Volume 34 Issue 5 May 2014 www.cosmoindustries.com Cosmo was awarded the con- tract to provide recycling ser- vices to Multi Unit Residences in Saskatoon based on a city coun- cil vote that passed 7 to 4. Our proposal for recycling services at multi-unit residences is custom- ized to address the specific re- quirements of condos and apart- ments. Some locations will have steel bins with plastic lids. These bins will be 3, 4, 6, or 8 yard metal bins, depending on the ca- pacity required. Where a steel bin can’t be placed due to safety concerns or space requirements, properties will have 95-gallon carts like the curbside pro- gram. For the minority of prop- erties, which will need carts, Cosmo will be providing “walk- up” or “valet” service. The carts will be in a staging area for nor- mal use by residents. We will roll the carts from the staging area on the property to the collection vehicle, tip them and return them to their proper place. The program is built for success with additional capacity provided by larger bins or extra carts without an extra charge. We intend to work closely with superinten- dants and property managers to ensure the collection of bins that are not accessible due to block- age or contamination (ie sofa in a bin). The earliest that we will be able to provide recycling ser- vices to Multi-Unit Residences will be in October of this year. The timeline is tight and the program will be phased-in. The goal is to have the program fully operational by the begin- ning of 2015. There is much to be done prior to collecting and processing our first recyclables from the program, but everyone at Cosmo is excited by the new opportunities that the program will provide. Thanks to everyone who supported our recycling ef- forts. We look forward to your assistance in making Saskatoon’s Multi-Unit Residential Recycling program one of the best in the country. The Cosmo Bull-a-thon with Pat and Cristy brought in almost $9,000 for renovations to Cosmo. Stuart MacLennan’s team lead the way with over $2,200 raised. Cosmo Captain Stuart will receive an Apple iPad. Karsyn Grasby, one of our youngest bowlers was also the individual who brought in the most money and will take away an Apple IPAD as well. There was a wide array of prizes to go along with the pizza and pop that was served. We’d like to give a special thanks to our title sponsors Pat Dubois and Cristy Beggs of the BULL radio station. Of course, the Bull-a-thon would not be a success without the involvement of the staff who have adopted this event, knowing that it is a highlight of the year for many of our participants. We are making plans to have the event grow for 2015. See you at Hunter’s Fairhaven Bowl next year. BULL-A-THON FUN FOR ALL OVER 400 REASONS TO RECYCLE Some of this year’s bowlers are seen above.

Cosmo was awarded the con-tract to provide recycling ser-vices to Multi Unit Residences in Saskatoon based on a city coun-cil vote that passed 7 to 4. Hello folks, Well what an exciting week I had! I bet yours was the same on Mother’s Day. What I like about it is that you get to celebrate with friends and family because that's what family's do, right? I cele-brated with my brothers and sis-ters. As a family, we got some flowers for our mother, but what do I like about it is that umh! Hmm!! Pretty much says it right there. Anyhow, you get the pic-ture. That's basically all I can say at this point. This is Brian Skip-ping Adam Pretzel Stones signing off! Ciao! Just kidding! Anyways, hope you had fun reading my arti-cles that are in the Communicator. I plan to write more in the coming months ahead so keep reading and remember, yes, we are the Miracle on 34th Street and re-member NEVER SAY NEVER TO THINGS THAT DON'T GO AS PLANNED. IT MAY SEEM THAT WAY BUT DO AS THE BIEBS SAYS IN HIS SONG OK. I must go, see ya. Brian A. Stones See ya! Bye!

On April 25th, the Community

Work Group Program cele-

brated Supported Employment

Month. This was a planned mini

event in order to celebrate and

recognize each participant’s

achievements and contribu-

tions toward working out in the

community. The support team

of Job Coaches were important

for the planning of this event,

including the dispersing of

treats, and fizzy drinks, and

providing each participant with

a small token of gratitude. Also,

in celebration of the event, each

business received a basket of

homemade cookies and a card

of acknowledgement for pro-

viding opportunities and thank-

ing them for supporting our

Community Based Employment

Program. As a team, the CWGP

truly achieves great things and

everyone involved should be

very proud of all that they do,

learn and accomplish.

CELEBRATING SUPPORTED

EMPLOYMENT MONTH

On May 6th, Jesse Haughn, Kathy Hoffman, Heather Cone, Richard Donnan, Holly Best, Rhenelyn Dela-Cruz, Trisha Tel-ford and I had a memorable day at Prairieland Park to kick off the North American Occupa-tional Safety and Health Week. After a great lunch, we listened

to Mayor Don Atchison address the crowd on how safety in the work-place has affected him and, more specifically, his father, in their re-spected work areas. The highlight of the day was the guest speaker, Josh Dueck. Josh broke his back in 2004 in a skiing accident

that left him paralyzed. His most recent accomplishments include silver and gold medals from the Paralympic Games in Sochi, Russia (2014). Some other highlights in his career include: a silver medal at the 2010 Paralympic Games in Van-couver, gold in Mono Skier X at

the 2011 X Games, bronze at the 2012 X Games. He has won multiple IPC World Cup podi-ums and is the 2009 World Downhill Champion. To top it all off, in February of 2012, Josh shot to international acclaim when he went upside-down, and became the first sit-skier to complete a back flip on snow, earning him world-wide notoriety and an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Josh`s inspirational speech was one that will truly not be for-gotten by all of us that at-tended! -Dave Parkalub Recreation Coordinator OHS Committee Member

THAT’S A WRAP

A big thank you goes out to the 41 Rhythm Band members and our three volunteers, Russ (conductor), Shirley (pianist), and Rick (set up) for their patience in the delay of our Rhythm Band season. Our season was scheduled to begin in January, but due to some construction, our season was un-able to begin until the end of April. We were so excited to see Russ, Shirley and Rick come in for our first practice in April! It was like Christmas all over again. The group didn’t miss a beat and they sang louder than ever! Our season is now wrapped up, with a total of only four practices. We will take the summer off and resume practices in September with an anticipated full season. -Chantal Gosselin Coordinator of Volunteer Services

Thank you for all of your donations and helping make the Pathways Annual

Garage Sale a huge success!

On April 26th, Justin Tharp and Curtis Reid took in a night of boxing. To start the night off right, they had supper at McDonald’s before going to Nelson Boxing. While at Nelson Boxing, Justin and Curtis were right into the action as they did not take their eyes off of the matches. They were enter-tained to see boxers from BC, two knockouts and some great

local talent. At the end of the evening, they were asked what they thought and one word was echoed by both, “SWEET!”. Thank you to Top of the Rock for making this experience one to remember! -Owen Christopherson Community Based Work Groups

Cosmo had another successful year at the Special Olympics track meet hosted once again by E.D Feehan High School. We participated in events like 50 m and 100m track, shot put, soc-cer, standing long jumps and ball toss. We had a great time supporting and cheering on our team! The best part of each year is meeting up with old friends, making new friends and celebrating every person’s achievements! With a few words from our mayor and

even a visit from the Olympic torch, you could feel the over-whelming excitement and sup-port for our athletes. Congratulations to every ath-lete that competed. It was truly an honour to witness such hard work and dedication to sport! -Maegen Urdal Recreation Coordinator -Brittani Fox Recreation Coordinator
