Dioctyl phthalate added to
PVC
dioctyl phthalate (DOP) has
C=O bonds from ester.
= used as plasticizer for PVC
Advantages
• Cheap to buy • Waterproof • Fire resistant
(chloride makes up 50% of the molecule, when released via heat can slows down fire)
• Light weight

Disadvantages
• A negatively charged Cl halogen can wreak havoc
Explanation
To determine FTIR, the observer passes a infrared light into the sample, which is then reflected into an recorder. FTIR identifies different types of chemical bonds in the sample.
The X axis, wavenumber (cm-1), is determined by this equation 1/2pi(k/m)=x. Where k=spring constant, and m=mass. The higher the spring constant is, the higher the wavenumber. Retrieved from RPI.Ryuc
Explanation no#2 on FTIR
First get T, transmission. One gets T by dividing the IR intensity before by after going through material. This is now serves as a Y axis for a graph. Sometimes A, the absorption is used in place of T on the Y axis, you can get abortion by doing this: “-log(T)” into a calculator. Although scientists also can include a Z coordinate for time it is not provided on the graphs above.
