
tion detection and can be used to track
moving objects with PTZ cameras. Ra-
dar also allows for a wide area to be cov-
ered whilst thermal cameras are more
suitable for long perimeter protection.
Developed primarily for medium-sized
industrial installations, the product is
designed to integrate with Axis cameras
and video management systems (VMS)
– in addition to surveillance systems and
VMS from other major vendors.
Vandal-proof and suitable for out-
door use, AXIS D2050-VE can deliver
real-time information about the posi-
tion, speed, angle, and size of a moving
object. With a longer range than passive
infrared sensors, it covers a wide field of
detection, while minimizing the num-
ber of false alarms triggered by spiders,
small animals, moving shadows and
light reflections. The radar motion detec-
tor can be set to trigger camera record-
ing, activate a horn speaker, or switch
on a light for deterrence and improved
visibility on camera.
Axis’ network radar detector can be
used as a standalone product or as part
of a surveillance system. Thanks to its
open interface, it is compatible with
Axis cameras and can be easily integrat-
ed with Axis Camera Station and Axis
Camera Management software – as well
as other video management systems –
for straightforward management and
maintenance.
“Radar closes a gap as it offers good
area coverage, detects movement with
high accuracy, and reduces false alarms”
explains Andres Vigren, Global Product

Introduction
Safeguarding outdoor assets in a reli-
able and cost-effective manner often
comes down to a single requirement –
accurate intruder alerts and timely infor-
mation about the unfolding event. While
there are many technologies available
for outdoor security, smart cameras with
video analytics have emerged as the so-
lution of choice for detecting intruders
in real time outdoors.
Yet the best technology will be hand-
icapped if the alerts generated cannot be
trusted. Repeated false alarms can even-
tually condition security operators to ig-
nore real intrusions, undermining trust
in the perimeter security system.
In most cases the shortsighted
response is to single out the security
force as scapegoats, which ignores
the real problem – alert fatigue. Af-
ter responding to hundreds of perim-
eter breach alarms that turn out to be
nothing more than small animals or
windblown branches, even the most
conscientious security guards lose
confidence in the system and start to
ignore its warnings.
There is no longer any reason for
this situation to exist. This design
guide relates how smart video security
technology, when properly deployed
according to best practices, can cost-
effectively protect outdoor assets with
high accuracy and low nuisance alerts
to help security forces stop intruders
before they act.
Start with the best detection: Use smart thermal cameras
Viable outdoor security must start
with a sensing system that is ac-
curate, 24-hours per day. For this rea-
son, conventional wisdom asserts that
smart thermal cameras are the best sys-
tem for detecting intruders outdoors.
This is because thermal cameras see
heat rather than light, so they are a per-
fect ‘human detector,’ and will ignore
headlights, reflections off water, and
other light-based activity, expanding
their usefulness from their traditional
role as night vision cameras to 24-hour
intrusion detection solutions.
Smart thermal cameras with built-
in video analytic software offers several
advantages:
● They detect in the dark with no need
for costly artificial lighting.
● They work 24 hours/ day.
● They ignore reflections, shadows,
moving headlights, direct sunlight,
and other light-based phenomena
that can trigger alarms in a visible
camera detection system.
● Because humans give off heat, ther-
mal sensors are far more effective in
spotting a person than visible cam-
eras.
● They detect body heat as far away as
600 meters – a third of a mile.
● A single thermal camera can protect
an area the size of a football field.
● Proper physical design makes them
immune to the effects of weather and
other environmental factors.
In the past, the higher price for
thermal technology limited their use in
commercial applications, but as costs
continue to fall, many organizations are
now able to choose thermal cameras as
the foundation for their outdoor detec-
tion applications.

Figure 1: Geo-registration gives smart cameras depth perception
Figure 2: With geo-registered From-To Zones, alarms are only triggered when objects meet size rules that pass through both zones
Geo-registration and detection accuracy
Smart thermal cameras are designed
to detect movement, but outdoors,
everything moves. A smart camera must
be able to tell the difference between
small objects such as leaves or debris
and a person entering a secured area.
One of the best ways for a camera to
make this determination is through ‘geo-
registration’ which provides the actual
location and true size of all pixels in the
camera’s field of view.
Consider how human vision works:
Our eyes give us depth perception
– we can tell which object is close and
which is far. But a ‘one-eyed’ camera
can’t, unless it’s geo-registered. For ex-
ample, a small animal near the camera
will look much larger than a man at 300
meters away. (Figure 1)
A smart camera needs to ignore the
animal at right while alerting on the dis-
tant person, even though the animal will
cover more of the camera’s field of view.
The same approach applies to blowing
trash, clouds, and other moving things
which are always present outdoors. With
a camera that is geo-registered, such
non-security related movement will be
ignored and will not send alarms.
Essentially, geo-registration ena-
bles a three-dimensional capability for
a smart thermal camera. From this in-
formation, geospatial analytic rules can
be used to eliminate movement based on
size while still detecting human-sized
intruders under all conditions.
Geo-registered analytics in action: From-to Zones
Motion zones are often used by
video analytic systems to detect
the movement of objects and to send an
alert to notify security that an intruder
has been detected. By default, any ob-
ject moving within a motion zone trig-
gers an alarm. However, when used for
outdoor applications, motion zones can
lead to an abundance of nuisance alerts
because they lack the discriminating
intelligence to recognize the differ-
ence between ‘unimportant’ movement
caused by the natural environment and
‘relevant’ movement that represents a
security threat.
Cameras that are geo-registered
can create more intelligent rules called
From-To Zones, an important tool for
reducing nuisance alerts while maintain-
ing a high probability of detection.
Targets detected in a From-To Zone
will only trigger an alarm when a spe-
cifically sized object – such as a person
– moves from one zone into another de-
fined area of the camera’s field of view.
Correspondingly, objects that are not
detected coming from one zone into the
other are ignored.
From-To Zones are a very power-
ful method for reducing unwarranted
alarms. Importantly, they can be con-
figured to detect zones that are geo-
registered to the ground. This means
From-To Zones will only alarm when
a person’s feet have been in the ‘From’
and then enter the ‘To’ area, while ig-
noring detections that only show a part
of a person such as their head. This is
particularly useful when the security
area includes a fence, and you only
want to detect pedestrians who have
crossed over the perimeter into the se-
curity zone.
To see how From-To Zones work
in the real world, consider an applica-
C M Y K
C M Y K

white paper
tion where you need to detect pedestri-
ans approaching the perimeter, but are
not concerned about people leaving the
building.
With From-To Zones, the camera
will only trigger an alert when intrud-
ers move towards the facility – ignoring
everyone else, and greatly reducing un-
necessary alarms.
For another example, consider a
windy perimeter around an active con-
struction site where trash blows around
the scene. Inevitably, the trash will col-
lect along the fence and grow in size un-
til it is large enough to trigger an alarm.
When geospatial From-To Zones are
employed, the smart camera will ignore
the individual pieces of trash that did
not move from one zone to the other. It
will also ignore the large collection of
trash along the fence, even if it matches
a size rule, because the camera will
have already determined the actual size
of each piece of trash as it traversed the
field of view.
To take advantage of this powerful
functionality, choose cameras that are
geo-registered as a core feature.
Eliminate camera movement with stabilization
Many intrusion detection systems
are deployed along open areas
that are naturally impacted by high
winds or vibrations from planes, trains,
weather and machinery. Without image
stabilization, these applications can be
overwhelmed by nuisance alarms or
worse, outright misdetects. It is difficult
for smart cameras to detect movement
in a scene when the whole field of view
is also moving from camera shake.
For indoor surveillance applica-
tions, such camera shake is rarely a
problem. In the outdoors, where cam-
eras are mounted high on poles, even a
slight wind or vibration can cause nui-
sance alarms.
The best way to overcome the im-
pact from wind or vibrations is to
choose smart cameras that stabilize
the image electronically, before the
video analytic rules are applied. Look
for cameras that use electronic or gyro-
based stabilizers as a foundation for
their detection capabilities.
Avoid server based video analytics outdoors
If its imager is a thermal camera’s
eyes, image processing is its brain.
It is image processing that turns what
is essentially a passive surveillance tool
into an active security device, detecting
motion and recognizing targets under
any conditions.
Cameras which employ both a
high degree of image processing and
on-board video analytics have a great
advantage in accuracy and detection
distance over solutions that employ
analytics on a server, outside of the
camera.
For one, cameras without embed-
ded analytics must compress the video
data for transmission over the network.
That’s a problem because compression
removes most of the finer scene de-
tails – up to 99% of the original data
– seriously degrading a video analytic
system’s ability to accurately detect
and recognize targets. In fact, on days
with restricted visibility due to rain or
fog, data compression has caused smart
cameras to miss virtually all intruders
in a scene.
On the other hand, when the un-
compressed imagery is processed in the
camera, 100% of the raw scene data is
available for analysis. With on-board
image processors examining the full
visual detail of every video frame, you
can achieve a much greater degree of
accuracy in detecting motion and rec-
ognizing potential threats.
Integrating the imager directly with
the video analytics – inside the camera
enclosure, with a high degree of pro-
cessing the edge – is the cornerstone of
a smart camera’s ability to accurately
detect targets in the outdoor environ-
ment.
Strategies to increase probability of detection
Smart video systems are a great way
to protect outdoor assets, but the
system has little value if people can en-
ter a secured area undetected. Here are
some pointers to avoid gaps in cover-
age and make sure your system detects
every time.
Determine your camera’s true detection range
A perimeter security system based
on video analytics operates by
‘seeing’ targets that move into a cam-
era’s detection area; knowing the cam-
era’s true range lets design a depend-
able system with no coverage gaps.
Unfortunately some manufacturers
specify camera ranges that overstate
their detection capabilities. This means
it’s up to the integrator to determine
the camera’s true detection distances;
otherwise your perimeter solution may
leave gaping holes that can allow in-
truders to pass through undetected.
The best practice to determine
a camera’s true detection range is to
measure the farthest distance at which
the camera can automatically detect a
person walking ‘inbound’ or directly
toward the camera, as shown in Figure
3. Inbound detection is always less than
crossfield because a person moving

white paper
Figure 4: Covering each blind spot eliminates gaps in coverage
Figure 3: Inbound targets determine a camera’s true detection distance
across the camera’s field of view cre-
ates a larger amount of motion, which
is easier to detect. In contrast, a person
walking toward the camera produces
very little motion, making the target
more difficult to detect. In the real
world, intruders can enter a perimeter
from any direction, so it’s important to
design the system for all situations.
Adjusting for challenging weather environments
For a conservative design that allows
smart camera to detect reliably in
less-than ideal conditions, it’s a good
idea to de-rate the distances to 80% of
a smart camera’s normal inbound detec-
tion range. In areas of extreme weather
and heavy fog, further de-rating may be
advised.
At one time such de-rating was cost
prohibitive, but now that thermal cam-
era prices have fallen so dramatically,
and there is no longer a large cost dif-
ference between longer- and shorter-
range smart cameras such an approach
makes good security and good business
sense.
Cover the blind spot
A camera’s field of view doesn’t be-
gin where it’s mounted. Instead it
can only detect at a measurable distance
in front – this is the blind spot. Every
security camera has a blind spot, and
this must be considered in the perim-
eter security design, or someone will be
able to walk right under a camera un-
detected.
Some outdoor surveillance designs
will narrow a security camera’s field of
view to increase the camera’s detection
distance in an effort to decrease costs.
This is not necessarily a bad concept,
but it’s important to understand that do-
ing so also makes the blind spot under
the camera larger, sometimes doubling
the number of cameras required.
To provide complete coverage, the
view of each camera must be designed
to cover the adjacent camera’s blind
spot, as shown in Figure 4.
Perimeter design software can help
Some manufacturers offer design
tools that can help you model a
camera layout using a Google map of
the area under consideration. This is a
good practice to check detection dis-
tances ahead of time and ensure that
blind spots are properly addressed.
SightLogix offers such a tool, called
SightSurvey.
Conclusion
Today’s smart video is an ideal so-
lution to the new challenges in
site protection that confront security
professionals. It
outperforms older
technologies by
a wide margin. It
often costs less.
Installation is less
disruptive, and
the technology is
highly reliable. Essentially, a smart
video security system is a force multi-
plier, taking the burden of monotonous
surveillance off regular security staff.
Instead of just watching endless video
feeds, the staff gets information that
lets them do their jobs better. When de-
ployed using best practices of product
selection and installation, smart ther-
mal video is the obvious choice for out-
door site security applications.

Krakow is the second largest and
one of the oldest cities in Poland
and the International Conference and
Entertainment Centre (ICE) Krakow is
the business and cultural flagship of this
beautiful city. The stunning view from
the ICE provides its visitors a glance at
some of Krakow’s most famous land-
marks. The ICE hosts conferences, ex-
hibitions, parties, seminars and concerts
big and small, with audiences ranging
from a few dozen to several thousand.
The changing space arrangements and
the wide range of different events pose
challenges to assuring audiences are
safe and secure at all times while enjoy-
ing best sound and acoustics.
Its larger venues present a special
challenge to designers of evacuation
systems. On the one hand, the sound
coming from the evacuation speakers
must be loud and intelligible to inform
every guest clearly as to what he/she
should do. On the other hand, the speak-
ers should be unobtrusive, blending into
the background rather than in-
fluencing the feel of the perfor-
mance or audience space.
In Krakow, designers found
the right mix – thanks to hemi-
spheric loudspeakers from
Bosch, which are part of a Bosch
Praesideo Public Address and
Voice Evacuation system. As
a technician puts it: “If we had
deployed standard loudspeakers
for the evacuation system, we
would have needed quite a few
to establish an even sound coverage for
the entire building. By using the hemi-
spheric ones placed underneath the roof,
five loudspeakers were enough to do the
job, blending in discreetly with the room
aesthetics.” The evacuation system was
just one part of a comprehensive secu-
rity and communications package at ICE
built by Bosch. Almost the complete
range of Bosch’s security and communi-
cation system portfolio is installed: not
just evacuation, but also fire detection,
video surveillance, public address, in-
trusion alarms, access control as well as
conferencing systems.
The video surveillance in the facil-
ity is based on Bosch Video Manage-
ment System as well as different types
of cameras. Some of the cameras are the

All of them were in top form for
an extraordinary event that convened
for ten full days in July: the United Na-
tions’ annual Convention for the Pro-
tection of World Cultural and Natural
Heritage. This is the group that nomi-
nates places to be protected as areas of
great cultural or natural significance,
such as Stonehenge, Glacier Bay or the
Great Barrier Reef.
Attending the UNESCO
meeting were 1,966 dele-
gates, another 1,000 service-
providers and journalists
and some 700 police and
security agents. Nearly 50
‘side events’ accompanied
the 35 main meetings held
at the ICE, over 20,000 pub-
lications were used, and the
audio-visual systems were
– understandably – in
heavy use.
At the heart of the multi-lin-
gual communication, managing
simultaneous interpretations, was
an advanced conferencing solu-
tion from Bosch, with the Integrus
language distribution system and
the DCN conferencing solution
(receivers for up to 1,500 partici-
pants). As one of the technicians
noted, these provide great flexibil-
ity, covering multiple rooms and
allowing easy switches from one room
to the other.
Also, critical to smooth operation
of the event was access control. In to-
day’s tense political climate, security
must be tight not only within the venue,
but outside in the access and parking
areas. Bosch’s systems helped support
and coordinate this, without ICE need-
ing to lay on more guards and security
agents.

dome cameras in the Wisenet lineup,
SND-6084 (Wisenet III) and SND-
L6083R (Wisenet Lite) are installed.
Both models are small interior dome-
type cameras that do not clash with
the interior or make patients or visitors
uncomfortable, and they are capable of
transferring stable compressed video in
Full HD resolution.
In particular, SND-6084 supports
the P-Iris function, which is capable of
monitoring far and near objects clearly,
allowing for prompt response to po-
tential accidents indoors. The SND-
L6083R includes a Hallway View func-
tion that provides an image with vertical
expansion utilizing the 9:16 ratio which
optimizes monitoring performance even
in narrow passages such as hallways
connecting treatment rooms and wards.
At hospital entrances, lobbies with
revolving doors, products capable of
fast monitoring over large areas were
required due to the large floating popu-
lation. SNP-6320 and SNP-6320RH are
32x (4.44 - 142.6mm) network cameras
with a powerful zoom and a fast lens rev-
olution speed which are ideal for moni-
toring such areas.
Equipped with IR LED, SNP-
6320RH minimizes blind spots as it can
identify targets even in areas with lim-
ited or nearly no light, making it ideal
for underground parking lot entrances
and isolated building area applications.

A staff of SMC stated, “We’ve been
using Hanwha Techwin’s security
products since the hospital’s opening.
Many other companies have been con-
sidered as candidates whenever a system
renewal is required since the time when
analog products were used, but we have
chosen to use products and solutions
from Hanwha Techwin up to pre-
sent day.” The staff further added,
“As the hospital is massive, even
employees take months to become
fully familiar with its structure. It
is key to be able to properly moni-
tor and manage this massive area.
So, good performance is a must.
It is the foundation for everything.
As Hanwha Techwin has a prod-
uct lineup with variable products
and a reliable A/S system, it is
one of the first companies we con-
sider when a system renewal is
required.”

As the four seasons hotel and private
residences One Dalton Street rises
to claim its place on the Boston skyline,
with details inside the building also tak-
ing form. One Dalton developer, Rich-
ard L. Friedman, President and CEO,
Carpenter & Company, set out to find
the most innovative companies in the
security industry, for tasking them with
developing a plan for Boston’s tallest
residential building.
The result of Friedman’s search is
three key partnerships: former Head of
the U.S. Secret Service Mark Sullivan,
now principal and co-founder of Global
Security & Innovative Strategies (GSIS);
Evolv Technology; and industry-leading
video management software company
Milestone Systems.
“We plan to offer luxury in all
forms at One Dalton, everything from
24-hour room service and a stellar spa
to a seamless and safe security plan. As
always, we are looking ahead for the
ideas and technology that will continue
to set our building apart and make liv-
ing at One Dalton a premier experience
on every level. Partnering with GSIS,
Evolv Technology and Milestone Sys-
tems is really next-level thinking for
us,” Friedman said.
Friedman met Mark Sullivan dur-
ing President Bill Clinton’s visits to
his house on Martha’s Vineyard. After
Sullivan concluded his federal service,
he co-founded GSIS, a company that
leverages its extensive private and
public sector, homeland and public
security, and international expertise to
provide comprehensive solutions for
its clients. Sullivan has been tasked
to oversee the security plan for One
Dalton which includes security as-
sessments, design, implementation
and advisory services. On Sullivan’s
recommendation, One Dalton is incor-
porating cutting-edge technology from
Evolv Technology and Milestone Sys-
tems to provide a superior surveillance
system.
Evolv Technology is a technology
startup founded by Boston-based secu-
rity and technology veterans Mike El-
lenbogen and Anil Chitkara. Focused
on rethinking physical security, Evolv
uses advanced sensing and deep learn-
ing to ensure a threat-free environment
while balancing the everyday pace of
life. Evolv’s flexible, risk-based screen-
ing approach fulfills the needs of state-
of-the-art facilities like One Dalton. The
company’s experienced leaders, along-
side an advisory board of security vet-
erans from the Department of Homeland
Security, CIA, TSA and the U.S. Secret
Service have created products designed
to address today’s emerging threats. One
Dalton will be the first residential build-
ing to utilize Evolv’s revolutionary tech-
nology.
It was a natural fit to have Milestone
Systems, the world-leading provider
of open platform IP video manage-
ment software (VMS), as part of this
exceptional team. The company’s solu-
tions increase overall safety and opti-
mal operations through comprehensive
management and distribution of digital
video data. High performance network
video recorders and the video monitor-
ing software platform can be tailored
to meet the demands of any complex
security installation. Its open architec-
ture enables ongoing integrations with
new technology innovations as they
come to the market.
“One Dalton is one of a few elite
buildings worldwide to embrace change
and incorporate technology that will
provide the best life for its hotel guests
and residents. Public venues have been
working to improve security for some
time; this is a remarkable and intelligent
investment for a residential develop-
ment,” Sullivan said.
The final plan has yet to be deter-
mined, but One Dalton will begin by
improving upon the common back-of-
house security operations that are typi-
cally used in hotels and residential build-
ings. Surveillance of common areas and
public spaces using Milestone Systems
integrated with event security through
Evolv Technology and employee screen-
ing are among the solutions being con-
sidered.
“For us, this is part of a long view on
security for One Dalton. As technology
improves and we learn more about ex-
actly what our residents and hotel guests
want and need, we will introduce new el-
ements that ensure all who spend time at
One Dalton feel relaxed, safe and cared

Honeywell has recently introduced
an enhanced version of Honeywell
digital video manager (DVM) that offers
smarter security and surveillance capa-
bilities for today’s increasingly complex
building environments. The new release,
DVM R620, enables organizations to
more easily secure large-scale security
operations with features that improve
operator efficiency and situational
awareness for faster incident identifica-
tion and resolution, and power more ac-
curate and reliable security operations.
DVM R620 is well suited for a range
of facilities including complex security
installations with stringent requirements
such as airports, correctional facilities,
hospitals, higher education campuses,
and smart cities. It features an enhanced
user interface and includes major up-
dates to how operators can capture,
access and manage live and recorded
video, reliably and efficiently. Based on
a highly available distributed architec-
ture, the system features edge recording
playback and backfill capabilities, cap-
turing video footage on camera memory
cards, and then backfilling the footage
to the system’s main server. These fea-
tures make the system more resilient in
response to interruptions ranging from
routine system maintenance, to network
or server failures and cybersecurity is-
sues, and ensure cameras more consist-
ently and reliably capture video footage,
wherever they are located.
In addition, DVM R620 includes an
improved and more intuitive user inter-
face and features that improve the user
experience, making it easier to learn and
operate, which helps improve operator
productivity for faster incident response.
New productivity features include book-
marking, which lets operators easily an-
notate and navigate video footage. This
enables faster footage identification
and retrieval for evidentiary purposes –
critical in today’s security environments,
which can include thousands of cameras
capturing hours of footage.
“As buildings become smarter, driv-
en by trends like the Internet of Things
and the increasingly connected world,
security operations must follow suit.
This can be a tall order, however, when
you consider the scope and size of to-
day’s connected organizations – and the
number of cameras and other endpoints
personnel must manage,” said Aseem
Joshi, Country General Manager, Hon-
eywell Building Solutions, India, “DVM
R620 serves as a conduit for improved
operator productivity and risk mitiga-
tion, leveraging connectivity for smarter
surveillance that can more easily grow
and expand as needs change and evolve.”
DVM R620 also supports open
standards like the Open Network Video
Interface Forum (ONVIF) standard,
driving deeper levels of interoperabil-
ity and connectivity so organizations
can more easily integrate an even wider
range of video cameras and third-party
systems like analytics as they adapt to
changing security threats.
In addition to improved resiliency,
usability and interoperability, DVM
R620 enables organizations to:
● Seamlessly authenticate video foot-
age: When exporting video for evi-
dence purposes, operators can add
watermarks or use digital signatures
to prove video authenticity and its
source, reducing the need for third-
party applications.
● Keep footage secure: DVM R620 ex-
ports footage in password-protected
files to promote safety and security.

● Use network and hardware re-
sources more efficiently: The sys-
tem uses a lower resolution for video
streams, freeing up valuable network
bandwidth and requiring less from
individual monitors for decompress-
ing and video rendering. As a result,
organizations can lower hardware
costs and view more cameras within
a single view.
DVM is a component of Hon-
eywell Enterprise Buildings Integra-
tor (EBI), an award-winning building
management system that ties all as-
pects of a security solution together,
including video surveillance, access
control, and intrusion detection. EBI
also integrates comfort, life safety, en-
ergy and other core facility controls,
providing users a single point of ac-
cess to the essential information and
resources needed to monitor, manage
and protect a facility, campus or mul-
ti-site operation. As a result, security
operators have improved visibility and
intelligence, and the ability to deploy
their staff and resources more effi-
ciently and effectively.
DVM and EBI are designed to work
with systems from Honeywell Home
and Building Technologies, which cre-
ates products, software and technologies
found in more than 10 million buildings
worldwide. Its connected buildings ser-
vices help make facilities more comfort-
able, intuitive and productive.

IndigoVision and Canberra Centre in
Australia have an ongoing business
relationship dating back to 2006 when
IndigoVision was first selected for their
knowledge in IP security.
In July 2017 the Canberra Centre
expanded their already sizeable mall in
the heart of Canberra’s CBD, with the
Monaro Mall precinct, named in recog-
nition of the original Monaro Mall that
opened on the same site in 1963. With
the addition of the Monaro Mall precinct
the Canberra Centre needed to expand
their existing security solution to meet
the growing demands of retail business-
es which include visibility and situation
awareness across entrances, exits and
main mall concourses.
Solution
IndigoVision Partner H3C Plus en-
sured that the solution for the Mon-
aro Mall would integrate seamlessly

The Manchester-Boston Regional Air-
port faced a lengthy decision-making
process when it came to security camera
manufacturers, requiring products able to
support the unique applications and varied
environment of the airport. The security
team monitored a range of spaces both in
and outdoors, and required products that
excelled under all of the varying situations
and lighting conditions. The selected cam-
eras needed to provide full high definition
video across multiple open areas, while
also delivering detailed, close-up images
within busy, crowded spaces.
The airport’s FAA grant included
stipulations regarding the types of prod-
ucts that could be purchased with the
supplied funds, specifying that the se-
lected system must qualify under the
‘Buy American’ standard. This provision
meant that all potential selections not
only meet the technical requirements,
but also be Made in USA.
The process
After a year of exploring the market,
the client determined that Arecont
Vision was the only manufacturer that
not only satisfied the ‘Buy American’
stipulation, but did so without sacrific-
ing the airport’s fundamental security
requirements by providing a wide range
of high resolution megapixel cameras.
Once Manchester-Boston Regional
Airport chose Arecont Vision cameras as
the foundation for their security system,
they began to collaborate with On-Net
Surveillance Systems, Inc. (OnSSI) to sup-
ply the video management system (VMS).
OnSSI is an Arecont Vision Technology
Partner Program member, with many joint
customers around the world, demonstrat-
ing proven integration between the two
company’s products and support services.
Securadyne Systems was selected as the
systems integrator.
The Arecont Vision SurroundVideo®
multi-sensor camera series piqued the
security team’s interest for its 180°
panoramic capabilities. The placement
of SurroundVideo cameras was made to
provide comprehensive coverage.
For locations that required a sin-
gle coverage view, the security team
chose cameras from the Arecont Vision
MegaDome® series, which are equipped
with a wide range of innovative features
such as low light capabilities, and remote
focus and zoom which all proved crucial to
the airport’s requirements. Casino Mode™
is available in the 1080p versions of the
MegaDome series, a feature that proved
to be as useful at the Manchester-Boston
TSA checkpoints as it is in a Las Vegas ca-
sino. Casino Mode guarantees 30 frames
per second to capture every detail on fast-
action applications, an incredibly effective
tool when investigating security situations
involving many complex, small move-
ments for both live and forensic viewing.
The result
Manchester-Boston Regional Air-
port has installed over one hun-
dred and fifty Arecont Vision cameras,
and the video surveillance system is
continuing to grow. The latest installa-
tion of Arecont Vision products includ-
ed the lower level of a parking garage
as well as a newly renovated passenger
checkpoint area. SurroundVideo 180°
cameras were utilized in the latter situa-
tion due to the client’s satisfaction with
stitching together images from multiple
180°s. Paul Mueller, Manchester-Bos-
ton Regional Airport’s Security Man-
ager stated, “We were sure to go back to
Arecont Vision during this process. We
have had a good working relationship
with them for the past five years, and
they enable us to use less cameras while
still maintaining full view of inspection
areas.”
When asked if there are any specific
incidents in which Arecont Vision cam-
eras proved useful, Mr. Mueller respond-
ed, “Every other day we use the cameras
to investigate criminal or worker con-
cerns. We go back and monitor them for
possible safety issues on the ramps, for
passenger interaction, and for worker in-
teractions. Anytime someone expresses
a concern to me, they can come in and
we can watch the footage together. I
try to make sure that the option to view
footage is fairly transparent, which has
proved very useful to everyone.”
Arecont Vision cameras are moni-
tored 24/7 in the airport’s communica-
tions center. Primary views are displayed
and monitored all the time, while others
can be pulled up and played back as is-
sues arise. The system also allows for
particular divisions within the Manches-
ter-Boston Regional Airport to monitor
cameras that are applicable to their work
such as in the parking garage.

Founded in France, Carrefour is one of the largest hyper-
market chains in the world, and one of the popular hy-
permarkets in the region.
In order to create a safe and comfortable shopping envi-
ronment, the Carrefour Hypermarket in Deira Dubai chose
Uniview video surveillance solution. More than 200 UNV
IP cameras are installed in and around the mall, covering
the whole shopping areas, including the stairs, the eleva-
tors and the cashiers etc. UNV NVR516 is used for man-
agement and storage. Six decoders and one keyboard are
adopted in the solution as well. With UNV VMS – EZSta-
tion, security managers are able to oversee the whole areas
in the central control room.
HighlightsHighleveldatasafety:redundantdesignandRAIDNVR
In order to keep the system working with highest safety
level, NVR516 provides redundant power supply in case of
electricity failure. For data storage, NVR516 provides dif-
ferent redundant arrays of independent disks like RAID 0,
1, 5, 6, 10. Even if one of the HDD is broken by chance,
NVR can prevent the data missing and rebuild RAID within
a short time. In the Carrefour Hypermarket solution, 3 piec-
es of NVR516 are used, out of which 2 are used for storage,
and the third one is regarded as back-up NVR, which en-
sures the whole system remains running in the most stable
and reliable way.
Ease of use: User-friendly EZStation system
With casual and ever changing staff, it requires the op-
erations to be simple so that no extra training is needed
when someone else is accessing the system. Uniview has
fine-tuned the GUI and the EZStation to be user friendly
and intuitive.
Functionality: smart functions
UNV NVR and camera support intrusion detection. By
setting a restricted area beforehand, it can detect if any-
one enters the restricted zone at any time and can send an
alarm. It is especially useful to prevent theft at night when
the hypermarket is closed. With a massive people flow in
hypermarkets like Carrefour, people counting function is
especially usefuls. Hence, managers can reasonably reor-
ganize employees’ working time so as to save cost. Moreo-
ver, when searching video record, UNV NVR516 enables
security staffs to search quickly with smart search func-
tions. All of these smart functions bring great convenience
to customers.

The city of Tampere is located in
south-west Finland, approximately
175 kilometres north-west of Helsinki.
The third-largest city in Finland is situ-
ated between two lakes and is the most
populous inland city in Scandinavia with
around 225,000 inhabitants.
Important healthcare provider
Tampere University Hospital is re-
sponsible for the comprehensive
provision of healthcare in the city and
its wider surroundings. The hospital of-
fers complex, specialist care services
for a region where around one million
Finns live. The services on offer cover
virtually all medical disciplines, from
emergency care all the way through to
rehabilitation. In addition to outstand-
ing care, Tampere University Hospital
also provides training and conducts re-
search.
Building for the future
In order to be able to meet future treat-
ment needs, Tampere University Hos-
pital is currently being renovated and ex-
panded. A total of 40,000 m2 of floor space
in three existing wings is being renovated,
whilst four additional buildings and an
underground car park covering a total of
98,000 m2 are being newly built. Securi-
ton was commissioned with protecting the
computer and telecommunications rooms
and power supply systems with Securi-
RAS ASD 532 aspirating smoke detec-
tors. These are among the world’s most
precise and most reliable early warning
systems for fires. The SecuriRAS ASD
532 is designed for medium-sized appli-
cations and – in addition to applications
such as those in Tampere – is also ideally
suited for use in lift shafts, laboratories
and similar areas. The ASD 532 has the
same technical equipment as the more
powerful SecuriRAS ASD 535 aspirating
smoke detector, except that it
has only one sampling pipe
and a more compact fan.
The installation of a high-
quality safety solution is al-
ways a matter of the heart
for the employees involved at
Securiton. This was especially
the case when it came to the
assignment at Tampere Uni-
versity Hospital.

Hogarth Worldwide, a fast-growing
global marketing implementation
agency, has enhanced its StorNext®-
powered storage environment with an
Xcellis® workflow storage system, in-
cluding QXS™ high-performance disk.
Providing independent performance and
capacity scaling – as well as low-cost,
long-term content preservation – the
end-to-end storage solution has enabled
Hogarth to maintain a highly efficient
and collaborative production operation
as its business continues to grow around
the world.
Remarkable growth demands swift scalability
Working closely with ad depart-
ments in major corporations
and with creative agencies, Hogarth
produces advertising and other market-
ing communications content across all
media and all languages. The agency
relies on StorNext to support efficient
delivery of high-quality services includ-
ing broadcast, print and digital produc-
tion, postproduction, CGI and language
localization.
“One constant since Hogarth’s early
days has been Quantum’s StorNext,”
said Nick Wood, Production Systems
Manager at Hogarth, “We started con-
verting Xsan environments to StorNext
very early to take advantage of its flexi-
bility, performance and scale, and it ena-
bled our teams to collaborate on projects
while working on any platform – Mac,
Linux or Windows. Today, 12
of our offices already have
full StorNext environments
installed.
“With StorNext, we know
we can quickly add disk ca-
pacity for an office if the
workload sees a surge, and
we can expand the system al-
most instantaneously to add
more workstations. We’ve
had to do that – expand from
five or six workstations to 40
for a big project – and StorNext makes
it easy.”
While Hogarth’s technical infra-
structure and workflow have helped it
become one of the world’s top postpro-
duction houses, rapid growth – a dou-
bling of its staff in the past year – and
the frequent need to scale up quickly to
handle increasingly data-intensive pro-
jects necessitated an expansion of its
StorNext foundation.
StorNext powers flexible end-to-end workflow
Working with Quantum and inte-
grator-partner Trams, Hogarth
recently upgraded its environment with
a StorNext-powered Xcellis workflow
storage solution.
The new Xcellis system not only al-
lows the agency to scale performance
and capacity independently but also sup-
ports use of network-attached storage
(NAS) as part of the storage pool. The
actual transition to Xcellis took just a
couple of hours, with no impact on the
work or experience of Hogarth’s produc-
tion teams.
Reliability, performance and flexibility fuel efficiencies
Within the StorNext environment,
Hogarth has been able to lever-
age its existing investments across Mac,
Linux and Windows platforms while
taking advantage of multiple storage
tiers to optimize its use and expansion
of both storage performance and capac-
ity. StorNext’s industry-leading stream-
ing performance enables the agency to
maintain a highly efficient, collaborative
workflow with shorter design cycles.
“We are a real workflow company,
and StorNext provides the most flexible,
powerful end-to-end workflow system
available anywhere,” said Wood, “There
is no way we could have done what we
have without it.”
