PIRANHA SOLUTIONS
• extremely energetic and may result in explosion or skin burns if not handled with extreme caution
• traditionally 3:1 H2SO4 and 30% H2O2
• used to remove organic residues from substrates
HANDLING PIRANHA
• Always use glass (preferably Pyrex) containers
• Prepare in a hood; wear rubber gloves and eye protection
• Always add the hydrogen peroxide to the acid
• The mixture is likely to become hot (>100 ºC); handle with care
HANDLING PIRANHA
• Leave the hot solution in an open container until cool
• Mixing hot piranha with organic compounds (such as acetone, isopropyl alcohol and photoresists) might cause an explosion
• Never store piranha solutions, mix fresh solution for each use
