13th January Choices for Options Taster Day – Students will choose 4 subjects to attend during Taster Sessions (these are not their option choices at this stage. It is an opportunity to experience subjects they are considering).
19th January Options Taster Day – Students receive information and guidance on career paths as well as attend lessons based on their choices for Taster Day
26th January (6:00pm – 8:00pm)
Options Evening – Presentation in theatre to all parent/carers and talks given by all Option subjects explaining their GCSE.
30th January Year 8 Parents Evening – Opportunity to speak to all subject staff to discuss your child’s progress and information about the GCSE.
01st February Year 8 Option Choices Deadline using Insight (insight.coxgreen.com).
Mid-February Personalised meetings with students following option choices.
Mid-March Letters to parents confirming option choices.

Berkshire Cross Country Championships
Luke-Lom Hynes from Year 8 won a silver medal in U13 Boys Berkshire Cross Country Championships and he has qualified for the Cross Country Inter-Counties Championship in Birmingham on March 11th.
Anuucha Hynes, Katie Crowhurst and Abbie Jones also competed in Berkshire Cross Country Championships.

British Synchronised Skating Championships at the National Ice Centre
Nottingham 14th and 15th January 2017
Emma and Laura Carpenter will be competing in the Ice skating championships this weekend in
Nottingham. It's a special year for them both as they are Captain and Vice Captain of their team , so we
hope they get a chance to be on the winners podium again and add to their collection of medals.
As an addition to the championships, Emma is giving a demonstration skate with her Special People on
Ice Synchronised skating team. SPICE are the only Special Needs organisation to run a Synchronised
skating team and as such this is a special occasions for people with disabilities to perform in front of the
other skaters and spectators and especially at the British Championships.
Mobile Phones in School
Please note that the use of mobile phones are not permitted on the school
site at ANY TIME including before and after school.
Mobile phones must be switched off and will be confiscated if not.
Students must not use their mobile phone to contact parents directly.
Confiscated phones, MP3/iPods and valuables can be collect from the Main
Office between 8.30am and 4.15pm, by parents or any named contact on our school database.

Competition - Be Part of History
This summer building work will begin. We will get:
•2 new science labs
•New ICT rooms
•New classrooms
•Bigger classrooms
•More changing rooms and
•A much needed new canteen
As and when the buildings are completed we will need to name 6 teaching blocks
So…we need you to make history and name the teaching blocks.
You need to: 1. Identify 6 names, 1 for each of the 6 teaching blocks. You will be renaming Lower School, Sports Academy, Main School, Science/Maths, 6th form/Music and Sports Note: Each of the 6 names will need to start with a different letter eg: Astor, Brunel, Spencer 2. Tell us in no more than 100 words why the teaching blocks should be named in this way. 3. Closing date for entries will be Wed 25th January at 9am. 4. Entries should be emailed to:

Library News
Students - How to print work from a library computer
When printing, you must wait for an onscreen box to confirm that you want to print. Click ‘Yes’.
The printer is black and white, and printing is free.
You can use Access, Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint on the library computers.
You can bring in work from home on a memory stick, to print off in breaktime. The computers are all on Windows 7. Word Games Wednesday Come along to the Library on Wednesdays in Break 1 and Break 2, and enjoy the selection of word games, wordsearches and crosswords for you to play in the Library. There is a different selection each week, so come and try. Everyone welcome! FREE websites from home all about Famous People Who’s Who contains over 33,000 short biographies of noteworthy and influential individuals alive today, from all over the world. Who Was Who is the archive, dating back to 1898, of people who were included in ‘Who’s Who’ before they died. Your library card barcode number is the Username and no PIN is needed.
