in some countries.

II. BODY

Transition: Are you good to go? Ok. Let me start with a show of the meaning of

present.

A. The meaning of present

Four Specific meanings:

First of all, presents to show that you love and care. Such as sweet-

heart, members in family, or close-friends.

Next, presents to celebrate life’s special occasions and events. For

example, birthday, job promotion, wedding, baby shower, Christmas

day, graduating from university etc.

Then, presents to show your gratitude and say “thank you”. For

example, for your teacher on Teacher’s Day, for your parents on

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day and for someone always help you in

life.

Last but not least, presents to apologize and reconcile your

differences. As you make mistake to someone you should give present

to show that you would like to apologize and reconcile with them.

Transition: That’s enough about the meaning of present. Now, let’s move on to the

appropriate presents for some kinds of people.

B. The appropriate presents for some kinds of people.

Every year when the holidays roll around, it's inevitable that this question pops up: “What kinds of presents should I get for the special people in my life?” Don't worry, I will recommend to you.

1. For children.

Children love presents that are custom-made. Stitching their

names on backpacks, beach towels for a girl or boy. You

could give toys, dolls, keepsake boxes. These presents for

boys and girls are sure to be delighted.

2. For the old.

Finding the perfect present for an elderly can be

challenging. Food presents are often welcome because it is

often difficult for the elderly to shop. In addition, you can

give others such as fruits, picture frame clothesline, film

tickets and so on.

3. For men.

Getting present for men is not too difficult. Deciding what to

get a man usually involves finding out what his hobbies and

favorite "toys" are. When in doubt go with something

practical; something that helps him work, study, play, or

relax: tools, watch, wine, cook and health books.

4. For women.

With so many options, it's hard to know what would make

the perfect present for women. I think you should give her

something such as a scrapbook, picture frame clothesline,

food, perfume and jewellries.

Transition: Next, let’s talk about the differences in culture of giving present in

some countries

C. The differences in culture of giving present in some countries

In China, avoid giving a clock because it is connected with

funerals.

In South Korea, don’t give four of anything because four is an

unlucky number.

In Japan, don’t give white flowers and don’t wrap the present in

white paper because they are considered as death.

In Latin America, don’t give knives because it means the

cutting of a relationship. If you receive a knife, you can give

coins in return to stop the influence of the knives.

In Vietnam, abstain from giving marigolds, this flower is

associated with worship and death. If you are falling in love,

you should not give a scarf to your honey, it means that your

relationship is broken up.

Transition: I told you about my topic “giving present”. Let me summarize my

presentation’s contents.
