Twenty Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C

Kindness and mercy’ (Green)

1 Timothy 1:12-15 / Psalm 111 Luke 15:11-32

Have you ever lost anything that was really important to you? How did

you feel? What did you do? Jesus tells us a story about a father who

thought he had lost his son forever, but he came home. God is like the

father, always ready to forgive us and bring us back home to him when

we recognise that we have done wrong.

Our wrong choices only keep us from enjoying God’s presence for as long as we refuse to return

home; our attitudes can also prevent us from enjoying our Christian life. Lack of forgiveness, lack of

hospitality and generosity are all characteristics which are alien to the father that Jesus shows us. This

week try to model your attitudes and meetings with others on those demonstrated by the father in this

parable.

A big welcome to Liam Forbes

(Yr 5) in Room 4 with Mrs

Perrett. It’s been a busy week,

but we hope you have enjoyed

your first week at our school

DAY Thank you to Mr Bird and Room 5 for leading us in Liturgy to recognise: Social Justice Week.

In an ever-changing world, it is important that we stop and see what the need is around us and in

our communities that link us.

Social Justice is about:

• Working against discrimination

• Mitigating the effects of climate change on communities

• Ensuring workers are valued and treated fairly

• Preventing the marginalisation of people from society

• Challenging unjust government policies that contribute to the oppression of some people in

a society

• Ensuring the powerful don’t abuse their power

• Promoting peace instead of violence

• Ensuring men, women, and children are able to flourish

• Preventing corruption and promoting transparency and accountability

This Tuesday we raised $3,287 for the Marist Mission in Ranong.

This money contributes to enabling and supporting children of school age to go to school. At this

time, it is a very unsettling time for Ranong. We wish them all the best and hope that this donation

will be significant in supporting the education of their children in a safe and healthy environment

that enables them to strive and flourish.

A big ‘Thank you’ to all the Staff that worked through this busy afternoon. And a massive ‘Thank you’ to all our Mission Group leaders that co-ordinated these stalls - without you running these stalls it would not be possible to hold these events!

Prayer for Fairness Grant us, Lord God,

a vision of your world as your love would have it:

A world where those treated unfairly are protected, and don’t go hungry or poor;

A world where the riches of creation are shared, and everyone can enjoy them; A world where different races and cultures

live in harmony and mutual respect; A world where peace is encouraged through fairness and guided by love.

Give us the inspiration and courage to build it, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

OPERATION

CHRISTMAS CHILD 2019

GIVE A PRESENT WITH A DIFFERENCE THIS CHRISTMAS

Each year Operation Christmas Child sends Shoeboxes full of gifts overseas, to children in need for Christmas.

And you can be a part of it. All you need to get started is a Shoebox and brochure.

Simply follow brochure information and fill your Shoebox. You can choose who it goes to – a girl or boy and what age range.

A donation of $10.00 is preferred to cover shipping and project costs.

Shoeboxes to be in by the 31st of October.

Last year 159 Shoeboxes were collected from the Hawera area. They joined 1015 from Taranaki (plus 'fillers' to make up extra shoe boxes). In total 24 382 were sent from New Zealand.

Pick up a Shoebox & brochure from the Church office. For more information see Patrea or visit www.operationchristmaschild.org.nz.
