For your safety, follow ALL instruct ions in th is manual to min imize the r isk of fire , e lectr ic shock, exposure to oz one gas, prope r t y damage , perso na l injury, or loss of life .

2. Ozone safety information

The ZONO provides the benefit s o f ozone gas san it iz ing in a sa fe and e ffect ive environment when you fo llow the instruct ions in th is manual.

Oz one h as b ee n u s ed as a p owe rfu l o rgan ic s an it iz e r s ince the 1900s . In fact, m os t b ott led water is tre ate d us ing oz one, and oz onated water is used to tre at fru itand vegetab les . We based the ZONO on m od ern oz onesanit iz ing technology used in the m ed ical device and food industries .

Ozone exposure guidance

The National Inst itute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Occupational Safety and Health Associat ion (OSHA) have set an oz one exposure gu idance leve l at 0 .1 p arts p er million (ppm ) in an 8 -hour p er io d .

Ozone sensors

To ensure that the OSHA exposure gu idance lim it is never exceeded, the oz one sensors in the ZONO cont inuous ly monitor the ozone levels oth INSIDE and OUTSIDE the cabinet. These sensors can detect oz one at less than 0 .1 pp m .

• Oz one leve ls INSIDE the ZONO are h igher than theguidance level for as long as 2 8 minutes durin g theSANITIZE cycle. The sens ors prevent the magnet ic door lockfrom opening when the oz one level is too high.

• If the sensors detect oz one at a h igher than 0 .1 pp mconcentration OUTSIDE th e ZONO, the cabinetautomatically stop s generat ing oz one and sound s analarm .

Color and odor

Oz one is a color less gas. The character ist ic odor is often descr ibed as s imilar to the s m e ll of e lectrical sparks or the fresh scent after a thunderstorm or heavy rain .

Page 5: Owner’s Manual - ZONO Technologies

5

DO NOT INHALE OZONE GAS! Short term inhalation of high o z o n e co n ce n t r a t io n s , and long-term inhalation of low oz on e concentrat ion s can cause serious harmful physiological effects.

Effects of short-term, low exposure

Short-term low exposure to oz one can cause any of the following temporary effects : head aches, sore throats, and irritat ion in the eyes and nose.

Page 6: Owner’s Manual - ZONO Technologies

Do not lean against the ZONO during the Heat cycle.

Do NOT run any potentially flammable items, such as paint, markers, etc., through a HEAT cycle.

3. Heat safety information

This in formation applies to ZONO mod e ls with the HEAT option.

The HEAT cycle kills lice and b ed bugs . Do NOT use the HEAT cyc le for any other

reason.

Outside cabinet temperature

Dur in g the Heat cycle , the outs ide surface of the cabinet may reach temperatures of 110 degrees Fahrenheit . This temperature is b e low the ASTM C1 0 5 5 recommendat ion , which calls for the exter ior of devices to remain at or be low 140 degrees.

Inside temperature

The temperature ins id e the ZONO may reach 1 5 0 degrees Fahrenheit dur ing a HEAT cycle. Make sure that any objects p laced with in the cabinet can withstand th is temperature.

Do not overload the Mat Rack.

Don’t drape items on top of the Mat Rack after it is

loaded.

Mat Rack

Each Mat Rack hold s as m any as s ix p added mats between metal ” fingers .” The Mat Racks allow air-flow essent ia l to proper sanit izat ion.

Most cr ib mattresses fit in the Mat Rack, but s ince they are often thicker than mats, you may not be able to load s ix . Make sure there is enough p ace between mattresses (or any other objects load ed in the Mat Rack) to a llow air to flow between them . 1 . Insert mats or other item s up r ight , with or without sheets , in to the

Emergency Overview

Highly react ive, oz on e concentrat ions above 15% can explode on contact with organic sub s tances , especially strong reduc ing agents . Oz one is a powerfu l oxidizing agent and ox idat ion with oz one evolve s m ore heat and usually starts at a lower temperature than oxidat ion with oxygen. It re acts with non-saturated organic compounds to produce ozonides, which are unstab le and may decompose with exp los ive violence. Oz one is an unstab le gas , which , at normal temp eratures , decomposes to d iatomic oxygen. At e levated temperatures and in the presence of certain catalysts such as hydrogen, iron , copper and ch ro m iu m , th is decomposit ion maybe explos ive .

Potential Health Effects Inhalation: Causes dryness of the mouth, coughing , and irritates the nose, throat, and chest and may cause difficulty in breathing, headache, and fatigue. The characteristic sharp, irritat ing odor is readily detectable at low concentrat ions (0 .0 1 to 0.0 5 pp m ). Skin: Absorpt ion through intact skin is not expected . Eye Contact: Oz one is an ir r itant to the eyes caus ing pa in , lacr imat ion , and genera l inflammation. Ingestion: Not an expected route of exposure. Aggravation of Pre-existing Conditions: Oz on e may increase sens it ivity to bronchoconstr ic tors inc luding a llergens .

Page 49: Owner’s Manual - ZONO Technologies

First Aid Measures

Inhalation: Remove to fresh air; if breathing is difficult, a trained person should administer oxygen. If respirat ion stop s , g ive mouth-to-mouth resusc itat ion. Get m edical attention. Ingestion: Not an expected route of exposure. Skin Contact: Wash sk in thoroughly with soap and water . Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes, while forcibly holding eyelids apart to ensure flushing of the entire eye surface. If ir r itat ion, pain , or other symptom s pers ist , s eek medical at tent ion. Acute: May cause irritat ion of skin , eyes , and mucous membranes o f the respiratory tract . Drowsiness , d izziness , head ache, and fat igue have bee n associated with exposure. Chronic: Long term health effects are not expected from expos ures to oz one. A part ia l to lerance appears to develop with repeated exposures.

Fire Fighting Measures

Flash Point: Not determine d . Auto ignition Temperature: Not determined . Flammable Limits in air, % by vol - Upper: Lower: Not determined .

Extinguishing Media: Use extinguishing media suitable for surrounding fires.

Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazard: None expected . Since oz one is h igh ly unstable and decomposes under all condit ions and is not encountered except at s m a ll levels in the immediate vicin ity where form ed .

Accidental Release Measures

Evacuate d anger area. Op en doors and windows to ventilate area. Consult an expert .

Oz one should be contained within a chemically compat ib le pip ing system . Oz one is a powerful oxidizing agent and ox idat ion with oz on e evo lves m ore heat and usually starts at a lower temperature than oxidat ion with oxygen. It reacts with non-saturated organic compound s to produce ozonides, which are unstab le and may decompose with explosive vio lence. Oz one is an unstable gas which , at normal temperatures , decomposes to diatomic oxygen.

Exposure Controls/Personal

Protection Exposure Guidelines: OSHA PEL: 0 .1 0 -p p m PEL/ TLV Ventilation Requirements: General exhaust recommended. Avoid work ing with oz one- generat ing equipment in enc losed spaces .

Specific Personal Protective Equipment : Respiratory: Respirators may be used when engineer ing and work practice controls are not technically feasible , when such controls are in the process of be ing installed , or when they fail and need to be supplemented . Respirators may also b e used for ope rat ions which re quire entry into tanks or c losed vesse ls , and in emergency s ituations . Only a p p r o p ria t e respirators s hall be provide d and used when the use of respirators is the only means of controlling exposure for rout ine operat ions, or during an emergency. (Refer to Table 1 of ANSUI/ ASTM E5 91-77 for appropriate respirator se lect ion). Posit ive press ure a ir line with mask or se lf-contained breathing apparatus should be available for emergency use. Eye: Not necessary. Gloves: Not necessary. Toxicological Information Oz one is extremely irritat ing to t h e u p p e r a n d lo we r resp iratory tra ct. The character is t ic odor is readily detectable at low concentrat ions (0 .02 pp m to 0 .0 5ppm ). Oz one pro duces local irritat ion o f th e eyes and mucous membranes and may cause pulmonary ed em a at h igh exposure. Systematically, oz one has b e e n r e p o r t e d to m im ic the effects of ion iz ing rad iat ion and may cause damage to chromosomal structures. A part ia l tolerance ap pears to develop with repeated exposure. Although most effects are acute , the possibility of chron ic lung impairment should be considered , based up on animal exper imentat ion.

Warranty Provider will provide End User, free of charge, one (1) replacement ozone sensor for each year of the Warranty Period after the first year (End User is responsible for providing Warranty Provider with End User’s current contact information). Required annual replacement of ozone sensor after the Warranty Period is not covered; however, End User may purchase replacement ozone sensors from Warranty Provider following the Warranty Period and obtain additional service on a fee-for-service basis. END USER OBLIGATIONS. During Warranty Period, End User shall promptly report to Warranty Provider any apparent ZONO malfunction or any service alert indicated on the ZONO’s Display Screen. Warranty Provider will diagnose performance issues and determine the need for service, repair or replacement of covered items. If Warranty Provider ships a replacement part to End User or provides End User with a “loaner” part or ZONO to be used while End User’s covered part is repaired, End User shall pay Warranty Provider’s full retail price, plus shipping, upon invoice, for any such part or ZONO if End User fails or refuses to return the damaged or loaner part or machine, as applicable, upon Warranty Provider’s request and at its expense. WARRANTY LIMITATIONS. This Warranty benefits only the End User designated above, during the applicable Warranty Period, and is expressly limited to defects in materials and workmanship (and to provide for the annual replacement of the ZONO Sanitizer’s ozone sensor during the Warranty Period). The Warranty Period shall terminate, and all remaining warranties and service obligations shall be void, without refund, if Warranty Provider determines, in its sole discretion, that (i) Equipment damage is the result of abuse, accident, modification, misuse, neglect, failure to perform standard recommended maintenance, vandalism, theft, fire, water, or casualty; (ii) repair has been attempted without Warranty Provider’s written permission (including opening machine for inspection) by any person other than Warranty Provider or its authorized technician’ or (iii) the Equipment is no longer the property of the End User set forth above. Scratches in sheet metal, glass or polycarbonate doors, or other cosmetic damages, including surface corrosion, from detergents, cleaners, lubricants or other chemicals are not covered. Warranty Provider is not responsible for End user’s loss of use or income under any circumstances during such time as Equipment is nonfunctioning, under repair, or awaiting replacement. End User’s sole remedy for any claim against Warranty Provider shall be the repair or replacement of applicable Equipment. Warranty Provider is not responsible for any damages, claims or losses, including, without limitation, consequential damages, exemplary damages, attorney’s fees or defense costs, arising out of, in connection with, or related to End User’s operation, maintenance and use of the Equipment, including, without limitation: (A) any sickness, injury or death resulting from use of the Equipment in a manner for which it was not designed or intended or in any manner contrary to the instruction manual or any direction or instruction by manufacturer, distributor, service technician, or Warranty Provider; (B) any sickness, injury or death resulting from End User’s failure properly to secure or maintain the Equipment; (C) any sickness, injury or death resulting from improper use of the Equipment or any use of the Equipment by any person not trained by End User in the use of the Equipment as required in the instruction manual; (C) any unauthorized modification of any Equipment; (D) any third party claim against End User or its employees or agents, or in connection with any Equipment under End user’s jurisdiction or control.
