Description EN Lakhdar Brahimi has spent his life in the service of peace and justice. As a young man he joined Algeria’s liberation struggle and served as his country’s Foreign Minister in the early 1990s. He helped broker the Taif Agreement that ended Lebanon’s civil war, and has served as a UN envoy in conflict-riven countries including Afghanistan and Syria as well as authoring an influential report on UN peacekeeping operations. In this masterclass he will offer his views on how to craft sustainable peace and take questions from the audience.

Decades of globalisation and technological innovation have created tremendous economic growth, but a growing proportion of the population has been excluded from contributing to, or benefiting from, economic prosperity. A lack of inclusive growth has given rise to heightened social tensions, voter discontent, and the return of populism and protectionism in many countries. There is a growing consensus among business and policymakers on the need for a new growth model that “creates benefits for all groups of the population and distributes the dividends of increased prosperity both in monetary and non-monetary terms, fairly across society.” To date, however, there has been no comprehensive effort to link business practices and governments policies on inclusive growth. The Business for Inclusive Growth Platform aims to fill this gap; this launch event will explain how. Together, OECD Chief of Staff and Sherpa to the G20 Gabriela Ramos, and Danone CEO Emmanuel Faber, will present the purpose and key objectives of the platform, and how it will be used to leverage and maximise the capacity of the private sector to reduce inequalities and drive inclusion.
