The Giants play their home games at Tokyo Dome. TTo get to Tokyo Dome from Yokosuka Chuo take the Keikyu limited express to Shinagawa then transfer to the JR Keihhin Tohoku Negi-shi line and go to Akahabara station. Change to the JR Sobu Chuo line and go to Suidobashi station. From there you should see Tokyo Dome. This will take about an hour and fifteen minutes and cost about 810 yen. Tokyo Dome also has an amusement park with lots of attractions if baseball isn’t your thing.

Tickets can be purchased at the Tokyo Dome Ticket office near gate 22 or at any ticket outlet such as ticketpia. Tickets are available at the gate but usually sell quickly especially if the Giants are playing the Tigers. Ticket prices start at 1,700 yen up to 5,900 yen.

The Swallows play at Jingu Stadium, which is the oldest and smallest stadium in use by Japanese professional baseball.

TTo get to Jingu Stadium from Yokosuka Chuo station take the Keikyu limited express to Yokohama. Change trains and get on the Toyoko Minato Mirai line to Shibuya. At the Shibuya station you will change trains again to the Tokyo Metro Ginza line. Ride this train to the Gaienmae station. From the station you will have about a five minute walk to the stadium. This should take about an hour and fifteen minutes and cost about 770 yen. 770 yen.

To get tickets go to the box office near the OF gates 16-18. Tickets are almost always available at the gate unless it’s a Giants or Tigers game. Tickets are also available at Ticketpia. Tickets cost between 1,500-4,500 yen.

YYokohama Stadium is located near Yokohama’s China Town. To get to Yokohama Stadium from Yokosuka Chuo station, take the Keikyu limited express line to Yokohama then switch trains. Get on the JR Keihin Tohoku Negishi line and get off at the Kannai station. You should be able to find the stadium quickly. It’s about a two-minute walk from the station. In all, this should take 35 minutes and cost about 480 yen.

YYou can get tickets for the game at the stadium ticket office near the main gate or ticket outlets called “ticketpia”. Ticketpias are generally located in shopping malls and around larger train stations. Tickets are generally available at the gate but during Giants or Tigers’ games tickets sell out quickly. Tickets cost around 1,800 yen.

The Miura Peninsula

The beaches are not as clean as you would find in the states, but are not bad over all. To get to the east side from Yoko-suka Chuo, take the Keikyu limited express to the Miura Kaigan station. This will take about 20 minutes and run you about 230 yen. To get to the west side, get off at the Misakiguchi station then take a taxi, bus or walk to the beach.

Tokyo Summerland Water Park

Summerland offers an indoor and outdoor pool, water slides and a few rides. The cost during the summer is 3,500 yen for adults and 2,500 for kids ages 7 to 12. Kids 2 to 6 years old cost 1,800 yen.

TTo get to Summerland from Yokosuka Chuo station, take the Keikyu limited express to Yokohama. Get on the JR Yokohama line and go to Hachioji (depending on when you go, you may need to change trains to one that goes all the way to Hachioji). Once in Hachioji change trains and get on the JR Hachiko line and go to the Haijima station. From Haijima Station transfer to Musashi-Itsukaichi line for Akigawa Station. From Akigawa Station take a bus or taxi. If by bus, take one bound for Tokyo Sum-merland (about a five-minute ride). Overall, this trip will take a little over two hours and cost about 1,240 yen one waand cost about 1,240 yen one way.

Yomiuriland

Yomiuriland has tons of things to do including water slides, pools, rollercoasters, freefall, go carts, bungee jumping and several attractions for children. There are many options for tickets and a lengthy page of rules for the water park, but once you’re there it’s a great day for the whole family. Visit the Web site for park map, prices, rules and even coupons.

TTo get to Yomiuriland from Yokosuka Chuo station, take the Keikyu limited express to Yokohama. Go to the Sotetsu line and go to Yamato. Change trains and get on the Odakyu line and go to the Yomiuriland-mae station. There are public buses that run to the park from there. The trip will take about an hour and a half and cost around 950 yen.

Shonan and Enoshima

Shonan stretches from Enoshima nearly to the Izu Peninsula. On a clear day, the Izu Peninsula and Mt. Fuji form the western horizon. Most beaches in Japan are very crowded in July and August, but the crowds thin out in the afternoon.

The beach is lined with seasonal shops, restaurants and bars. Further down the beach to the west (toward Mt Fuji), the crowd thins out slightly and surf-able waves form. If surfing is your thing, this is a great spot to enjoy the day. Enoshima Island is close by and offers a quieter day with shrines, tearooms and botanical gardens. It’s popular with families and couples.

TTo get to Enoshima Beach from Yokosuka Chuo station, take the Keikyu limited express to Yokohama. Change to the JR Tokaido line to Fujisawa then change to the Odakyu Enoshima line. Get off at the Katase Enoshima station. This will take about an hour and ten minutes and cost about 900 yen. From there you should be able to follow the crowds to the beach or just ask “Umi wa doko desu ka?” which means “Where’s the beach?” to anyone at the station. They should be able to point you in the general direction.

Summer Sonic 09

Summer Sonic will be Friday, August 7 through Sunday August 9. This is a very large concert which runs six stages simultaneously, with the main stage at Chiba Marine Stadium and others located across the street at Makuhare Messe and one stage at the beach. All stages are easy to access at any time during the event but it is very crowded so it helps to plan your route.

Gates open each day at 9:30 a.m. with the show starting around Gates open each day at 9:30 a.m. with the show starting around 11:30 a.m. The final act of the day will usually finish around 9 p.m. Tickets are available through Lawson’s convenient stores or Ticketpia and are 14,000 yen for a Friday, August 7 one- day pass and 15,000 yen each for Saturday and Sunday, August 8 and 9. Tickets for all three days are 39,500 yen.

Get on the JR Keiyo line to Kaihin-Makuhari station. You should be able to see this complex from the station. It will take you about two hours to get there and cost about 1,250 yen.

Fuji Rock Festival 09

Fuji Rock is a three-day concert which closely resembles the Fuji Rock is a three-day concert which closely resembles the original Woodstock and draws a number of “hippies” and music lovers. The event is from 9 a.m. Friday, July 24, to 5 p.m. Monday, July 27. It is located in the mountains near Niigata about 200km away from the daily grind of Tokyo, so don’t be surprised to find yourself roughing it at the concert.

This annual event is a small town of tents and stages with music This annual event is a small town of tents and stages with music going non stop on as many as eight stages, ranging from huge headlining venues to small stages along the boardwalk in the woods. Big name acts have been known to just show up and do a small jam session on these small stages. Fuji Rock has everything from rock to jazz to world music. Side stages also host street performers and rookies to entertain you as you wander from stage to stage. wander from stage to stage.

You can buy a campsite ticket for 3,000 yen sold separately from event tickets. This is by far the best way to experience all that Fuji Rock has to offer. Join a drum circle or buy organic food and drinks or hand crafts and art from vendors in tee-pee tents. There is even an area for kids with play areas and changing and nursing stations. Three day passes to Fuji Rock cost 39,800 yen and a one day pass will run you 16,800. Tickets are available at Lawson’s convenient stores and Ticketpia.

Take that train to Tokyo station where you will need to ride the Shinkansen Max Toki 309, getting off at Echigo Yuzawa station. At the station there is a free shuttle bus that can take you to the event site.
