OverviewIn general, when Chinese consumers access internet services that are located outside
of China, the traffic passes through a state operated firewall that can impair connectivity
and bandwidth. The problem is particularly acute when OpenTok end-users in China are
connecting to sessions located in other parts of the world.
To remedy this situation and provide a better experience for these cross border
sessions, additional OpenTok platform infrastructure is deployed to Chinese data
centers. End-users in China automatically connect to this local infrastructure, which in
turn routes to OpenTok media servers located elsewhere in the world. The net result is
a higher quality of experience for those end-users located in China who are connecting
with a session located elsewhere in the world.

What is
WebRTC?
WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) is an open standard for embedding real-time communications directly into
web browser and mobile applications. WebRTC offers better video quality than predecessor technologies, up to 6x
faster connection times, reduced audio/video latency and complete customizability.
Use Cases
Works in tandem with OpenTok Routed sessions only
Requires client SDKs 2.12 or higher (JavaScript, iOS &
Android)
TURN and WebSocket servers deployed to Alibaba Cloud data
centers in China
Note that this feature does not cover use cases where all
participants are located inside China, e.g. intra-China.
