  • Brochure

    Description:

This is my brochure for a feature length film concerning the trials after the martyrdom of Joseph Smith.Process:

First I had to come up with the idea of using one of my favorite pastimes (movies) as my main project. I used photoshop to clean up the photos, illustrator to create the logo, and the InDesign to pull it all together.Message:

Lets create a movie that talks about church history, accurately portrays real events. And sells. well.Audience:

More mature audience viewers and history buffs.Top Thing Learned:

A single image can help the flow of a project tremendously.Color scheme and color names:

Monochromatic BrickTitle Font Name & Category:

    Imprint Seriff

  • Stationery

    Description:

I designed a completely new logo, and implemented it for a letterhead and business card.Process:

I used Illustrator as the main program for designing the logo. The evolution of the logo was incredibly dynamic. Probably the hardest thing for me to figure out was the color scheme. I felt that color schemes with lots of different values would detract from the overall professionalism of the piece. I drew the paintbrush with the pen tool, and played around with the text weight.Message:

The message is a professional, clean cut business for graphic design.Audience:

The target audience is for corporations and business owners.Top Thing Learned:

Sometimes designs look like they took five minutes to put together, when they took much longer.

  • Flier

    Description:

For the flier project, we were asked to design the layout of a flyer using materials already provided. My first thought process was to create something that was professional and simple.Process:

I was pretty nervous using Adobe InDesign, as this was my first time. The majority of the work for me was deciding the overall theme of the project. Organizing was definitely the hard part. The big turning point was deciding to use the preassigned logo to pull everything together. After the critiques, I received some really good feedback on how to make everything smoother, and flow well together.Message:

The overall message that I really wanted to focus on was the opportunities for new graduates to improve their leadership skills. I highlighted the word LEAD in leadership, and also bolded the other instances of the word.Audience:

I didnt want anything silly or trivial, so I used conservative fonts throughout. I was aiming for young adults trying to improve their resume, not new college kids.Top Thing Learned:

I learned about the actual importance of coming up with a proper format. Designing the layout of a project is half the battle.

  • Montage

    Description:

I wanted to stray away from such iconic imagery as Christ and the Temple, because I felt that would be incredibly mainstream. I decided to go with a more spiritual rather than religious topic. It progressed from prayer to meditation. Emphasis on the roll thought plays on all of the above.Process:

The main issue was the formatting. I had a strong idea of what I wanted to do. I liked the front face view, and the back face background. I just needed to find a way to make it all work. I used a blur on the background left to draw to the light. I also blended the entire right image except for the face.Message:

The quote ties in the importance of thought. Our thoughts set the scene for our day. If its calm and serene, we can expect our day to follow suit.Audience:

The audience are those seeking to calm their minds. Hopefully thats everyone.Top Thing Learned:

I learned how to mask and blend effectively. At least in theory.Filter / Colorization used and where it was applied:

I applied a blur filter on the left side of the backdrop.

  • Photodesign

    Description:

Using good photography skills, design an image using a photograph. Incorporate a color scheme that works, as well as design elements that flow well.Process:

I used Photoshop to alter the image and to incorporate the color scheme. I liked the idea of purple and yellow complimentary because of its simplicity. I had a difficult time figuring out how layers work. I learned about adjustment layers the most.Message:

The message is focused on individuality. The quote is from Jack Kerouac, and discusss the mad people. I hope that the black and white background draws attention to the model.Audience:

College students. That quote is way too complicated for the average fifth grader. Also those that have issues with their identity.Top Thing Learned:

Layers upon layers are my friend. I loved reorganizing what I had and seeing the subtle shifts in the project.

  • Logos

    Description:

The logos were difficult for me to come up with. Coming up with three differing layouts, with different body types and vibes was had for me to do. One difficulty that I had was using color schemes effectively.Process:

The first step was coming up with a company to base everything off of. Unimaginative as I am, I decided to use a company that already existed, but use no similar elements. Im a swimmer, so I thought of speedo. I used Illustrator to create every part of the logo. The main tool that I used was the pen tool, to create the outlines of the sharks.Audience:

Originally, the target audience was for a more mature competitive group of people. Incorporating the color schemes forced me to change the target audience.Top Thing Learned:

I learned that the pen tool is a designers best friend. I couldnt believe how versatile the curve line generation was for creating seamless shapes.Three Color Scheme and Color Names:

    Triad Red-Blue-Yellow, Complimentary Orange and Blue, Tetradic (Red-Orange Yellow-Orange Blue-Green Blue-Violet)`

  • Web Page

    Description:

This was the most confusing project for me. I had to incorporate both the html and the css to work together. I realized that the html is the CONTENT, while the css is the DESIGN aspect of the web page.Process:

    Notepad ++, Html, Chrome.Message:

Going off of the original idea to provide a simple viewpoint in logo design, I formatted the html layout to be similar to the logo. There werent any flowery ideas or extra doodads to detract from the main idea.Audience:

Looking for professional people with emphasis on minimalism.Top Thing Learned:

A lot of my coding was based on trial and error. Fidget with some of the CSS code and see what happened.Color scheme and color hex(s):

Monochromatic Teal, (59949e) with Gray elements (8b8e8e)the logo around to the right side, and displayed a locked logo bottom right.

  • Event Ad

    Description:

For the Event Ad, I played around a lot with several concept ideas. The original idea involved the same background, but involved bubbles. I went with a simpler design that was more basic, yet more effective.Process:

For this project, we had to use word. Which was really interesting. There was actually lot more that could be done with design then I first thought was possible. I mostly used basic shapes, and the given color wheel to come up with the current design.Message:

The message is for an ALS New Years Eve Laser Show. I hope the gold bars and design play that out.Audience:

Focused to a more mature audience, but also those looking to serve a good cause.Color scheme and color names:

Monochromatic Gold, with blackTop Thing Learned:

Sometimes your favorite themes, or layouts that your excited for dont pan out. Drop them and move on.

  • Propoganda

    Description:

This project is a propoganda poster aimed at the regime like standards of Brigham Young University IdahoProcess:

I took a well known propoganda poster and developed it into my own project. I added colors that livened it up, and applied a BYUI seal to make it look more official. I was going for a more grunge look to add to the downtroden feel.Message:

I hate the idea of having stupid rules for the sake of having boundaries. This poster is all about working on the idea of having boundaries to keep us in line.
