Outdoor Non-Armoured Cable, PE Sheath
General Description:
These cables are used for the outdoor applications and comprise of 2 to 144 Fibers.
For cables with fibre counts ≤ 12, the cable structure is made up of the central PBT Loose Tube
containing the fibres and a thixotropic gel.
Aramid yarns are placed around the perimeter of the loose tube, to provide mechanical strength to the
cable. Finally an outer sheath of Anti-UV black PE, with a nominal radial thickness of 1.6mm is applied
over the Aramid yarns. One ripcord under outer sheath.
For cables with a fibre count >12, the cables are of stranded construction. The core structures and tube
colour codes are define in the below table.
Loose Tubes are manufactured from high strength, low shrinkage PBT Compound, and each tube will
contain up to 12 optical fibres and a thixotropic jelly, to prevent water penetration and protect the fibres
against shock. Fibre colour sequence is defined in the below table. For intermediate fibre counts Black PE
Fillers are substituted for loose tube where necessary to retain the cable shape.
The elements are SZ stranded around a non-metallic central strength member (FRP with coating if
necessary) and the formation retained with polyester binders. The cable core is of “dry core” design to
prevent ingress of water. Two water blocking yarns are applied over the central strength member (one
longitudinally and one helically). A water blocking tape is then longitudinally over the cable core and
retained with a helically applied binder.
Finally an outer sheath of Anti-UV black PE, with a nominal radial thickness of 1.7mm is applied over the
cable core. One ripcord under outer sheath.
Cable Marking:
It is proposed to print on the outer sheath of the cable with white colour ink or hot foil tape, sequential
markings every 1 meter intervals. (According to 3M formal order requirement)
