• The ozonesonde activity at Belgrano II was started in May, 1999 as part of long term program to study destruction of Antarctic ozone layer. This program is funded by INTA, Spanish Antarctic Program and Dirección Nacional del Antártico (Argentina).

• The activity at the station has continued since then with two soundings/month in summer and autumn and more frequently during winter and spring.

2005 Ozone behaviour at BelgranoThe seasonal evolution of ozone at Belgrano is characterize by a slowly ozone increase in the lower stratosphere due to dynamical processes from summer until ozone destruction by chemical processes start at the end of July or beginning of August. The destruction occurs in the region between 12 and 20 km leading to a nearly complete O3 removal by the first week of October. From mid October ozone starts to increase from the upper levels to lower levels. The arrows at the base indicate the time of each sounding.
