This month broght two rsts or me: A fight

to LA, copled by a road trip to Vegas. Ivenever been to either city save or the occa-sional layover, and I mst admit, Im going

back to Cali.

The bzz in Cali is crazy. Its like everybody in Cali isgrinding toward something, bt its more o a relaxedbzz rather then the ast-orward, constant hstle andbstle o the New York City streets. I cold live o thatenergy jst by itsel.

There is something to be said abot the essence o thegrind. Sometimes the simple energy gained rom thegrind is more motivating then the need or ood andshelter, and that energy maniests itsel in the concrete

jngles o the two cities where Hip Hop was born.

Everybody in LA has a hstle; whether its the rit manon the corner (by the way, since when is ccmber arit?) the shirt slingers at the BET Awards, the starimpersonators on Hollywood Blvd, or the contlessrappers, singers, and prodcers, banging down thedoor at all the networking events at the endless nm-ber o record labels. Everybody and their mama, ncles,second cosins twice removed, and their babys mamahas a hstle.

The other thing I learned in LA: Roscoes Chicken andWafes is the only place to eat when in the Golden

LA is the kind o a city that can make yo, or destroyyo. There is no happy medim. The late great Tpacsmmed it p best: To Live and Die in LA.

And then theres the other part o my jorney, theroadtrip to Vegas or Mz. JBs Birthday party. Need I saymore? That was jst a whirlwind. I let LA @ oclockater getting lost in downtown LA or bot an hor ortwo then few to Las Vegas and got there right arondmidnight. I nally made it JBs party at Poetry jst intime to get some interesting pics o the many VIPhappenings. We all know the motto: What happens inVegas

Unknown to many, Colby ODonis is already ten years in the game.or most, thats not a big deal. Given the amont o wannaberappers in the world trying to break into an already oversatratedindstry, there is no longer sch thing as an overnight celebrity.

The grind or most to get to the national stage is at least ve years, i yoreextremely talented, and extremely lcky. Whats niqe abot Colbys sita-tion is the act that the kid is only nineteen.

Dont go the Solja Boy rote stereotype him becase o his age, thogh. Theboy is a grinder. Colby was homeschooled his whole lie, so while getting anedcation he was able to indepdently release six albms. At the age o tenhis single Mose In The Hose was the eatre track on the major motionpictre sondtrack Start Little. And with more than a ew years to hone hiscrat, Colby, the singer, songwriter, and msician (something as rare to nd intodays indstry as a wannabe singer/actress/model that hasnt dated lavorlav) wrote o the tracks o his pcoming albm Colby O, inclding hishit single What Yo Got and newest release Dont Trn Back.

Three years ago, the baby ace phenom was discovered by Mr. Konvict Msichimsel, Akon, and has been in the stdio and on tor ever since. I pt in mydemo, and it eatred both my writing and my prodction. He heard it, androm there we really jst got together more and more and eventally he jst

told me that he wanted me to be a part o his label. Akon is an amazing gy.Its denitely been a pls working with him, and hes denitely been helpingme with everythings thats been going on with my career. Hes like a bigbrother.

With talents inclding prodction, playing the gitar and piano, and o corsesinging and songwriting, it seems pretty evident that Colby has the depth to

last in the indstry or easily another decade. And althogh he is well versedin the art orm, Colby hopes to one day expand beyond the msic scene. Eventhogh hes yong, he doesnt seem to be lost in the trappings o the trb-lent and ever-changing Hip Hop scene.

Right now the main ocs is denitely the msic, he says rmly. I jst wantto get that locked and then well go rom there. Once the msic takes o Imdenitely going the entreprener rote. I absoltely love the bsiness, so Imdenitely going to be getting into other things.

And with a big brother like Akon, it sholdnt be too hard to nd somethingmore to get into.
