Sickle cell patients can require frequent blood transfusions throughout their lives. • The number of whole blood and red blood cell units collected in the U.S. in a year: 13.6 million. • Blood cannot be manufactured – it can only come from generous donors. • Type AB positive plasma can be transfused to patients of all other blood types and is usually in short supply. Be The Match On Campus UIUC - www.facebook.com/UIUCBeTheMatchBe The Match Registry is operated by the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to creating an opportunity for all patients to receive the marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant they need, when they need it. Students help to raise fund to support the patients or spread the words out to raise awareness in the community and promote participation in Be The Match Registry to become a donor for bone marrow.

Illini Medical Screening Society (IMSS) - www.illinimss.orgIMSS is a registered student organization at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign devoted to preventing disease through the process of medical screening and health care education. IMSS provides the low-income and uninsured citizens of Champaign County a free medical screening service where individuals at risk for heart disease are referred to follow-up at local free health clinics.
