AtmosphereMonitoring
A c q u i s i t i o n o f o b s e r v a t i o n s
• Originally developed for transmitting real-‐time data to remote machines
• Adapted to acquire data in real-‐time
• Highly configurable
• Browser-‐based user interface
• Multiple simultaneous transfers
• Monitored by 24/7 shift staff
• Analyst call-‐out when necessary
ECMWF Product Dissemination System (ECPDS)
AtmosphereMonitoring
S c a l a b l e A c q u i s i t i o n a n d P r e -‐ P r o c e s s i n g ( S A P P )
• Observations pushed to SAPP from ECPDS
• Decode the various data formats (e.g. BUFR, GRIB, HDF, NetCDF)
• Apply initial quality control
• Convert to a consolidated format before delivering to data assimilation
• Monitored by 24/7 shift staff
• Analyst call-‐out when necessary

AtmosphereMonitoring • Acquire specific re-‐processed
satellite data sets covering the period 2003 – present
• Use an offline instance of SAPP to process observations for reanalysis
