WHO IS COVEREDTo be eligible for this Warranty, you must meet the eligibility requirements noted at the end of this document, and you must be the original consumer purchaser (i.e., the homeowner, not the installer or contractor), or the first transferee from the original consumer purchaser, of a complete “Roofing System” from Owens Corning installed on a single-family residential home with a roof no larger than 150 “Roofing Squares.” A “Roofing Square” is equal to 100 square feet of roof area.

WHAT IS COVEREDThis Warranty covers your complete Owens Corning Roof System, which includes your Owens Corning roofing shingles, Owens Corning Hip & Ridge shingles and starter shingle products, Owens Corning ventilation products, and Owens Corning waterproofing underlayments. Workmanship performed installing the Owens Corning products is also covered.

WORKMANSHIP TERMSThis Warranty covers workmanship for a period of time as described in the terms below. Workmanship includes any defective application of the product. The Workmanship Terms are only valid if the Owens Corning product is installed by an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor, per the terms and conditions of the Platinum Promise™ requirements.

LIMITED WARRANTYOwens Corning warrants to you, the registered owner of an Owens Corning Roof System, that Owens Corning will compensate you in accordance with this Warranty if:

1. Your Owens Corning Roof System does not remain free from manufacturing defects for the Warranty Term stated below or there are application errors in your Owens Corning Roof System that adversely affect their performance during the Workmanship Protection Period, or

2. Your Owens Corning Roof System is damaged by winds up to the maximum windspeed listed below or your shingles fail to seal during the applicable warranty period, or

3. You purchased shingles with Algae Protection and algal, fungal or cyanobacterial growth (algae growth) causes a pronounced discoloration of your shingles during the first 15 or 10 years.

WARRANTY DETAILSYour exclusive remedy for any part of your Owens Corning Roof System that does not perform as stated above is:

1. Platinum Promise™—100% Coverage.

a. Workmanship Protection Period. During the Workmanship Protection Period, if any part of your Owens Corning Roof System is found to have an application defect or there are application errors in your Owens Corning Roof System, Owens Corning will arrange to have your roof repaired or recovered or, at its sole option, will provide you with replacement roofing products and reimburse you for the full reasonable cost of labor and other materials to repair or recover your roof, including flashings at valleys, dormers, chimneys and plumbing vents. The costs of labor to tear off some or all of your Owens Corning Roof System and disposal are included, if necessary, to repair your roof.

b. Tru PROtection® Product Coverage. During the non-prorated period of this warranty, we will pay 100 percent of material and labor costs to repair, replace or recover defective shingles. See the chart for the specific Tru PROtection® coverage period that applies to your shingles.

Under the Platinum Promise Limited Warranty, VentSure® roofing products share the Tru PROtection coverage period of the shingle that they are installed with. For example, if a VentSure Roof Vent is applied with a 30-year shingle, the vent will be warranted for a non-prorated Tru PROtection coverage period of ten (10) years. After those ten (10) years, the Roof Vent will revert back to the standard warranty (1 year), which means its warranty will have expired. If a VentSure Rigid Strip Ridge Vent is applied with a 30-year shingle, the vent will be warranted for a non-prorated Tru PROtection coverage period of ten (10) years. After those ten (10) years it will revert to the standard warranty (20 years) and have ten (10) years of materials only coverage remaining under the prorated warranty.

TRANSFERABILITYThe Platinum Promise Limited Warranty may only be transferred one time, provided that the second owner notifies Owens Corning in writing and pays the $100.00 transfer fee within 60 days after the property transfer has occurred. If the transfer takes place within the Workmanship Protection Period (15 or 10 years dependent upon the shingle selected), the balance of the remaining Workmanship Protection Period will transfer to the second owner. However, if the transfer takes place after the Workmanship Protection Period, workmanship is not covered and only manufacturing defects will be covered at a prorated adjustment as outlined in the Warranty Details section of this Warranty.

WHAT IS NOT COVEREDIf the shingles that you purchased were not specifically labeled as “Algae Resistant” Owens Corning will not be liable for and this Warranty does not apply to:

1. Damage to your Owens Corning Roof System resulting from anything other than a manufacturing defect in the Owens Corning Roof System products on your roof, their misapplication or their failure to seal, such as:

a. Subsequent structural changes or alterations to your roof, such as installation of equipment on your roof (for example, solar heating or air conditioning equipment or TV antennas).

b. Inadequate attic ventilation or application of shingles directly to insulation orto an insulated deck.

2. Damage to your Owens Corning Roof System resulting from causes beyond normal wear and tear, such as:

a. Acts of nature, such as hail, strong storms or winds over the maximum windspeed listed in this Warranty, or ice damming above the area covered by leak barriers or above flashings.

b. Impact of foreign objects or traffic on the roof.

c. Improper storage or handling of any roofing products.

3. Shading or variations in the color of your shingles, or discoloration or con-tamination caused by fungus, algae (unless your shingles were sold with Algae Protection) or other contaminants.

4. Damages caused by, or the cost to repair or replace, products not supplied by Owens Corning, except for those specifically included above.

5. Improperly designed or installed gutter or downspout systems.

SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE WARRANTYTHIS WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE AND REPLACES ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. This written Warranty is your exclusive warranty from Owens Corning and represents the SOLE REMEDY available to any owner of Owens Corning’s roofing products. Owens Corning makes NO OTHER REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTY of any kind other than that stated herein. Owens Corning WILL NOT BE LIABLE IN ANY EVENT FOR CONSEQUENTIAL, INDIRECT OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, including DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR OR EXTERIOR OF ANY BUILDING, whether for breach of this Warranty, negligence, strict liability in tort, or for any other cause. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages so the above exclusions or limitations may not apply to you.

NO MODIFICATIONS TO THIS WARRANTYThis Warranty may not be changed or modified. No one, including any representative or employee of Owens Corning, has authority to assume any additional liability or responsibility for Owens Corning in connection with your roofing products except as described in this Warranty. This Warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may have other rights which vary from state to state.

CLAIMS PROCESSTo make a claim under this warranty, you need to do so within thirty (30) days after you discover the problem.

Explain the problem and include your warranty registration number, which you will find in your acceptance letter. Shortly after we receive your communication, we will contact you regarding your claim and walk you through the entire process. To fully evaluate your claim, we may ask you to provide, at your expense, pictures of your roofing system components and/or component samples for us to test. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS WARRANTYTo be eligible for this Warranty, you must follow these requirements:

1. Your roof system must be installed by an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor who is authorized by Owens Corning to register the Owens Corning Platinum Promise Limited Warranty. Platinum Preferred Contractors shall install the roof as per the specifications outlined in 2–10, below.

2. Your roof system must be installed according to installation requirements published by Owens Corning and in accordance with all generally accepted good roofing practices (using NRCA standard application guidelines) and all local building code requirements which are in effect at the time of installation.

3. The roof system must not be installed over an existing roof—all existing materials must be removed to the deck. All rotten or damaged wood fascia, trim, or decking must be replaced, and decking must conform to APA recommendations.

4. You must use Owens Corning asphalt shingles.

5. You must use Owens Corning VentSure ventilation ridge vents or off ridge vents in conjunction with adequate soffit ventilation, and the roof system ventilation must meet FHA Minimum Property Standards.

6. You must use Owens Corning Hip & Ridge shingles that conform to the number of warranty years in the field of the roof. Classic® shingles may be used for ridge on 20-year applications; Supreme® shingles may be used for ridge on 20- or 25-yearapplications. Prominence® AR shingles can be used for Prominence AR only. For 30-year and longer shingle warranties, High Style® Hip & Ridge, High Ridge Hip & Ridge, or Perforated Hip & Ridge shingles are required.

7. You must use Owens Corning WeatherLock® Waterproofing Underlayment in valleys and around dormers, sidewalls, firewalls, chimneys and plumbing vents. In addition, in the North (see map), Owens Corning WeatherLock Waterproofing Underlayment must also be used at all eaves to at least 24" inside of the warm wall. In the South and the Northwest (see map), Owens Corning WeatherLock Waterproofing Underlayment products are optional and highly recommended (but not required unless dictated by local building code) to be used at all eaves as further protection against wind-driven rains. Owens Corning WeatherLock Waterproofing Underlayment products are optional and highly recommended (but not required unless dictated by local building code) to be used at all roof rakes and other vulnerable leak areas.

8. You must use underlayment felts that meet ASTM D-226.

9. New metal flashing(s) and drip edge must be installed. Step flashing is required for sidewall and chimney applications. Counter flashing is required per NRCA guidelines where applicable.

10. During installation, the Platinum Preferred Contractor will ensure that all required details and flashings are correctly installed as per the Owens Corning and NRCA requirements. Upon completion, your roof system must be inspected by the installing contractor and determined to be in compliance with the above-listed Eligibility Requirements numbered 1–9.

Exceptions to the above requirements must be noted in the “Owens Corning Roof System Warranty Exceptions Addendum” form. If any exceptions are noted and approved prior to registration of the Warranty, Owens Corning will issue a Warranty, but Owens Corning will not assume liability for any roofing problems related to the exceptions noted. In addition to complying with the requirements above, your contrac-tor must complete the Warranty registration process within 90 days of completing the installation, including submittal of an approved “Owens Corning Roof System Warranty Exceptions Addendum” form along with the appropriate registration fee.

2. Balance of Warranty After Workmanship Protection Period and Tru PROtection Period Expire. After the Workmanship Protection Period, misapplication is not covered. The remainder of your warranty will cover manufacturing defects only. If you have a manufactur-ing defect, Owens Corning will provide you with the replacement roofing products and reimburse you for the reasonable cost of labor and other materials to repair or recover your roof, including flashings at valleys, dormers, chimneys and plumbing vents based upon a prorated basis. Proration reflects the amount of use you have received from your roof. The percentage it will be prorated against the Dollar/Sq. Value is shown below. The amount of use (or proration) is calculated by dividing the number of years which have elapsed since installation by the number of years in the Warranty Term.

3. For Wind Damage (12-year coverage). If your shingles are blown off or damaged by winds up to the maximum windspeed listed in this Warranty or fail to seal during the first twelve (12) years after application, Owens Corning will reimburse you only for the reasonable costs of replacing the blown-off shingles and hand sealing any remaining unsealed shingles.

4. For Algae Discoloration (15- or 10-year coverage depending on the type of Algae Resistance shingle purchased). See product literature for details on availability and length of Algae Resistance coverage.

a. If your shingles have been applied for less than one (1) year, Owens Corning’s contribution will be either the cost of cleaning your shingles or the cost to repair or recover your shingles, up to a maximum of the original installed cost of the affected shingles.

b. For the next nine (9) or fourteen (14) years, Owens Corning’s contribution will be based upon the Dollar/Sq. Value listed in this Warranty, reduced by the amount of use you have received from your shingles. Decisions as to the extent of repair, recover or cleaning required, and the reasonable cost of such work will be made solely by Owens Corning. The remedy under this Warranty is available only for those parts of your Owens Corning Roof System actually exhibiting algae growth at the time of settlement. Any replacement Owens Corning Roof System products will be warranted only for the remainder of the original warranty period. Owens Corning reserves the right to discontinue or modify its shingles, including the colors available, so any replacement shingles may not be an exact match for the shingles on your roof.
