RDSO/PEISPEC/AC/0080-2019fRev-2lforPush Pull operation Description For control data /signal transfer between the two locomotives through rake for push pull operation as per Elect. {Loco) Die. Modification sheet mentioned in clause 3.2, laying of 2 sets of wired · train Bus {WTB) with 22 core cables compliant to UIC-558 throughout the rake is necessary, in which 4 cores shall be available for spare. One set of wired train bus will be redundant Data cable cores shall run through pin no. 10 & 11 of the 22 pin UIC connectors (plugs & sockets). Further. Railway Board's MOM held in Board office on 30.10.2019 issued vide letter no.97/Elecl {G)/114/1Pl1 dated 27.11.2019 has suggested that ROSO may consider option of running of cable with connector complying UIC 558 on one side ICF IEC-61375 is the IEC standard for TCN operation and not for rectangular type coupler. Also UIC-558 is not applicable for TCN operation and only applicable for remote switching, remote control and PAPIS system. IEC- 61375 is the common standard for testing for confirmation for TC N both circular & rectangular shape connectors. Hence standard mentioned for circular type connector may be changed form UIC-558 to MIL- DTL-5015 (MIL standard) and similarly standard mentioned for rectangular type connector may be changed from !EC 61375 to IEC 61984/EN 175301- 801 . f'~1- .1~ Mis Khandelwal Couplers as UIC standard also comply with IEC • 61375 M/sGirivar 1. UIC couplers comply to IEC 61375 communication protocol including Ethernet protocol. Further, we understand UIC couplers have been tested for push pull operation with TCN protocol in WR/Indian Railways already. Therefore, there is no doubt that UIC couplers comply with IEC 61375 communication protocol including Ethernet protocol. 2. UIC standard covers push pull operation. 13. We understand that UIC couplers were •designed-in" both locomotives and LHB passenger coaches produced by Indian Railways in 1996. These couplers have rendered successful service since 1996 in multi operation of locomotives. NR Para 3.2.2: Provision of IEC 61375 compliant connectors on one side and UIC 558 connecter on other side has been suggested as per MOM held in Board's office on 30.10. 19 for ascertaining the performance of both type of connectors. To include both type of connectors in the modification sheet for provision in the coaches will not only result in increased inventory but also i_n operational difficulties as under: CR 1. Central Railway (BB Div) has been using existing train communication wiring having UIC 558 couplers for EOG/HOG coaches hauled by Locos in push pull mode. Even through the UIC 558 couplers are spring loaded with flap type locking. Several failures due of loose contacl open contact and mishandling by then staff and vendors o Carrying two types of 12. cross jumpers in each coach to meet the existences have been reported. It has been observed that coaches from different PU's (ICF, RCF & MCF) are having different make of UIC 558 couplers and sockets, due to which problems of interconnectivity between coaches have o Loss of redundancy on reversal of coach o Keeping record of each coach for the end selection while putting in the rake o Earmarking of rakes to been encountered. avoid mismatch of 13. As per suggestion of the utilization of one set of connectors o Increase in resistance of train bus by using cross jumpers ln view of above, it is recommended that only one type of connectors shall be used to maintain the interchangeability of coaches. 22 core cable with UIC 558 in left side and other set with IEC 61375 on right side, a problem will be faced in case of detachments. If the replacement coach is window turned then UIC 558 and IEC 61375 connectors positioned diagonally to each other and interconnection between coaches will be difficult 4. UIC 558 connectors with 22 core cable on one side of coach under frame may not sustain vibrations, enroute ill handling during watering and may cause loose/ open Mis §chaltabau i) We have successfully done running trials on WR with Schaltabu make couplers with TCN, VCU fitted locomotives with 20 coaches. ii) UIC couplers are IEC 61375 compliant and do not having rectangular shape. iii) Referred Railway Board's letter no.97/Elec~G)/114/1Pl 1 dated 27.11. 19 and suggestions from CR, mention following two bullet points: In future, we may have to switch over to Ethernet connectivity for which connectors complying to IEC 61375 will be needed". In this regard we would like to state that 1. The assumption that connectors would be needed for compliance as per IEC 61375 standard needed to be re-considered . UIC couplers are modular connectors and carry many types of signals such as Ethernet RS 484 , control signals etc. As per IRS 50558 latest UIC 558 standard). The version of UIC couplers for Ethernet and data transmissk>n is UIC IT and can be established using a different "gigabit module" in the same coupler. Detailed reference list is attached as Annexure- 1. Excerpts from IRS 50558 are also attached as annexure -2. 2. As mentioned earlier,_ Mis Harting Remarks As per Zonal Raitway suggesti on and R~ Bd directi ves clause has been amended. \~1 \~\

    Some

    of the

    Zonal R

    have raised

    the issues, regarding shape

    of connector com

    plying to !EC 61375.

    In Rly BdMoM

    Central

    railway

    had modified one

    rake w

    has proposed

    comparison, !EC 61375

    connectors are press-fit and

    bolted, so

    jerks vibration

    and ill

    handling enroute will not cause

    loose/open contacts of pins.

    5. In loco UIC 558 sockets are used both for HO

    G

    socket and

    push pull

    operation with 13

    and 18

    pins. In

    field, frequent

    cases of

    have been

    . H

ence, it is suggested that for push pull

    . Hence it

    is suggested

    that for

    push pull

    !s. Presently, only one UJC 558, 18 pins & 13 pins socket

    is provided

    on loco

    for push

    operation.

    It is

    suggested to

    provide one m

    loco for push pull

    WR has alrea~y tested

    UIC couplers

    as per

    TC N protocol defined by

    !EC 61375. 3.

Inclusion of !EC 61375 as one of the standards essentially

    means

    U IC

    558 standard

    due to

    following reasons.

    a) !EC

    61375 is

    only a

    comm

    unication protocol and

    not a standard of

    reference for

    connectors. UIC

    558 connectors

    are inherently

    !EC 61375

    compliant and therefore

    are very much suitable

    for carrying

    comm

    unication signals

    in intervehicular

    connectors. C

    opies of

    the relevant

    pages of

    !EC 61375 are attached

    as Annexure-3. b)

    RD

    SO

    has suggested

    two

    feeders to

    run through

    the train

    for carrying

    the com

    munications signals

    from

    o0one locomotive

    to the

    other. Tw

o feeders are planned to have redundancy in the system

    . Both

    the feeders carry the sam

e signals as per the sam

    e com

    munications

    protocol. Therefore, it is clear

    that couplers as

    per UIC

    558 standard

carry signals as per IEC 61375

    comm

    unication protocol,

    hence it

is clear that UIC couplers are

    !EC 61375

    are com

    pliant c)

In both the feeders UIC 558 com

pliant cable is being used. Then w

hat is the need to m

ention !EC 61375 as standard as one of the feeders. This

    requires detaiJed

    shall come w

ith features such as train parting, IP protection

    while

    Further, the referred

    letter also

    mentions

    that ·This

    arrangement

    shall provide

    more

    flexibility to

    comm

    unication netw

    ork, further it w

ill· be possible to evaluate the perform

    ance of tw

    o type

    of connector.

    Connector com

plying to IEC 61375 should be planned in a

    matter

    to cater

    future extension of com

    munication

part and also able to cater E

    thernet connectivity whtch

    might be needed in future:

    1. In this

    regard it

    is pertinent

    to note

    following. For any future

    change related

    to E

    thernet connection, the

    respective cable

    along w

    ith connector

    module

    and pins would need to

be changed due to higher data

    transmission

    rates, for

    clarifying the

    above statem

    ent for

    Ethernet

    connection it is required to

    use the

    cats, cat6,

    cat6a or

    cat 7

    type of

    cables to

    handle the

    higher data transmission.

    Therefore even

through the connector design ( as per UIC 5581 IR

S 50558) has the required feature in

    the sam

    e connector,

    the existing

    cable form

    push pull operation w

    ould not

    be suitable.

    This

    essentially m

    eans whole

    work

    has to

be redone including the connectors. Therefore,

    separate set

    of com

    munication

    network w

    ould have to be laid

    in the

    train and

existing train bus for push pull cannot be used.

    2. There is

    no specific

    advantage of rectangular screw

    type

    connector used

    in CR

    over UIC

coupler in this regard. For Ethernet

    connectivity a

    different •giga bW m

    to be

    incorporated along w

    ith new cable for

    high speed data transfer. E

    xisting connector is not suitable

    for Ethernet

    connectivity.

    3. From above

points it is clear that IR

    would save

only the cost of connector fram

    e which is negligible.

    On the other hand, future

    requirements

    are not

    known today:

    4. The future

    requirements

    may

    call for

    multiple

    connectors due to various reasons
