General Rules

1. This is a Standard Flower Show, planned and staged by A&M Garden Club complying with the

requirements of NGC, INC. policies and guidelines as printed in the 2007 Handbook for

Flower Shows and updates. This printed schedule is the Law of the Show.

2. Emphasis of the show is placed on growing, showing and designing with untreated fresh plant

material. Dried plant material is allowed and may be treated. Artificial flowers, foliage,

fruit or vegetables are not permitted in any of the Divisions. In the design and special

exhibit divisions only, plant material need not have been grown by exhibitor.

3. No plant on the State Conservation List may be used or exhibited in this show except under

these circumstances: Any exhibit containing a protected variety must be accompanied by a

card listing both botanical and common name of plant with certification that it was grown

from seed or by other methods by exhibitor, or that it was established wild on the

exhibitor’s property.

4. All members are encouraged to participate by entering horticulture or design. Members will

staff each section of Horticulture, and Design to answer questions from the public as well as

the entry to hand out pamphlets of club information and a condensed Flower Show Schedule.

(HB p. 16 and 17)

5. A&M Garden Club Members may enter in:

Division I Horticulture, more than one exhibit per class, if there is a difference in color

or variety. Advance registration with Horticulture Chair for Collections and Displays,

Section L.

Division II Design, only one exhibit per class is allowed. Advance registration required

with Design Chair.

6. Exhibitor may enter more than one exhibit per class in the Horticulture Division, provided

each entry is of a different cultivar, type, or color.

7. Each entry must be passed by the Classification Chairman. Entry cards will be completed by

the committee in the Divisions. Entry cards in the Horticulture Division must be completed

by the exhibitor. The Classification Chairmen approve each exhibit for conformity having

also the right to mark “not for competition” when the exhibit is a late entry, has no show

quality or does not conform to the printed schedule.

3

Page 5: Over the Rainbow - · PDF file“Over the Rainbow: Garden of Oz” Standard Flower Show Presented by Keep Brazos Beautiful and A&M Garden Club Federated 1937 Bryan - College Station,

Show quality is defined as: high quality, clean, no dirt or debris, no pests or evidence of

pests, no torn leaves, brown flowers, and pot is clean and free of labels.

8. Procedure for entries:

Horticulture Classification Chairman must review all horticulture entry cards for proper

identification and check for botanical naming as required (see HB Chap 4 pp.95-97 and

Chap 6). Chair must disqualify entry if not show worthy and if disease is detected on an

entry including the presence of insects. It should be immediately removed from the show

room. Chair assists participants with plant identification, initials entry cards to signify

approval and directs exhibitors to Entries Committee.

Design Classification Chairman must give completed entry card to exhibitor and

Placement Committee member directs designer to location. When designer has completed

design, Classification Committee member checks for conformance to schedule, and initials

entry cards to signify approval. If design fails to conform to schedule, designer must be

advised and why. Options available are either corrections may be made at this time only

OR if necessary adjustments are not made, the design is placed but entry card indicates

"not for competition". An exhibit so identified continues to contribute to the minimum

number per class, section, and/or division for Top Exhibitor Award to be placed.
