Explore the early 19th century history of human dissection and the trade in dead bodies through dramatic evidence unearthed during Museum of London Archaeology excavations at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. Due to its subject matter this exhibition is not recommended for children under 12.

4. This dazzling 1400 year old gold and garnet brooch was found in a grave in Covent Garden.
5. The Great Fire Experience is the Museum’s oldest model. Through visual effects it shows how fire spread through the capital in 1666.

6. The truly magnificent Lord Mayor’s State Coach was built in 1757.
7. The exquisite Fanshawe dress was made from local Spitalfields silk woven by French Huguenots and worn by Ann Fanshawe when her father was Lord Mayor of London in 1752-53.

Planning your visit to the Museum of London
The Museum of London is situated in the City in the centre of London. It is a 5 minute walk from St Paul’s Cathedral, 15 minutes from Tate Modern and 25 minutes from the Tower of London.
The Museum provides gallery maps and object highlights sheets in French, Spanish, Italian and German. Please ask at the information desk on arrival.
From Roman settlement to Docklands’ regeneration, this 200 year old warehouse reveals the long history of London as a port through stories of trade, migration and commerce.
Here you can find a wealth of objects, from whale bones to World War II gas masks, and state-of-the-art galleries including Sailortown, an atmospheric recreation of 19th century riverside London, and London, Sugar & Slavery, which reveals the part the capital played in the transatlantic slave trade.
