Injection molding is a process whereby plastic resin is heated to a melt temperature and injectedunder pressure into the interior of the Model 790EB-150 plug valve body, bonnet or onto the plug.This process creates a uniformly dense thickness of heavy plastic lining. Also, it is locked into themachined body grooves. The locked-in lining is an excellent feature for vacuum serviceapplications. Other plug valve designs using PTFE as a liner cannot use the injection moldingprocess because PTFE does not melt. During this process, the PTFE can thin and experience stressconcentrations, because a PTFE tube must be forced into shape by pressure and temperature,PTFE liners may not be of uniform thickness nor will they be locked in for vacuum service. Thus,injection molding is the superior method of lining valves with plastic.

The ChemValve® Model790EB-150 high perfor-mance lined plug valvehas adjustable chevronTFM packing like a globevalve. The six ring set ismuch more substantialthan the thin diaphragmsused in other lined plugvalve designs. If processpressure leaks into one ofthe packing rings, it willmechanically spread thering sealing off the leak.This means there is littlechance of either corro-sive stem leakage ontothe bonnet of the valveor fugitive emissions tothe atmosphere.
The ChemValve® Model790EB-150 high perfor-mance lined plug valvehas replaceable seatslike a ball valve, giving itmany advantages overother lined plug valvedesigns. When the seatswear down from multiplecycles, they are easilyreplaced without removingthe Model 790EB-150plug valve from the pipeline. Other lined plugvalves, however, must bediscarded and a newvalve installed. Becauseour seats take the wearof the plug, the Model790EB-150 liner lastslonger against the ef-fects of erosion, pressureand temperature.The replaceable seats inthe ChemValve® Model790EB-150 give loweroperating torques equat-ing to additional benefitsincluding ease of turningand downsizing of actua-tors.
The plug valve is one ofthe oldest valve designsknown to man, but it isstill an excellent choicefor corrosive and/orerosive applications dueto its adjustability. Unlikea fully lined ball valvedesign which has nofac i l ity to stop l ineleakage, the Model790EB-150 high perfor-mance lined plug valvecan be adjusted to stopa leak past the seatswhile the valve is inservice. Furthermore,the adjustment is simpleenough to be per-formed by a plant op-erator armed with pliers,instead of requiring anexperienced valvemechanic with severaltools. The packingflange extends perpen-dicular to the pipelineallowing easy adjust-ment especially if thevalve is actuated. All ofthese features convertdirectly into cost savingsfor the user.

POLYPROPYLENE
Polypropylene is a thermoplastic resin exhibiting an excellentbalance of corrosion resistance and economy. When injectionmolded into a Model 790EB-150 plug valve, it provides an ex-cellent low cost product for many applications, such as HCIapplications and in the water and waste water treatment in-dustry. The suitability of polypropylene is highly dependent onservice temperature. Polypropylene is especially good in am-bient temperature applications. This liner has been tested in37% HCI and approved. The maximum temperature rating of the790EB-150 Polypropylene lined plug valve is 225 degrees F.
KYNAR® (Poly-vinylidene fluoride)
PVDF is a strong hard fluorocarbon resin which is thermallystable, non-toxic and has excellent chemical resistance. PVDFis especially well suited to weak corrosives and slurry serviceapplications found in bleach plants of pulp and paper mills.PVDF is the material of choice for chlorine and other halogencontaining chemicals. The suitability of PVDF in a given corrosiveservice is highly dependent on temperature. In some cases,PVDF can be substituted for a PFA lining. In abrasive applications,PVDF will work better than PFA, due to its resistance to erosion,provided it is chemically compatible with the service. The maximumtemperature rating of the 790EB-150 PVDF lined plug valve is 275 degrees F.
