Cell Cycle Overview The cell cycle

consists of 4 stages, G1, S, G2, and mitosis.

G1, S, and G2 are collectively called “interphase”.

Interphase is often called the “resting phase” because a cell is not dividing.

G1 Stands for “Gap 1” because it is the stage in

between two stages where the nucleus is active.

Cell growth occurs. Normal cell activities occur (protein synthesis,

etc.)

S Stands for “synthesis” (of DNA). DNA replication occurs. A complete copy of all DNA is made.

G2 Stands for Gap 2. More cell growth occurs. Preparation for cell division occurs

(more organelles are made, etc.)

Mitosis Mitosis is the process of dividing the

nucleus of a cell. Mitosis occurs in four stages:

Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase.

You will investigate the 4 stages of mitosis by making an interactive tutorial like this one.

Click the link for instructions for your activity.

Make an interactive tutorial using PowerPoint that details the events of the four stages of mitosis. Your product should be set up so that there is a main screen where the user can click buttons or pictures in order to move to slides with information about the phases. Your tutorial should include:• A diagram of a cell in each stage.• A photograph of a plant cell or an animal cell in each

stage.• A brief list of what is happens in each stage.• A terms page that links from terms that the user may

not know to a page with all definitions. • A page that lists the sites used for images.
