and was the summer retreat for Edison and Ford’s friends, family and many of the early industrial entrepreneurs. Together with the beautiful historic houses of Edison and Ford, the estate houses a large museum and theatre, which provides hours of insight into the minds and lives of these two great inventors and industrialists. For those interested in a ‘Holiday Walking Light Tour’, the Edison & Ford Estate has a holiday light display scheduled from November 28th through December 30th. We were fortunate to see all the houses and p r o p e r t y a l r e a d y decorated for what looks to be a beautiful e v e n i n g viewing event.Following the Edison & Ford tour we walked over to Pincher’s Restaurant, which overlooks the Caloosahatchee River for a great lunch and fellowship.By the time we boarded the bus back to Venice, everyone was ready for a well-deserved Florida nap.Remember to support your clubs many events in 2019, the events committee has planned many to choose from!!

The day started as a typical fall Florida morning, cool, clear and sunny skies! A group of our members started off the day with breakfast at IHOP before boarding our All Around Motor Coach. Our driver, George, provided VIP service and care from beginning to end. Twenty-one AACA Venice Region members and guests took part in the clubs November tour of
the Edison & Ford Estate in Ft. Myers. We were greeted by our private tour guide, Dan, who spent the next two and a half hours providing the group with all the history and behind the scene glimpses into the lives of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and the history of the estate. The estate, a true garden paradise, referred to as Edison’s jungle is located on the shores of the Gulf. The estate houses Thomas Edison’s experimental labs where he developed many of his 1093 patents

As I write this message our Christmas party is only three weeks away and Thanksgiving is two days away! This year has sure been a blur.We had a pretty eventful month in November. The board meeting on the 6th saw Mr. Fred Noren being voted on to be our new Treasurer. Welcome Fred & Annette. Also, the Board decided to update our newsletter software from the Model “T” to the new Adobe / Acrobat
version which will be in perpetuity and will be updated as demanded by user. Our monthly meeting had fifty-eight members in attendance and a few visitors. It appears as though our winter members are returning. Member Frank Royer put on our evening program about his “Honor Flight” to Washington D.C. What an honor to have bestowed upon our veterans. Any veteran who has an interest in learning more about this opportunity should talk with Frank. About 24-25 members attended the Social Dinner Hour at Abby’s on Miami and all raved about their wonderful meals. Sounds like a repeat performance may be coming? The new Car Show Committee Chairman & Co-Chairman were introduced and outlined what they hoped to accomplish between now and January 1st. They have about a dozen sub-committees, that will need volunteers to aid them in the organizing and arrangement of the various jobs needing to be filled. We met with the City of Venice and have secured our date of March 31, 2019 for the show. Should you wish to volunteer please call or text: Dennis Nubile 413-531-9762 or Rich Albrecht 941-497-6452.On the 17th we did our bus tour to Edison & Ford Museum in Ft. Myers. We had a docent led tour of about 24-25 attractions. Very interesting. Then a very relaxing lunch at Pinchers Restaurant a stones throw away from the grounds. We returned to Venice about 3pm that day. Nice job, Rich Albrecht, on putting together another nice tour.We have two events coming in December. The Elks Car Show at Knights Trail Road off of Laurel Rd. in Venice on 12/1/18 Saturday 11:00 – 2:00. (need a good showing). Our Christmas Party December 10, Monday 5:00pm at Beyond the Sea Restaurant in Englewood. We guaranteed them 80 people. They are usually closed that day BUT are opening just for our party. We currently have 64 people coming. The price of $25.00 per person includes meal, gratuity, tax and entertainment. Our final commitment day is December 5th. Please call Bunny Nubile 941-240-2428 for your reservations or mail your check with FORM in this newsletter.May you all have a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

Abarth offered their Type 750 derivative of the Fiat 600 both with the original (“Berlina”) bodywork and with more slippery bodywork from others. Most famous is the aerodynamic Zagato-bodied range of Abarth 750 cars. Appearing in early 1956, Abarth’s 750 Gran Turismo Derivazione was the first Abarth product to use the standard Fiat bodywork. Fiat delivered these cars incomplete, to make it easier and more cost effective for Abarth to carry out their performance modifications. The engine displacement was enlarged thanks to a wider bore and a longer stroke. Sharper cams, lighter flywheel, a bigger carburetor, and a myriad other traditional tuning tricks were employed; as a result the power output nearly doubled. The aerodynamic 750 Zagato was offered in a more luxurious variant for export (called the “America”, as it was almost strictly meant for the United States) and a stripped down model with lower, uncovered headlamps and smaller taillights for the domestic Italian market. There was also this very rare Zagato Roadster version produced, only between two and four examples are believed to have been built. Photos courtesy of Auta 5P.

Fred Noren was born in Massachusetts but at an early age his family moved to Florida. Since he grew up in St. Pete, he has always considered himself a Floridian or “from Florida”, no matter where he was. His wife Annette is a Florida native who was born in St. Pete. His first car was a ’52 Buick, his second car was a ’55 Pontiac and his third car was a ’60 Chevy – all in the space of 2 years. If only he still had just one of those today. Today his classic car is a ’72 Chevy Monte Carlo. It was purchased new by Annette’s mother who owned it for 21 years. Fred has now owned the car for 25 years but inside the family it will always be known as “Betty’s Car”.
FRED NOREN ~ TREASURER
During the Viet Nam era Fred enlisted in the Air Force and spent 3 years in Alaska. Halfway through his tour of duty he and Annette were married. He brought her to Fairbanks in January. She had never seen snow. The temperature was 8 below zero. Welcome to Alaska! After his enlistment was up Fred began his career as a draftsman for Florida Power. A few years later he missed the mountains so he moved his family west and ended up in Denver for most of his career. As an Electrical Designer he designed electrical and control systems for power plants, oil and gas plants and nuclear facilities. A couple of times he even found himself back in Alaska working for Arco on the North Slope. While living in Denver, Fred and Annette became involved in a new church-plant that was started by the church they were attending. His detailed engineering background came in handy as he served as Treasurer and Financial Secretary for six years, setting up the system and keeping track of all of the church finances. When it came time to retire Annette said – “You’ve had your mountains, now we’re going back to my beaches”. And here they are.
AACA MUSEUM IN HERSHEY, PAClub members, Paul and Deb
Rauch, share their photos from when they stopped by the AACA Museum. They even got a special
