Each year the Department of Natural Resources compiles a list of the biggest whitetail racks tagged in the Prairie State. The Big Buck Recognition Program honors thousands of deer annually. Qualifying deer taken by firearm and archery hunters are scored by certified measurers, with standards set by the Boone and Crockett Club. To qualify, deer taken by firearm must reach a minimum score of 140 for a typi- cal rack and 160 for a nontypical rack. For archery hunters, including crossbow hunters, the minimum score is 115 for typical and 130 for nontypical antlers. Antlers must dry for at least 60 days before being scored officially.
