The Year That Was…

Placements traditionally have been a strong forte of the Alliance School of Business, Alliance University. The placement cycle of 2012-13 witnessed an upward trend despite the economic turmoil. The cycle saw a positive turnout of potential employers, with an increase in number of recruiters, career opportunities, average and median salaries, and a significant addition to the list of newer companies. This was achieved through strategic structuring of the Career Advancement and Networking (CAN) office. The office was organized into six teams to further enhance the placements. Among these, five are focused on the major industry verticals for the domestic market and one team for international placements. This effort resulted in a diversified focus across industries and added prominent names to the list of recruiting partners.

Highlights

There was a significant increase in the number of companies that visited the campus in the 2012-13 placement cycle. A total of 168 company processes took place in the placement cycle of 2012-13 compared to a total of 123 in 2011-12. The School added a fresh list of 69 new recruiters on campus compared to 38 in the 2011-12 cycle. The major list of new recruiters were in FMCG, retail, real estate, automotive, investment banking, consumer durables, financial consulting, digital advertising and telecom. The 2012-13 cycle saw an impetus on international placements. This resulted in eight international companies visiting us with around fifteen profiles. This comprised 6% of overall placements with opportunities in Middle-East Asia and South-East Asia. International opportunities came from companies such as, Citibank (Dubai), Lifestyle & Splash – Part of Landmark Group (Middle-East), OCBC Bank (Singapore), Alghanim Industries (Kuwait), Continental Corporation (Malaysia & China), Elite Technologies (Bahrain), and Sakshi Advertising.

NEW RECRUITERS IN 2012-13 The addition of new companies in the 2012-13 cycle included organizations such as, Hindustan Unilever, Coffee Day, Colgate-Palmolive, Puravankara, Four Clover, Knight Frank, Marks & Spencer, Aditya Birla Retail, Vodafone, Aon, KPMG, Grant Thornton, Religare, Piaggio, DSV, Blue Dart, Misys, Dish TV, Zomato, Nielsen, Holiday IQ, Landmark Group Dubai, Samsung, and NEC India among others.

Highlights

The overall placement cycle of 2012-13 witnessed greater number of opportunities generated per student across the different specializations and this was spread across profiles, salaries, and geographies (both domestic and global). Global reach of the CAN Office resulted in 20 offers for roles outside India. The CAN Office generated a total of 997 opportunities across various verticals and across various streams that the School of Business offers. The students of the 2011-13 batch converted these opportunities into remarkable offers. The opportunities generated across specializations included a total of 488 in Marketing, 315 in Finance, 120 in Operations Management, and 74 in Human Resources. Each of these opportunities in different streams were also captured according to the verticals in the CAN Office to evaluate the industry insights on career opportunities for MBA graduates.

The CAN Office is well connected with the industry and works throughout the year to enhance campus relations. The result is visible in many companies that visited us more than once in a year during the 2012-13 placement cycle. Oracle, Akamai, Citibank, Coffee Day, Continental Corporation, HSBC, TeamLease Services, Google, NTT Data, Misys Software were few such companies. Continued trust of our recruiting partners is an absolute delight!

DELIGHT

Highlights

The MBA Batch of 2011-13 had the highest number of offers in areas such as, Sales and Marketing, IT Consulting, Research and Analysis, Key Account Management, Credit, HR Generalist and Supply Chain. Manufacturing, Logistics, e-commerce, Consumer Durables, IT, FMCG and Media companies offered Management Trainee roles in areas such as, Project Management, Business Analysis, Consulting, International Marketing, Online Marketing, Dealer Management & Development, Media Marketing. Also a networking distribution IT company participated in the process with a very unique Branding and Communication profile. Audit and Taxation firms recruited graduates for their Tax Vertical as Tax Consultants. The Management Trainee role continued to have maximum demand amongst graduates as they lead to global and multi-functional exposure. Many recruiting partners provided international stints to the candidates early in their career and had the graduates interact with their senior leadership teams. Trainees who underwent such programs were given direct opportunities in both mid and senior management levels.

Highlights

The Center for Industry Interaction (CII), which is a part of the CAN Office works closely with the industry to get expert speakers, guests and panelists for different events such as, summits, conclaves, seminars, and lectures. The CII in the academic year of 2012-13 invited more than 100 industry experts who interacted with students across different streams and shared their global experience and expertise in areas such as, finance, sales, human resources, supply chain, project management and many more. The participation of many eminent speakers from the industry and the government has helped students gain more insights into the practical aspects of business and administration.

The CII also held large and prestigious events like the HR Summit 2012-13, Finance Conclave 12-13 on the National Budget, Seminar on “Funding Options for MSME’s” in association with the Institute of Company Secretaries of India to name a few.

Apart from creating a very competitive and result-oriented structure in the CAN Office that has changed the landscape of campus hiring pattern at the School, many other new initiatives were taken. This resulted in a better placement cycle for 2012-13.

NEW INITIATIVES

The CAN Office launched a whole new internet-based platform for company announcements and application formalities for the 2011-13 batch. The portal allowed students to view and apply online for all the opportunities generated at the School of Business. Unique log-in IDs ensured that application information and status is discrete to an individual student.

The CAN Office is also the custodian of the alumni database. Networking with the alumni has significantly given the School an edge in terms of career opportunities and guidance to graduates. The CAN Office launched a whole new alumni portal in the calendar year of 2012-13.

Points of PRIDE

The CAN Office in an effort to connect better with students and also to enhance their placement preparedness initiated the concept of briefing sessions. These sessions are done along with a company announcement and are done by the CAN team members who handle a specific company account. The briefing session throws light on the opportunity, its prospects, and the career path of management graduates. The sessions saw good participation of students and also helped CAN Office build a face-to-face connect with the students.
