LOYOLA PEDIATRIC MOBILE HEALTH UNIT

If your child needs immunizations and/or a physical examination and you do not have insurance or are having difficulty getting an appointment with your doctor, the Loyola Pediatric Mobile Health Unit be will coming to Elmwood school on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. A nurse practitioner will give your child a physical exam and update required immunizations. This is a free service. Please see the school nurse for the permission forms. *** 2017-2018 incoming sixth graders are required by the State of Illinois to have a new physical exam and updated immunizations by the first day of school. The appointments are limited so please call to make your reservation.

ELMWOOD VARIETY SHOW INFORMATION It’s time for the Elmwood’s Variety Show! If you have a talent that you want to show off, then it’s time for you to plan your act for this year’s show. Our theme will be “Under the Big Top,” a circus theme. Acts can be done individually or as a group. Remember when picking your music and planning your performance that we will consider acts that follow the theme first. Your music needs to be in the form of an MP3, have appropriate language and your moves or act should be appropriate for a young audience. Good Luck to Everyone!!!! WORDS OF WISDOM Happy Friday Panthers and Parents! The theme for the month of March is “Making Responsible Choices.” This week we focused on wisdom. Confucius once said, “Wisdom, compassion, and courage are the three universally recognized moral qualities of men.” While many say that wisdom only comes with age, it’s possible to help kids live with wisdom far before they get old and gray. Here are some ideas to help you guide them to make wise choices:

● Be a model. Do you make decisions rashly or without much thought? Do you rush ahead and consider the consequences later? Strive to be mature and thoughtful in your own decision-making for yourself and the family, and explain your thought process to the kids when appropriate.

● Teach them to stop and think. Train your children to pause and consider their choices for more than a millisecond.

● Give them a standard to live by. Once your child has learned to stop and think, they need a reliable standard of behavior and choices to check themselves against. Teach your children what it has to say about the kinds of decisions they face every day, and they’ll have a grid through which to make the tough calls. Even if they don’t have the guts to follow through and do the wise thing right now, they’ll know what the standard is and what they should be working toward.

● Teach them humility. It’s a completely separate character trait, but humble people are the ones who realize they don’t have all the answers and seek wise counsel when faced with a significant choice. Work to instill humility in your children, and train them to seek wisdom from trusted sources all the days of their lives.

Have a wonderful spring break, and remember to come to school on Monday, April 3rd prepared to Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be ready for class! With something to think about, this is Ms. Martini. Make it a great weekend – or not. The choice is yours!
