Harness: Shoulder straps are attached to a splitter plate behind seat. Both
strap ends are attached to one hook on splitter plate. Pull slack out of lap
straps up toward shoulders and pull adjuster strap end in front of seat to
tighten harness. Restraint has Click & Safe™ audible harness snugness
indicator. Indicator may click prematurely, indicating harness is tight; check
harness for tightness. Lift adjuster lever at lower front of seat and pull on
harness retainer clip to loosen. Lap straps are threaded through slots near
child’s hips to anchors underneath seat. Open CLICKTIGHT system (pg. 2,
diagram 6) to confirm webbing is attached to anchors (diagram 1).
Length of strap must be shortened for child under two. To
shorten length, disconnect strap from anchor at hip (diagram 1).
Route strap around bar (diagram 2) and re-attach to anchor. Impact
absorbing pads on shoulder straps may be removed when
rear-facing if desired, but their use is “highly recommended” by
manufacturer when child is forward-facing.
Harness slots: There is one set of slots, which may be raised or
lowered by squeezing handle at top of headrest and sliding into
one of fourteen locked positions.
Crotch strap: There are two positions. Outer slot must be used
when child is forward-facing. To change position, open
CLICKTIGHT (pg. 2, diagram 6), peel back seat cover and turn
buckle webbing, sliding it to desired position (diagram 3). Position
buckle in slot closest to, but not under, child for rear-facing.

Angle adjustment: There are seven recline positions.
To adjust recline, pull handle under front of restraint and
rotate restraint until ball is in appropriate section for child
(diagram 4). Light blue area is for infants with no head or
neck control, dark blue is for larger babies with head and
neck control, and green is for forward-facing kids.
Belt path: When LATCH is not in use, store LATCH
connectors in compartment behind seat (diagram 5). Do not install
restraint using inflatable safety belt.
Rear-facing:
Lap and shoulder belt installation: CLICKTIGHT dial is located a
few inches above the harness adjustment strap. Press dimple in
CLICKTIGHT dial and rotate clockwise (diagram 6) until CLICKTIGHT
releases; then, lift to open. Insert lap and shoulder portions through rear-
facing belt path (diagram 7) and remove slack from lap portion of belt. Do
not over tighten, or CLICKTIGHT will not close. Close CLICKTIGHT,
making sure the dial has rotated back to its original position.
Lap-only belt: CLICKTIGHT system does not function as
a lock-off with a lap-only belt, so lap-only belt MUST lock
pre-crash. Open CLICKTIGHT as above, route lap-only belt
through rear-facing belt path (diagram 6), buckle safety belt,
remove slack, and close CLICKTIGHT.
Forward-facing:
Lap and shoulder belt installation: CLICKTIGHT dial is
located a few inches above the harness adjustment strap. Press
dimple in CLICKTIGHT dial and rotate clockwise (diagram 6) until
CLICKTIGHT releases; then, lift to open. Insert lap and shoulder
portions through forward-facing belt path (diagram 8) and remove
slack from lap portion of belt. Do not over tighten, or CLICKTIGHT
will not close. Close CLICKTIGHT, making sure the dial has rotated
back to its original position.
Lap-only belt: CLICKTIGHT system does not function
as a lock-off with a lap-only belt, so lap-only belt MUST lock pre-crash. Open Clicktight as
above, route lap-only belt through forward-facing belt path (diagram 8), buckle safety belt,
remove slack, and close Clicktight.

LATCH: Discontinue use of lower anchors in rear-facing mode when child
is 30 lbs. Discontinue use of lower anchors in forward-facing mode when
child is 35 lbs. Open CLICKTIGHT (pg. 2, diagram 6), then open LATCH
storage compartment at back of restraint (pg. 2, diagram 4). Pull LATCH
strap to its full length, route LATCH strap through appropriate belt path,
remove slack in LATCH strap by pulling on adjuster, and close
CLICKTIGHT. Lower LATCH bars may be used in center seating
position when position is designated as a LATCH location in vehicle
owner's manual and when distance between bars is between 11
and 20 inches (refer to LATCH manual).
Tether: Yes. Store tether in compartment at top of seat (diagram 9)
when not in use. Seat has a rip-stitch tether. A
loop of webbing is sewn with colored stitching
into each end of tether; if stitching is broken
and/or loops pulled through backside of
restraint (diagram 10), discontinue use of
restraint.
Rear-facing use:
Models produced through January, 2015: Tether may be used to help
stability of installation (diagram 11). To anchor, loop tether connector strap
provided (diagram 12) around a fixed vehicle belt anchor or vehicle seat leg and
attach tether hook to fabric loop (diagram 13). These anchor locations do not
need to be designated as tether anchors by vehicle manufacturer. Do not attach
connector strap to any location where it will be disturbed if front seat passenger
slides vehicle seat forward or back. Test by adjusting vehicle seat as far
as possible in both directions after installation. Tether strap may also be
routed toward back of vehicle and attached to tether anchor
(diagram 10, b). Do not over tighten tether.
Models produced after January, 2015: Do not tether rear-
facing. Optional anti-rebound bar for rear-facing mode (diagram 14)
may be purchased from Britax.
Forward-facing use: Tether must be attached to vehicle
manufacturer’s specified tether anchor point. Do not use tether
connector strap.
Other: Do not carry seat by its adjuster strap or harness, as adjuster
and/or webbing could be damaged.
Infant insert/body pillow may be used until child can sit
unassisted.
Restraint expires ten years from date of manufacture.
Important: This information sheet is not a substitute for complete manufacturer’s directions and current recall list.

GRACO -NAUTILUS
-NAUTILUS ELITE
-NAUTILUS WITH SAFETY SURROUND
-NAUTILUS PLUS
Type: Combination child seat/booster with removable back
Last date made: Current
First made: 2007
Weight limits: 20 to 65 lbs. with harness. Forward-facing only,
not recommended for children under two. 30 to 100 lbs. as belt-
positioning booster with vehicle lap-shoulder belt on child, 40 to
100 lbs. as backless booster
Harness: 5-point harness (removable)
Harness: The shoulder straps are attached
to a splitter plate behind the seat. The lap
straps are threaded through t-slots on
“arms” (not armrests) which are snapped into
“gutters” in base of seat, under pad (diagram 1). Pull strap end in front of
seat to tighten harness. Lift the lever at lower front of seat and pull on
shoulder straps to loosen. It is important to be sure straps are properly
secured in t-slots and “gutters” are clear of objects and padding before
snapping them into place. To check threading, lift seat pad and press
red buttons to fully recline seat back, supporting it so that it doesn’t fall
backwards when released (diagram 2).
Harness slots: There are four sets of shoulder slots. To change
shoulder slot height, remove straps from splitter plate behind seat and
rethread through desired slots. At rear of seat, straps must be routed upward
from slots, behind plastic guides, and over red rollers (diagram 3). Reattach
straps to splitter plate as before. Adjust headrest, using red release button at
top of seat, to one of 5 positions behind child’s head; check to be sure
headrest is locked into place.
Crotch strap: There are two crotch strap positions. Use the one closest
to, but not under, child. Crotch strap is sewn to a metal anchor, which must
lie flat against underside of seat. To change position, feed anchor up
through slot to top of seat and re-thread through desired slot (diagram 4).

Angle adjustment: To adjust recline, pull handle under front of
seat and lower or raise foot into one of three positions.
Belt Path: If LATCH is not in use, secure hooks to locations on
sides of seat. Do not install restraint in harness mode using
inflatable safety belt.
With harness: Vehicle belt is threaded through slots behind
seat (diagram 6). Some older models have a shoulder belt lock-off. Open lock-
off. Pull shoulder belt tight through lock-off and press lock-off closed over belt
(diagram 7). If no lock-off is present, lock safety belt or, if necessary, use
locking clip.
Without harness: Remove harness from seat and pull harness adjuster
strap out fully to secure metal splitter plate under seat. Use vehicle lap-shoulder
belt on child. Thread lap portion of belt through guide on lower side of seat
before buckling (diagram 8). Adjust headrest to one of 5 positions behind child’s
head, placing shoulder belt guides even with or just above child’s shoulders.
Check to be sure headrest is locked into place. When used without back, an
adjustable shoulder belt positioner strap is provided. Angle of shoulder belt may
be adjusted with this positioner if needed. Place clip on vehicle
shoulder belt just above child’s shoulder. Adjust length of strap
until vehicle shoulder belt is centered on child’s shoulder and
chest (diagram 9).

buttons to fully recline seat back, supporting it so that it doesn’t fall
backwards when released (diagram 10). Squeeze red release buttons
together (diagram 11) and pull backrest away from seat.
LATCH: Harness mode only. A single LATCH strap is attached to shell
through standard belt path. Depending on date of manufacture, lower
anchor weight limit is 42, 45, or 48 lbs. Check labels on restraint, or
instructions that came with CR. If vehicle manufacturer states lower
weight limit for LATCH anchors, use vehicle belt. Lower LATCH bars
may be used in center seating position only when spacing between
anchors is eleven inches or greater and position is designated as a
LATCH location in vehicle owner's manual or when vehicle manufacturer
permits use of outboard bars (refer to Safe Ride News LATCH manual).
Tether: Yes, in harness mode only. When not in use, hook to storage bar on
rear of seat.
Other: When in booster mode, no portion of child restraint may extend
beyond edge of vehicle seat (diagram 12).
Some models may include a body support cushion, which may only be
used when harness is in lowest set of slots..
Some models have adjustable head wings. Press down on the red
buttons on either side of the wings and rotate them to desired position
(diagram 13).
Expiration date is molded into plastic on underside of restraint
(diagram 14).
A very small number of consumers have experienced
difficulty with the harness buckle on older models. If this is the case,
consumer should clean buckle following directions in manufacturer's
instructions. If cleaning buckle does not correct the problem,
consumer should contact Graco customer service.
