MontageDEscription: This is a spiritual poster montage made with blending two images and type.

Programs Used: ADobe PhotoshopDATE: October 25th 2015COurse: COMM 130-01

Instructor: Cory KerrObjective: to Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow, Unify a layout with a consistent theme and spiritual message, Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, and Apply typog-

raphy principles (titles, quotes, events or scriptures.

Process: I first cropped the mountain range picture to 8.5×11 to use as my background. Then I selected the girl with the last tool and used a 100% feather and moved her to the background image, then I added a mask. With black paint and a 60% opacity painted away the hard image edges and gradually used less and less opacity as I got closer to my subject. I then went over the girl with 20% opacity so that you would see the mountain range behind her. I added some type with two different text boxes to create the separation in my message. I used the eyedropper tool and took the color from the mountains, a deep green, and made that my copy type color. I then created a rounded edge rectangle of the same color and placed it over the word “blind.” Then I put a mask over that and went over it with black paint and a 60% opacity so that you could still see the word but it gave it a clouded look. Then for my title, the name of the author of the quote, I took the color from the girls hat to create balance in the poster.

FlierDEscription: Grey scale flier publicizing a graduate leadership conference.

Programs Used: Adobe IndesignDATE: October 3rd, 2015COurse: COMM 130-01

Instructor:Cory KerrObjective: to Apply the design principles and use appropriate ty-pography, Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier lay-out, Retrieve image and logo from links on this page, Create a project folder with image, and have the logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign intact.

Process: First I sketched out possible layouts for the flier. Then, with the content provided, I picked a sketch and duplicated the layout on Adobe InDesign. I made my Title the focal point by making in big-ger than the body copy, giving it a darker value, and by surrounding it with white space. I tried to create a flow throughout my design by using repeating triangles. The top right triangle picture angles down towards the information.

PhotodesignDEscription: This is a handout with a quote from Henry KissingerPrograms Used: Adobe PhotoshopDATE: October 20th, 2015COurse: COMM 130-01

Instructor:Cory KerrObjective: to Learn basic photography skills, Choose a col-or scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout, Use a digital camera to take a quality image, Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on sep-arate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.5×11 page layout, Use

layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.

Process: I used Photoshop to edit the picture I took on a Nix-on D5000. I adjusted its sturation and vibrance. I also sharpend the diamonds on the necklace. Then I used the layers function to cre-ate serveral different rectangles to create a base for the text and some extra design. Then I entered the text.

BrochureDEscription: This is a promotional brochure for the company “boost”Programs Used: Adobe illustrator and Adobe InDesignDATE: December 5th, 2015COurse: COMM 130-01

Instructor:Cory KerrObjective: to Set up and align a two-sided, folded document, Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure, Incorporate quality imag-es, at least four quality images, and Write at least 250 words of origi-

nal copy in at least three paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.

Process: My first step was to decide what I wanted my brochure to look like. I wanted it to be different and unique so I decided I want-ed it to be a three fold but only fold down the first fold so that you could see the front and part of the inside, hopefully making the reader more intrigued. I then decided on the company of “boost.” They would be a company dedicated to making purely natural products and full of col-or. So I wanted the outside of the brochure to just be black and white and have all the color on the inside. So first I made the boost logo in Illustrator with two circles. The inside is just filled with black and the outer one in white with a black stroke to create a ring look. Then I downloaded the font “abeatbykai” for the “b” for boost. Then I made that into a jpeg, opened InDesign and began creating my brochure. I set it up so that I could see the creases for a three panel brochure. I then in-serted my pictures and scaled them to size. Then I entered all my text. I created the back to look related to the front so it could conclude the brochure.

Event AdDEscription: This is a full-bleed ad promoting an event the

clothing store “Pope & Company” is doing for the month of November.

Programs Used: I used Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner, and PDF2JPG.net.

DATE: October 11th 2015COurse: COMM 130-01

Instructor:Cory KerrObjective: to Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together, Find, scan and import a high-quality image, Create a full-bleed design.Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience, and to Learn to use only Word design features without

using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process: I scanned in the image of the woman from a J.Jill mag-azine. I chose this picture because of its district distressed look. I scanned it in a large DPI so that I could enlarge it and use it as the background for my text. I inserted the picture into Microsoft Word and enlarged it until it filled the whole page. I adjusted it until the woman made up two thirds of the flier. I then inserted text boxes for my title and body copy. I created the gold cross from the “insert shape” feature on word.

Then I created the back of the business card with my name and fake information. Then for my letterhead and shrunk my logo and put it in the top left corner. In the right corner I put my information again. At the bottom I just put a solid dark blue line.

Web PageDEscription: This is a webpage I designed explaining a logo I made for the company “Native Studios”

Programs Used: DATE: Adboe InDEsign and Text WranglerCOurse: COMM 130-01

Instructor:Cory KerrObjective: Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. (Minimum of 200 words. Include rationale for colors, appeal to target audience, design skills, etc, Acquire a working knowledge of HTML, Include all required tags, Acquire a working knowledge of CSS, Customize the provided CSS pro-vided to format the HTML to complement the logo design. Change at least the following: The h1 text color h1 background color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the background color, font

families and add at least one css comment.)

Process: I made this logo in Adobe InDesign. I used the rect-angle to make a square and rotated it to make the diamond shape surrounding the text. Then I typed the words I “native” and “stu-dios”, leaving the “A” out of the word Native. I then made a tee-pee to replace the “A” by using two long rectangles and curving their edges. I then made the word “studios” smaller and thinner, and put two thin rectangles on either side of the word. Then I insert-ed it into my html code and connected my css to my html from a previous project. Then I started making the necessary changes to
