Surgeon Talk...Five surgeons were talking about the best patients...F i r s t s u r g e o n s a y s , "Accountants are the best to operate on because when y o u o p e n t h e m u p , everything on the inside is numbered."Second surgeon says, "Nah - librarians are the best. Everything inside them is in alphabetical order."Third surgeon responds, "Try electricians, man! Everything inside them is color coded!"Fourth surgeon intercedes," I pre fer lawyers .They ' re heartless, spineless, gutless, and their heads and butts are interchangeable."To which the fifth surgeon, w ho ha s b e e n q u i e t l y listening to the
conversation, says, "I like engineers. They always understand when you have a few parts left over at the end."
If General Motors Built Cars like Microsoft...
At a recent computer expo (COMDEX) , B i l l Ga tes reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated: "If GM had kep t up wi th t e c h n o l o g y l i k e t h e computer industry has, we would all be driving twenty-five dollar cars that got 1000 miles to the gallon." In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a p r e s s r e l e a s e s t a t i n g (supposedly by Mr. Welch himself): "Yes, but would
you want your car to crash twice a day?"Then others added these comments:1. Every time they repainted the lines on the road you would have to buy a new car.2. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason, and you would just accept this, restart and drive on.3. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to stop and fail and you would have to re-install the engine. For some strange reason, you would accept this too.4. You could only have one person in the car at a time, unless you bought Car95 or CarNT . But then you would have to buy more seats.5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast, twice as easy to drive, but would only run on five percent of the roads.6. The Macintosh car owners w o u l d g e t e x p e n s i v e Microsoft uprgrades to their cars, which would make their cars run much slower.7. The oil, gas and alternator warning lights would be replaced by a single "general car fault" warning light.8. New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt.9. The airbag system would say are you sure? before going off.10. If you were involved in a crash, you would have no idea what happened.11. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key, and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.12. GM would require all car
buyers to also purchase a deluxe set of Rand McNally road maps (now a GM subsidiary), even though they neither needed nor wanted them. Attempting to delete this option would
immediately cause the car's performance to diminish by 50% or more. Moreover, GM would become the target of investigation by the Justice Department.
14. You'd press the "start" button to shut off the engine.

MONUMENT
I recently had a experience from an appliance repair place. This past week I spent three days waiting for them and then they cam two hours late and they told me my snake wasn’t working and charged me $30. They said the part would be in but still I have not been taken care of.
If teachers want more money, I
feel they need to work all year not just 6 or 7 months and have all these paid vacation days. The support team are the ones that need the raise, they are the ones that are in t h e l u n c h r o o m , i n t h e c l a s s r o o m d o i n g t h e p a p e r w o r k a n d o n t h e playground with the kids. If I walked out I would lose my job. Maybe the same needs to
apply. Thank you Sound Off.
Trump is right about trade being one sided. The reason jobs are being moved out of our country is because we let other countries ship their products here almost tax free. Ask someone who has shipped something large like a car to another country from here and you would be surprised how much tax they have to pay when they get there. That is how they keep their jobs at home.
My neighbor has five cars registered in Florida. Another neighbor been driving three y e a r s w i t h a n a u t o advertisement tag. The laws need to be enforced; maybe the price would be less. No wonder we rank near the bottom.
In a national debate on school shootings, gun violence, the N R A a n d t h e S e c o n d Amendment, stories of how concealed weapons have saved lives would be part of
fair and objective reporting.
All this time everyone has been protesting at the capitols and to pol i t ic ians when quietly, the stores who sell assault weapons quit selling them on their own. Shouldn’t they have been protesting the stores all along?
It's strange that politicians can find money to arm our teachers but they can't find m o n e y t o e d u c a t e o u r children.
Saying that social media are to blame for the threats to area schools is like saying that the A.R. 15 is to blame for the Florida school shooting. Bad people are to blame.
We just came back from our walk around the DT area. Whoever the Trash Company is they are not doing a good job. There is trash along the curbs. Plastic cups, lids and candy wrappers / paper/ cardboard in parking lots. Trash bins are overflowing with trash and also outside the store fronts. Apparently this company does not blow all the pavements in front of stores out to the roads and then drive truck down to sweep up.
When I am driving the speed limit, then the lane I am in is irrelevant unless you are an emergency vehicle.
If taking your gun business else where just because a few retailers made a conscience decision to make us all a little s a f e r s a v e s e v e n o n e students life or any ones for that matter then I say kudos to the retailer. Our children’s lives are worth more than that.
I am a teacher and I can tell you we are very dedicated to our students, we work long after the 3 o’clock bel rings, are always searching for creative ideas to enhance our students learning capabilities and many times have second jobs during the summer so that we can have extra money to spend when it is time to create a fun and learning environment for our students
each year. We provide a warm smile and hope to many children who never or rarely receive this before heading to
school. We are the protectors, when we see that a child is showing signs of abuse, we are the first responders.
There are so many things that are not seen that teachers do because we do not need the gold star but we do want your
children to receive that gold star, be proud and achieve all goals. Thank you from a teacher.

This is the fifth news article of a series that will continue over the next few months.I hope your journey of making
Small Steps to Health and Wealth” continues this week as we “Commit to Making a Change”!
T h e f i r s t s t e p i n “Committing to Make a Change” is to be aware of what stage of change you are currently in. According to the Transtheoretical Model, there are five major stages of change. •At the pre-contemplation stage, people may not even be aware that a problem (e.g., high debt load and risk for diabetes) exists or that a change should be made in their lives. •At the contemplation stage, they gain knowledge about alternative behaviors and begin to understand ways to c h a n g e ( e . g . , r e d u c e spending and increase physical activity). •At the preparation stage, people seriously plan to make changes and gain required skills (e.g., taking a per-sonal finance course or v i s i t i n g t h e www.nutrition.gov web-site). •At the action stage, they “ take the p lunge” and actually change a behavior. •In the maintenance stage, people work to sustain their change and reap the rewards o f t h e i r e f f o r t s ( e . g . , decreased debt balance and improved blood-glucose levels). Commitment takes place
during the preparation stage of change. Here people acknowledge that “if it is to be, it’s up to me” and begin to develop a plan of action. Studies have found that “p lans to change” can predict actual changes. An example of a statement of commitment to change is “I will save $25 per week in a 401(k).” Another is “I will take two 600-mg calcium tablets with meals daily.” As people prepare to change their behaviors, they often seek “how to” information a n d a d v i c e . C o m m o n activities performed during the preparation stages of change are: enrolling in a c l a s s , c o n s u l t i n g a counselor, buying a self-help book, and paying increased attention to a behavior c h a n g e i s s u e ( e . g . , p r e v e n t i n g d i a b e t e s ) . Sometimes people are able to simply “will” a behavior change. When asked later how they succeeded in changing, they reply, “I just decided to do it.” Perhaps they drew a mental “line in the sand” at some point (e.g., weighing 180 pounds) and dared not cross it. Or maybe they became aware of the dangers of an unhealthy practice and told themselves “Something has to change” or “I’ve got to do something about this” or “I’m just not going to do this anymore.” More commonly, however, successful behavior change requires a variety of self-help strategies and/or a strong support system. As you commit to taking action to improve your h e a l t h a n d f i n a n c e s , determine what behavior(s) you are changing, the pros and cons of making changes, and how you intend to change your behavior and address obstacles along the way. Take these action steps as it relates to health and wealth this week:Action Steps to improving y o u r h e a l t h & w e a l t h behavior: 1.Identify the stage of change you are in with respect to a hea l th behavior and a financial behavior that you want to change.2 .Wri te a s ta tement of commitment to change a hea l th behavior and a financial behavior using the words “I will”.3 . Ident i fy the pr imary factors that motivate you to make health changes (e.g., fitting in to tight jeans or fear of living in poverty).4.Turn a negative behavior into a positive (e.g., I’ll cut
back on sweets and eat fresh fruit instead or I’ll cut back on lottery tickets and save the money). To firm up your plans, ask yourse l f the fo l lowing questions for building your health and wealth?”•What are some reasons to make these changes?•What are some reasons not to make these changes?•How strongly do you want to change?•How confident are you that you’ll succeed?•What is keeping you from changing right now?•What steps will you take to
make the behavior changes? Will you need any help?•Do you have any role models?•When will you start taking action? Give a specific date.•What obstacles do you expect to face? How do you plan to address them? For more information on scheduling a more in depth Building Health and Wealth program in your agency or business, contact Rachel Lockwood at P i t t sburg County OSU Extension Office at (918)423-4120 or [email protected].

USDA Announces More Local Control for School Meal OperationsU . S . D e p a r t m e n t o f Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Secretary Steve Censky today announced two new efforts to provide states and school districts with additional flexibility and support to operate more efficient school meal programs. Censky made the announcement during a s p e e c h a t t h e S c h o o l N u t r i t i o n A s s o c i a t i o n L e g i s l a t i v e A c t i o n Conference in Washington, D.C.Chi ld Nutr i t ion Hir ing Flexibility RuleIn 2015, USDA established educat ion and training requirements for nutrition professionals as part of the
Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. While this strengthened many school meal programs, some small s c h o o l d i s t r i c t s f a c e d challenges finding qualified applicants to direct their local food service operation. Today’s proposal would provide much-needed relief for school districts with less t h a n 2 , 5 0 0 s t u d e n t s , a l l o w i n g t h e m m o r e flexibility in the hiring of n e w s c h o o l n u t r i t i o n program directors.“Small and rural school districts will no longer have to overlook qualified food s e r v i c e p r o f e s s i o n a l s because of one-size-fits-all
standards that don’t meet their needs," said Censky. “We trust our local partners to hire talented school nutrition program directors who will manage the meal service in a way that protects the health and well-being of students.”USDA is providing a 60-day public comment period and will then develop a final rule that responds to the needs of partners and stakeholders.Child Nutrition Integrity EffortsTo support states’ efforts to improve program integrity, USDA also rolled out a suite of customizable resources to help local school districts
improve the accuracy of their school meal application processes. These resources
include support for online applications, evidenced-based materials, and best practices to simplify the process for families and ensure that eligible children receive free and reduced-priced meals.“USDA’s goal to do right and feed everyone starts with our children,” said Censky. “We are committed to giving states and school districts more tools and options to build a bright, self-sufficient
future for America’s children t h r o u g h w e l l - m a n a g e d school meal programs.”As part of this package, USDA is offering guidance to help schools utilize its award-winning, open-source o n l i n e s c h o o l m e a l application model. USDA developed the application with input from local food service professionals. The customer-friendly design of

Selecting the Perfect Garden
Site
With vegetable gardening season just about a month away, now is a great time to select that perfect garden site.Choosing a garden site is as important as selecting the vegetables to grow in it. All vegetables need sunlight and fertile, well-drained soil, and they will contract fewer diseases if the site has good ventilation. Another key aspect of site selection is to place the garden so it will be convenient to plant, care for, and harvest. While very few of us are
lucky enough to have the ideal place that provides all of the needed conditions to grow a successful garden, we can find the best site in our landscape by following a few simple guidelines.First, select for sunlight. An open, south-facing, gradual slope is best, but if you don’t have that, look for a shade free-place. All vegetables need a minimum of 6 hours
of sunshine. Next, get to know the soil in your yard. Good gardening soil warms early in the spring, is loamy enough to provide oxygen to the roots of growing plants, holds enough water for several days, and is fertile enough to grow a good crop of weeds. An indication of general fertility of your garden soil is its natural vegetation. A s a t h u m b r u l e , t h e healthier the weeds or grass already growing on the site, the better the soil will be for growing vegetables. Also, try to locate your garden away from trees and large shrubs. The roots from nearby woody plants will
take nutrients and water away from your vegetables. And finally, avoid placing the garden where there is l i t t le air movement. A natural breeze helps prevent foliage diseases, where as stagnant, humid, warm air creates ideal conditions for development of problems such as tomato blight, powdery mildew and other plant health issues.

When Your Business Needs Complete Saturation for the Oklahoma Territory, We Have Your Needs Covered
Times weren’t always easy for his family. But he was a happy child. After his parents divorced when he was four, he lived with his two older sisters and his mother. Money was tight and his mom was working to keep up with paying the bills and feeding three active kids. The kids learned early on to be self-sufficient and to rely on f r i ends when the i r mother had to be at work. Jeffrey Welton spent much of
h i s ch i ldhood p lay ing outside. Sweet-natured and sensitive, he wasn’t one to run with big crowds. One girl became his close friend and confidante and he gravitated to her house - perhaps seeking the family environment that his own mother was trying so hard to provide. But it was his mother who laid the foundation for church and a love of music. Jeffrey and his sisters grew up attending Grand Avenue United Methodist Church. They were active in Sunday School and youth groups. The church gave them another place to call home.
Jeffrey would spend lots of time alone too. That theme became more and more constant as he hit young adulthood and began to face struggles with mental health.Born in to a mus ica l ly inclined family, Jeffrey inher i ted many o f the abil i t ies shared by his parents and his two sisters. A clear and pleasing singing voice and a natural affinity for the stage, he had a knack for performing. During a high school talent show, his performance of “Hungry Like The Wolf” by Duran Duran brought down the house as high school girls cheered in delight.
“That was probably the highlight of his life,” his s i s t e r J a c k i e r e c e n t l y recalled. At the time, nobody would h a v e g u e s s e d t h a t h e wouldn’t be given the chance to do great things with his considerable talent. After his older sisters had graduated from high school and started their own lives, Jeffrey’s mom decided that better job opportunities would be available in a bigger city. They packed up and moved to Tulsa. What happened with Jeffrey over the next few years turned their lives upside down. Thirty years later, they are
still trying desperately to recreate some semblance of a life for their brother and son.The move to Jenks in 7th grade proved to be tough. Jeffrey’s grades plummeted and that was the first time they began to deal with his issues of mental illness. Diagnosed with melancholia (now known as depression), Jeffrey was unhappy and overwhelmed by a large school filled with kids from well-to-do families.Jeffrey and his mom moved to Sapulpa, where he found a place in the choir and band. Things seemed to be looking up for him as he was named First Chair and All-District
on the trombone. After a move to Tulsa Union for his junior and senior years, he ran cross-country and was named MVP of the high school team. Despite these off and on successes from a variety of talents, social situations remained difficult for him. Then the mental illness that had reared its head a few years earlier became more prevalent, proving to be a demon Jeffrey and his family would fight for years.Next week: One family’s plunge into the dark depths of mental illness and the broken system that is failing the people who need it most.

BHI: US rig count drops 22 units in 20th straight week of lossesThe US drilling rig count fell 22 units to 932 rigs working during the week ended Apr. 24, marking the 20th consecutive week of declines, according to data from Baker Hughes Inc.The count has now plunged 988 units since the week ended Dec. 5 (OGJ Online, Dec. 5, 2014). The total of 932 is the lowest since July 17, 2009, and 929 fewer units compared with this week a year ago.Analys ts a t Raymond James & Associates Inc. , however, have predicted an impending trough in the
count as well permitting activity picks up (OGJ Online, Apr. 17, 2015). “All things considered, we believe that we are close to a bottom in the rig count, which is likely to be seen in the next couple of months,” they said earlier this week in an energy update.RJA tracks the issuance of well permits as a leading indicator of rig count activity. Last week, 912 new permits were issued, jumping more than 200 week-over-week. Including that total, the 4-week average was 820, roughly flat week-over-week “due to typically low
permit numbers for the prior two weeks, impacted by the Easter holidays,” RJA said.“We believe that, excluding the holiday lows seen the past 2 weeks, we have seen 4-week average weekly permits bottom already,” they noted. “Our analysis shows that the bottom was reached a month and a half ago, the week of Mar. 6, indicating that the bottom in the rig count is likely not far off.”RJA also cautions that while the US rig count may soon hit a bottom, the subsequent recovery may be slow.Oil rigs plunge againDuring the week, oil rigs lost 31 units to 703, down 831 year-over-year and 906 since a recent peak of 1,609 on Oct. 10. Gas rigs, meanwhile, jumped 8 units to 225, representing their largest increase o f t h e y e a r . R i g s c o n s i d e r e d unclassified edged up a unit to 4.All units laid down again were land-
based, which now total 895, down 898 year-over-year. Rigs engaged in horizontal drilling fell 21 units to 720. Since Nov. 21, 652 horizontal units have gone offline. Rigs drilling directionally, meanwhile, were unchanged at 91.A 1-unit decline in rigs drilling in inland waters to 3 was offset by a 1-unit rise in offshore rigs to 34.Regarding worldwide offshore rigs, RJA noted that “2015 has started off at an anemic contracting pace, with E&Ps more focused on reducing the number of rigs and capex rather than signing new rigs.”The industry is “seeing customers willing to pay significant termination fees [to] cancel contracts for offshore drilling rigs,” RJA said. “Given that the cancellation fee comes as a complete loss to the E&P [company], we view this as a very power fu l s igna l tha t contracting and tendering will remain weak for a significant period of time.”
RJA expects the worldwide offshore rig count to decline 13% year-over-year in 2016 and another 4% year-over-year in 2017.In Canada this week, the number of rigs merely edged down a unit to 79, a decline of 361 since Jan. 16. A 4-unit drop in oil rigs to 16 was reduced by a 3-unit drop in gas rigs to 63.More losses in Texas, North DakotaTexas again led the losses among major oil- and gas-producing states with a 19-unit decline to 393, down 513 since Nov. 21 and 501 year-over-year. The state’s losses reflected a 12-unit drop in the
Permian to 246, down 322 since Dec. 5, and an 8-unit drop in the Eagle Ford to 115, down 103 since Oct. 31.North Dakota lost 5 units for the second straight week to 78, reflecting a 5-unit drop, also for the second straight week, in the Williston to 79.The rapidly declining rig counts in major shale plays and subsequent slowly declining production, in most cases, is a reflection of the improvement of drilling effic iency, the subject o f much discussion this week in Houston during IHS CERAWeek. 12, and 9, respectively.

Scientist ‘99 percent’ sure bones found belong to Amelia EarhartA scientific study claims to shed new light on the decades-long mystery of what happened to Amelia Earhart.R ichard Jan tz , an emer i tus anthropology professor at the University of Tennessee, argues that bones discovered on the Pacific
island of Nikumaroro in 1940 were l ikely Earhart’s remains. The research contradicts a forensic analysis of the remains in 1941 that described the bones as belonging to a male. The bones, which were subsequently lost, continue to be a
source of debate.Earhart, who was attempting to fly around the world, disappeared with navigator Fred Noonan on July 2, 1937, during a flight from Papua New Guinea to Howland Island in the Pacific. The first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, Earhart was one of the most famous people in the w o r l d a t t h e t i m e o f h e r disappearance. A number of theories have emerged about her fate. One well-publicized theory is that Earhart died a castaway after landing her plane on the remote island of Nikumaroro, a coral atoll 1,200 miles from the Marshall Islands. Some 13 human bones were found on Nikumaroro, also known as Gardner Island, three y e a r s a f t e r E a r h a r t ’ s disappearance. In 1941, the bones were analyzed by Dr. David Hoodless, principal of the Central Medical School in Fiji. However, Jantz says that modern analysis techniques may have
de l ivered a d i f fe rent resu l t , particularly with regard to gender.“When Hoodless conducted his analysis, forensic osteology was not yet a well-developed discipline,” he explains in a paper published in the journal Forensic Anthropology. “Evaluating his methods with reference to modern data and methods suggests that they were inadequate to his task; this is particularly the case with his sexing m e t h o d . T h e r e f o r e h i s s e x assessment of the Nikumaroro bones cannot be assumed to be correct.”Hoodless used 19th-century forensic science and described the bones as possibly belonging to a “short, stocky muscular European,” according to Jantz. The 1941 analysis described the remains as those of a male around 5 feet 5½ inches.Earhart’s pilot’s license, however, recorded her height as 5 feet 8 inches and her driver’s license said 5 feet 7. Photos also show Earhart’s slender frame. Noonan was 6 feet ¼ inch.
Jantz says the methods used by Hoodless underestimated height compared to modern techniques.Hoodless used three criteria in his research: the ratio of the femur’s circumference to length, the angle of the femur and pelvis, and the subpubic angle, which is formed between two pelvis bones. The subpubic angle is wider in women than in men.Jantz says the subpubic angle is the most reliable of Hoodless’ criteria, but even that is “subject to considerable variation, much of which was little understood in 1941.”The scient ist also compared Hoodless’ measurements to data from 2,776 other people, as well as studying photos of Earhart and her clothing measurements. “This
analysis reveals that Earhart is more similar to the Nikumaroro bones than 99 percent of individuals in a large reference sample,” said Jantz. “This strongly supports the conclusion that the Nikumaroro bones belonged to Amelia Earhart.”Despite Jantz’s skepticism about the 1941 analysis of the bones, some modern scientists have backed up the Hoodless results. While some people are convinced that Nikumaroro is Earhart’s final resting place, another theory suggests that she met her end on Mili Atoll in the Marshall Islands.Last year, controversy swirled around a photo that was touted as providing a vital clue to Earhart’s fate.
