He’s here…The Phantom of the Opera!The Performing Arts Department of Mira Mesa High School is proud to bring Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mesmerizing score and tragic love story to life.

The Phantom of the Opera opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London on September 27, 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles. It started its New York run just over a year later and remains the longest running show on Broadway.

It’s also our largest production to date with over 50 actors, 30 musicians, and more than 50 crew members taking part, along with dozens of faculty and adult volunteers lending a hand. In a time where cutbacks to performing arts departments loom, it’s gratifying to see so many come together with time and talent to make this ambitious show happen.

Now, join us as we go far beneath the majesty and splendor of the Paris Opera House, where the Phantom hides in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protégée Christine Daaé is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.

Facts about the musical…It is estimated that • Phantom of the Opera has been seen by more than 130 million people, and the total worldwide gross is now in excess of $5.6 billion.

The show has won over 50 major theatre awards including three Olivier Awards, the •most recent being the 2002 Oliver Audience Award for Most Popular Show, an Evening Standard Award, seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, seven Drama Desk Awards and three Outer Critic Circle Awards.

The Phantom of the Opera• opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London on September 27th, 1986, so is now in its 26th year there. It opened at the Majestic Theatre in New York on January 9th, 1988.

The London production of • The Phantom of the Opera celebrated its 25th Anniversary in October 2011 with a series of 3 performances at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The Phantom of the Opera• became Broadway’s longest running show ever when it overtook the record set by Cats with its 7,486th performance on January 6th, 2006. It is the only Broadway show ever to celebrate anniversaries through 18 to 25 years.

The West End production played its 10,000th performance on October 23rd, 2010.•

The Phantom of the Opera• has been produced in 145 cities, in 27 countries around the world, including UK, US, New Zealand, Japan, Austria, Canada, Sweden, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, Korea, Denmark, Spain and Russia.

Playing worldwide it has been translated into no fewer than 15 languages.•

The original cast album of • The Phantom of the Opera was the first in British musical history to enter the music charts at number 1.

Album sales, including original cast recording, foreign language recordings, studio •recordings and the film soundtrack now exceed 40 million.

The cast album has gone 6 times platinum in the US, twice platinum in the UK, 9 times •platinum in Germany, 4 times platinum in the Netherlands, 11 times platinum in Korea and 31 times platinum in Taiwan.

Joel Schumacher directed a big screen version of the show which was released worldwide •at the end of 2004. It starred Gerard Butler as The Phantom, Emmy Rossum as Christine, Patrick Wilson as Raoul and Minnie Driver as Carlotta.

‘Learn to Be Lonely,’ a new song written for the movie, was nominated for Best Original •Song at the 2005 Oscars. Beyonce performed the song at the ceremony.

Phantom – The Las Vegas Spectacular opened in a purpose built theatre at the Venetian •Resort Hotel on 24th June 2006. The production cost $75 million, making the new 95- minute version the most expensive musical extravaganza of all time.

Some technical facts about the original production of The Phantom of the OperaThe dazzling replica of the Paris Opera House chandelier is made up of 6,000 beads •consisting of 35 beads to each string. It is three metres wide and weighs one ton. The touring version falls at two an a half metres per second. The original version was built by five people in four weeks.

The Phantom’s make-up takes two hours to put on and 30 minutes to take off. The face is •moisturized, closely shaved and the prosthetics are fitted, setting immediately, before two wigs, two radio mics and two contact lenses (one white and one clouded) are placed.

2,230 metres of fabric are used for the drapes, 900 of them specially dyed. The tasseled •fringes measure 226 metres. They are made up of 250 kilos of dyed wool interwoven with 5,000 wooden beads imported from India. Each one is handmade and combed through with an Afro comb.

There are 130 cast, crew and orchestra members directly involved in each performance.•

Each performance has 230 costumes, 14 dressers, 120 automated cues, 22 scene changes, •281 candles and uses 250 kg of dry ice and 10 fog and smoke machines.

The touring production takes 27 articulated lorries to transfer the set between theatres.•

Lorina AlfaroLorina Alfaro is honored to be a part of such a wonderful cast in her fourth and final musical as a student of Mira Mesa High. She is an avid participant in the theatre department as well as the school’s Madrigal choir. In her spare time, she indulges in common teenager pastimes such as reading, movie going, devouring infants and small children, and whiling away the hours on the internet. Lorina would like to thank her family and friends for their support and Lord Beelzebub for the voice she has signed for.

Dani AmbrosioDani is a junior and is joining the school musical’s pit for the first time. She has been playing the flute since elementary school and plans to continue it into college. In her free time, she enjoys baking to satisfy her friends’ never ending appetites and laughing her head off with them.

John Kent Ashbaugh IIKent is a senior performing in his second musical as Ubaldo Piangi in Phantom. Kent is a Christian that loves Jesus, after Him he loves to sing, play instruments such as tuba, trumpet, piano, guitar and uke. Kent is apart of MMHS Marching band for 4 years now, and Madrigals for 2. Kent owns a thorough-bred horse named Laguna and hasn’t ridden him since he got knocked off at 30 mph. Diana BanhThis is Diana’s first year of being in theatre and she is excited to be a part of this year’s musical. She loves the energetic vibe of everyone in theatre. Diana enjoys quoting movies, shout-singing out of car windows, watching The Office, dressing up, and window shopping in pet stores. She adores movie theatres & hopes to one day be in the film industry and tell her own stories via the big screen!

Tia BarnetteTia is excited to participate in the Spring Musical (as a part of pit orchestra) for the third and final time. She has been playing the viola for seven years, and has been a part of Musical Theatre ever since it started. The class has been a fun learning experience, especially since it caused the birth of J-TEAM the quintet. Tia wants to thank Mr. Kriley (for being the most constant performing arts teacher she’s ever had!), her friends, family, and the wonderful teachers that helped get her to where she is today.

Sandra BartelsThe Drama students and Mr. Kriley inspire Ms. Bartels and our students in the Art Department to be involved with theatre productions. We get caught up with their enthusiasm, offer creative solutions to a myriad of issues related to a production, and consider it an honor to bring some to realization.

Shane Christopher BushouerShane’s picture is found in the dictionary under “Awesome” because he created it. He is also on muscle magazines. He loves flattering himself and is amazing at playing the trumpet and as well as singing and acting.

Josh Bushouer Josh has been in Tech for 3 years now and has made many friends. He is now the running crew head and loves compliments. Josh loves high fiving EVERYONE and loves his friends very much. He would like to thank his friends, mom, and girl friend Clarissa Garcia for all their support. P.S. Josh is cooler than Shane.

Brandi ButrynThis is Brandi’s second musical. She is house manager. Brandi is also apart of band. This is her seventh year in band and her second year in tech. She loves the rush and pressure of show days. She loves pineapple and hates mushrooms. She enjoys wearing shorts and strongly disproves of pants.AND... Brandi is VERY blonde and is Vanessa’s bunny. She also loves the cast, crew, and orchestra.

Megumi CanupMegumi has been playing violin for nine years, but this is her first time playing in pit orchestra. She would like to thank her wonderful friends, family, and teachers for all the support they have gifted her with.


Lauren Cernik-PriceThis is Lauren’s third musical and her first major role. Her love for the theatre has only grown during Phantom and she is delighted to have the opportunity to portray La Carlotta. She would like to thank you for supporting her home away form home by seeing this musical and looks forward to performing for you in the near future.

Jeanne ChristensenMrs. Christensen (aka: Mrs. C) is thrilled to be once again conducting the pit orchestra for this year’s show Phantom of the Opera. It is a great opportunity to work along side with talented colleagues Daniel Kriley, Laura Williams, and Matt Mulvaney in the Performing Arts Department. Having taught music for the past 21 years, Mrs. C has been honored to work with so many talented students within the arts. She would like to thank ALL of the cast, crew, and musicians for their dedication to this musical and for making Mira Mesa High School one of the strongest performing arts programs in San Diego County.

Madison DoddMadison Dodd thinks everyone should be lovely; any day not spent with a smile on your face is a day not lived. Madison loves being in phantom! Madison aspires to be in the fashion industry. Every day is an adventure.

Danielle EdraDanielle is happy to start high school participating in the musical The Phantom of the Opera. Singing is her passion but she also enjoys dancing, reading, surfing the internet, and writing. She loves Musical Theatre and being with her friends.

Maryann EinsteinMaryann has been playing the trumpet since her sophomore year of high school, and has been in the Sapphire Sound for all four years. This is her first and final year playing in the musical pit orchestra. Although, she doesn’t plan to pursue a career in music, she hopes to somehow continue to play music in the near future. She would like to thank her family and friends for their support.

Jeric EstoestaJeric is part Filipino/Japanese. Phantom is the first play he’s been in. Currently he is in the MMHS madrigals and has been singing since he was about the age of 4yrs old. His life generally revolves around music, music made Jeric who he is today. Jeric at times can be annoying but usually he is very fun and outgoing. When Jeric gets older he dreams of becoming an Architect, a musician or a police officer.

Monica GarciaMonica is excited to start her high school experience off with being in MMHS theatre. Dance has always been a grande part of her life and she is stoked to perform in sparkly dance numbers in Phantom of the Opera.

Clarissa GarciaClarissa “Clr-Clr” Garcia plays a chorus ballet girl, but can be Meg, as she is her understudy. Behind the scenes, she is also the head of the technical theatre’s scenic crew. When she’s not doodling, she’s talking about YouTube star Yotam “LazyPillow” Perel. During lunch, she can be found in 407 “chillin’ with the ladies” or in B14 with her “boothang” while he gets “school’d, yo.” Her favorite bands are the Gorillaz, Daft Punk, the Black Eyed-Peas, Weezer, Matchbox


Twenty, the Goo Goo Dolls and No Doubt, although she likes anything that sounds good. Enjoy the musical!

Austin GardnerThis is Austin’s first time playing in a pit orchestra. He has been playing French Horn for 5 years. He loves being in band and hopes one day he can be as a good as his section leader Bryce Johnson.

Sarah Gates-LozierSarah Gates-Lozier has had her award-winning direction and choreography presented at professional venues in New Mexico, Las Vegas, and California since 1998. Mrs. Gates-Lozier has been the resident Musical Theatre choreographer at Mira Mesa High School for ten magical years. Other choreography and direction credits include PLNU’s Theatre Department, Christian Youth Theatre (CYT), American Rose Theatre, Pacific Coast Theatre Company, The Rancho Peñasquitos Academy for Dance Arts, Broadway Theatre Arts Academy, and STAR Repertory Theatre. Mrs. Gates-Lozier is proud to be a part of MMHS’s Phantom of the Opera. She would like to thank Daniel Kriley for giving her this amazing opportunity. She’s also like to thank Gianne Rayandayan, Veronica Murray, Laura Williams, Jeanne Christensen, Jodie Harrell, and the rest of the talented cast, crew, and musicians for all their hard work!

Jonathan GayapJonathan is a Junior in MMHS and has been playing the string Bass for three years now. He first started playing the String Bass in his Freshman year when he discovered that was what he really loved to do. This is his second year being in musical theatre and being in an orchestra pit. He is a huge fan of the musical The Phantom Of The Opera and is honored to be part of this year’s musical pit. He keeps on pushing forward to success and he thanks all his teachers, friends, and family for all the support.

Gennia GonzalesThis year’s musical is Gennia’s second year playing in pit orchestra. Also, this is her third year since she started playing the violin. Even if the music she is learning from Phantom is much harder than any other music she is currently reading, she still dedicates herself to push forward. She always loves to be around her friends whether it be orchestra, theatre, or band. She is thankful for the support of her music teachers.

Rebecca GrayThe Phantom of the Opera is Rebecca’s first musical. She is honored to be a part of the orchestra for the musical she has loved since fifth grade. She has been a part of the Sapphire Sound for all four of her years in high school. Rebecca would like to thank her family and friends for supporting her throughout her high school career.

Kara Lynn HackettThe Phantom of the Opera is Kara’s first musical. She wanted to do everything possible her last year at Mira Mesa and being a part of the musical will just be another thing she can look back and smile on. Gianna HamiltonGianna is a sophomore and loving her second year of Musical Theatre. An avid dancer and figure skater since the age of 5, she sure enjoys all the super cool dance and choreography of this play in particular. In case you were wondering (because we know you were), Gianna likes giraffes, dresses, sparkles, stripes, peanut butter, shoes, waffles, and cats.

Jade HamiltonJade is a junior this year. She has been in one other musical, Aida. Jade loves to act and sing. Jade is very excited about this musical this year. In Jade’s spare time she enjoys reading, singing, and hanging out with friends. Jade is excited that The Phantom of the Opera is the show this year because it is her favorite musical. Jade is very happy that she is in the show. She hopes that everyone will enjoy the show!

Jodie HarrellMrs. Harrell is from Hawaii, where she began studying piano at the age of seven. She graduated in Music Education from Brigham Young University with piano and choral music specialties, and has conducted a variety of school and church choirs. Jodie has also accompanied many musical theatre productions including MMHS productions of School House Rock, Once on This Island, Cinderella, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Hello Dolly!, Honk!, and Aida. She is married and has four children and six grandchildren.

Nicole Hardson-HurleyThis is Nicole’s junior year at Mira Mesa High and 1st year joining the MMHS Theatre community. She is currently ASB Commissioner of Media and Technology and Junior Class Student Council Secretary. She participates in clubs such as Academic League, Interact, and is the president of Impact SD. Nicole is exceptionally honored to take part in the production


of The Phantom of the Opera and would like to thank her family and friends for their support throughout the experience.

Chaise Ann HenderlingThis is her first year of High School, and she is excited to be in such an amazing musical with such a talented cast.

Naomi HernandezThis is Naomi’s third and final musical after Honk! and Aida, and is honored to have it end with Phantom. Her hobbies include doodling, being with her friends and family, geek-ing out over television series, seeking out random information, taking immense joy in the basic necessities of life (eating and sleeping) and other artsy-esque activities. If you see her, wave hello and you’ll probably receive a hello back as well as a goofy smile and squinty eyes. She apologizes for her lack of eyesight. She thanks her friends and family for their support and hopes you enjoy the show!

Samuel HidalgoSamuel is proud to be in The Phantom of the Opera musical and enjoys being a part of running crew. This is his second year in musical theatre. In his spare time he plays the piano, watches soap opera and does pull-ups almost every day. Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood are his favorite actors. He likes reading science fiction.

Morgan HinchMorgan is in love with the musical theatre and wished to pursue it as a dream. Morgan plays the flute, oboe, piano, and guitar as both a hobby and a grade in marching band. She loves nature and wishes that Mr. Kriley will at least smile once while she’s at Mira Mesa. Wingardium Leviosa!

Whitney HongMeg Giry was always Whitney’s dream role. You can find Whitney in local thrift stores, photo shooting with her friends or cruisin’ around Mira Mesa on her bike. She loves owls, eyes, The Beatles, Audrey Hepburn, horror movies and creating her own clothing/accessories. She hopes, one day, to be Snow White for Walt Disney.

Jennifer HsuThe Phantom of the Opera is Jennifer’s third musical at MMHS. Previous musicals include AIDA and the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Jennifer plays the piano and the violin, and participates in various ensembles, including MMHS’ Symphony Orchestra, the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory’s Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia, and Jazz Ensemble (on piano). She plans to pursue a career in music.

Fletcher HurleyFletcher deeply loves mermaids and wants to be part of their world. Fletcher thinks mermaids are amazing because they are beautiful and magical and they inspire him to fulfill his dreams. He was almost not able to participate in the musical after a run-in with the evil sea witch


Ursula left him without a voice, but all is good now as she has since been impaled. Like the sea Fletcher will always have mermaids swimming close to his heart.

Michael JimenezThis is Michael’s fourth and final musical. He has played violin in Hello Dolly! and Honk! and has played viola in last year’s Aida. This year, Michael is playing viola in The Phantom of the Opera. This is his most challenging year for his pit playing for the music is very difficult, but he will try his utmost best and hopes that all of you will enjoy the Musical and the pit orchestra.

Bryce JohnsonBryce Johnson is a Senior at Mira Mesa High School. He is very involved in the Sapphire Sound being Vice President and French Horn section leader. This is his third year playing in the pit orchestra. The musicals he has done are Honk!, Aida and this year’s production The Phantom of the Opera.

Loren KeagleMr. Keagle’s extensive background in technical theatre and sound design has covered a wide spectrum of volunteer and professional positions. He has worked as an audio engineer, lighting technician, and general stagehand for several theatre programs throughout California. He began his semi-professional career with the famous Lamplighters musical theatre company in San Francisco. He continued to work as an assistant sound engineer and stagehand in San

Luis Obispo, working for dozens of touring bands and Broadway musicals, including West Side Story, Grease, Cats, Stomp, and Phish. He then moved fully into professional concert sound, working with renowned acts such as Tower of Power, Kool & the Gang, Rascal Flatts, and many more. He now works in San Diego as a professional software engineer, but greatly enjoys volunteering his time supporting the Mira Mesa Theatre Department.

Yeeun (Alice) KimAlice is a junior at MMHS, and she plays the violin, and the piano. This is her eighth year playing the violin. This is also her second year participating in the pit orchestra for the Spring Musical. She is thankful for the support of her music teachers. She helps and comforts her friends who have problems.

Daniel KrileyThe Phantom of the Opera is Mr. Kriley’s ninth musical production at Mira Mesa High School. His other credits include Little Shop of Horrors, Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Cinderella, Beauty & the Beast, Hello Dolly!, Honk! and last year’s smash hit Aida. He has been directing, acting and providing technical theatre expertise for over 25 years in numerous productions. This year, he is honored to be working alongside four outstanding musicians: Jeanne Christensen, Laura Williams, Matt Mulvaney and Jodie Harrell. Completing the creative team is the amazing choreographer Sarah Gates as well as the talents of Art Spurlock, Loren Keagle, Eileen Rodriguez, Chris Liang, Geoff Lizar, Sandra Bartels, Brandon Sherman and many amazing parents. Finally, to the dedicated cast & crew — they brought this incredibly demanding show to life with a seemingly endless amount of talent and spirit!

Mandana LalehzarianThe Phantom of the Opera marks Mandana’s second year in the school musical. She has been an avid participant in the theatre department for three years and is honored to be a part of such a wonderful cast. This is Mandana’s final year of high school. Bobby LopezAlthough Phantom of the Opera is only Bobby’s 2nd musical, he has been in many other theatre performances. He never joined the musical his other two years because he believed that he had a bad singing voice at that time. He’s starting to enjoy singing and dancing at the same level he enjoys acting. Bobby has always been fascinated by acting ever since he was a small child. Among acting, singing, and dancing he also has some experience in directing. Bobby is the representative for advanced theatre. On his spare time he enjoys being with his friends and playing video games.

Samantha MallariSamantha is a Freshman and former Cross-Country runner. She is deeply honored to be a part of “Phantom” and thanks her family and everyone for welcoming her into the theatre world.

Franz ManalansanFranz is a junior and this is her first year participating in the musical. She has been playing clarinet for eight years and will be performing in this year’s pit orchestra for Phantom. Franz is a part of the Mira Mesa Sapphire Sound and Wind Ensemble. She enjoys hanging out with her friends, making music, and just relaxing in general. She hopes you enjoy the show as much as she has enjoyed performing in it.

Tayler MartinThis is Tayler’s first and last year playing in the musical pit orchestra. She has been in the Sapphire Sound for all 4 years of high school and definitely will find a way to keep playing music in college. Tayler hopes to attend The Art Institute of San Diego for baking and pastry and someday own her own bakery. She has always been a fan of the musical Phantom of the Opera and is very excited to be part of this years pit orchestra.

Eric MouraEric has been playing Saxophone since the 4th grade and is now playing in his first and last school musical. He has been a part of the Sapphire Sound for 4 years and hopes to keep music a part of his life. He would like to thank his family and friends for their undying support during his high school career and Mrs. C for a great final year in the Sapphire Sound.

Scott MoweryScott is head of lighting; this is his fourth year in theatre tech and third year in the musical. He was in Aida and in Honk. He likes adventures in the world. He hates NASCAR but loves pancakes. He is a Taurus and likes walks on the beach. He is a dog and cat person. Scott’s future plans are to go to Junior college after high school. He would like to travel and discover new cultures. He is very funny and friendly. He would like to shout out to lighting and publicity.

Matt MulvaneyMr. Mulvaney is thrilled to be part of the Mira Mesa High School Visual and Performing Arts Department. Prior to joining the staff at Mira Mesa, Mr. Mulvaney worked in Clairemont, conducting numerous band and orchestral ensembles. He says it is his sincere pleasure to work daily alongside Mr. Kriley, Mrs. Christensen, Ms. Williams, and of course, the talented student-musicians.

Veronica MurrayPhantom is Veronicas 3rd and last musical here at MMHS, she is honored to be working as both Technical Director and Co-Dance and Choreographer Captain this year. Veronica has served as Head of Sets for Honk! and as Props Master for Aida in the past. Veronica is currently Drama Clubs Vice President and Improv Co-Captain. She would like to thank Mr.Kriley, Mrs.Williams, Mrs.Harrell, and Mrs. Sarah Gates for giving her this wonderful opportunity and for helping her to become the performer she is today. Kristina MuseThe Phantom of the Opera is Kristina’s first musical at MMHS. She is very excited to be in this performance. She has been in other perfomances at MMHS and has taken the theatre classes here for two years now but is very excited to be a part of this amazing musical because it’s one of her favorites.

Sidney PalominoSidney is a sophomore; it’s her second year participating in the spring musical at MMHS. She enjoys singing in the school choir (Madrigals), being a Girl Scout, speaking Spanish, spending time with her family of 7, and going to Disneyland. She has an AMAZING sense of humor, loves squids, enjoys anime, and can’t wait for the upcoming years of theatre.

Inno PamaranThis is Inno’s first and final musical in his LIFE. He loves percussion as much as he loves bacon. He’s been in the Mira Mesa Sapphire Sound for three consecutive years playing percussion in the front ensemble. He is a Dovahkiin and proud.


Marqus PattonThe Phantom of the Opera is his second musical at Mira Mesa High School. He enjoys singing, dancing, listening and writing music. He also like playing and working on the computer at home. He also likes going to church and participating in church activities and meeting new people. In his spare time he likes experimenting with plants, studying historical and Biblical facts and hanging out with his friends.

Kateline PerDueThis is Kateline’s third year being in the musical and is honored to have her first character role. She is a part of the Drama, Improv, Student 2 Student, and Red Cross Clubs and has been in Madrigals for two years. She is adventurous and loves wolves, CSI/Sherlock Holmes type of stuff, music, certain “horror” movies, pins, European stuff, Comic-Con, Disney Land and books. She hopes to one day be a singer and actress and wants to travel the world.

Gabriela PerezShe is in her second year of technical theatre, she did make up for last year’s musical. This year she stage manages and enjoys working with the wonderful cast and tech theatre crew. In her spare time she loves styling hair and creating different make up styles.

Anna PhanAnna is a high school sophomore. She’s very shy, and is a violinist in the school’s orchestra. She likes to draw and sing. She’s played the violin for 7-8 years and has been in the musical pit for 2 years and counting. She wishes to become a musician when she grows up.

Kevin PhanKevin is proud to have been in such a wonderful program for the past four years. Luan (David) PhanLuan (or David) is a self taught violinist and has been playing for a good 6 years and has also been playing piano for 12 years. This will be his first and last performance in a “high school” musical, for he is a senior that is destined to graduate at the end of this school year. He thanks his parents and everyone in the musical program for letting him play in his first and last musical... and also hopes that you, the audience, will enjoy the show.

Tiffany PorterTiffany has been involved in the MMHS Performing Arts Department since Freshman Year. With “Phantom of the Opera” as her fourth school musical production, she is also the Publicity Coordinator of Drama Club and Historian of Madrigals 2011-2012. Tiffany is part of the Good Shepherd showchoir, Back in Time and has taken part in Monster Manor, a haunted house attraction. In her spare time, she enjoys photography and attends dance classes. Tiffany aspires to be an ambassador for Not For Sale, a non-profit organization that fights Human Trafficking, and a Creative Writing Major living in New York someday.

Trisha PorterTrisha Porter is a sophomore and she has been playing the violin for six years. Besides her passion of playing music, she loves to draw, dance, and act in plays. The Phantom of the Opera is her second musical in the orchestra pit. She would like to thank her family and friends for their support.

Sarah RadcliffeSarah lives a trifold life of theatre, work, and comic books. She has been involved in the MMHS theatre for four years. Between tech and acting one might think her schedule is full, THINK AGAIN. Sarah has a steady job at SeaWorld cleaning restrooms, FUN RIGHT? Sarah has a hidden dream that she keeps in the dark however; Comics have been in her life since 2007 and she has been drawing them in the confines of her room for years, Batman more than others. Her future is in the air between performing and drawing. But, hey Gerard Way does both.

Kia RapisuraThe Phantom of the Opera is Kia’s first musical at MMHS. This is her first year in musical theatre and second year taking a theatre class. In her spare time, she eats, sleeps, and eats more.

Gianne Cody RayandayanGianne is incredibly proud to be Co-Dance Captain and Co-Choreographer for this year’s “Phantom”. Before ever making dance a serious hobby, Gianne has devoted her life to visual graphic arts, and feels happiest in both her school’s art studio and the Dance and Company Performing Arts Studio. Gianne hopes to be able to pursue a career in the film industry, and hopefully, to be able to work for Studio Ghibli in Japan (Highly unlikely but the dream is the dream).


Nicole ReedNicole loves to be on stage In the last year of her middle school she decided to take theatre and she loved it. Over all the theatre stuff, Nicole is a fun, talkative person.

Katrina ReyesThis is Katrina’s first year playing in a musical pit orchestra and luckily it is for one of her favorite musicals, The Phantom of the Opera. This August, Katrina will be attending Point Loma Nazarene University to pursue a career in child development. Music is definitely a part of her future, whether it be playing an instrument or rocking out on vocals. One of her biggest accomplishments includes being a Drum Major for the Mira Mesa Sapphire Sound. Her favorite quote pertaining to music is, “If music be the food of love, play on.” –William Shakespeare.

Benjamin ReyesBenjamin has been in band for seven years. At first, he played flute and piccolo, but when he reached high school, he decided to switch to marching percussion. This is his sophomore year in high school, and first year in the pit-orchestra. Although only a sophomore, his future ambition is to pursue music in his near future.

Roxy RodriguezThe Phantom of the Opera is Roxy’s 2nd musical and second year in musical theatre she loves the experiences that it brings and the new people she gets to meet. Roxy loves to dance and hang out with her best friends in musical theatre. She loves to dance and wants to follow it for the rest of her life.

Samuel RodriguezSamuel began playing percussion in his sophomore year of high school and has since reached unimagined heights as a musician and a person. Now a senior, he will be graduating with “Phantom” being one of the last things he will have had the pleasure of participating in high school and will be proceeding to studying Television, Film, and New Media Production in college and continuing playing marching and concert percussion.

Jasmine RodriguezJasmine began playing for the Musical Pit last year, in the Spring production of “Aida.” She has been a part of the Mira Mesa Sapphire as a Percussionist and Oboist since her freshman year and is ecstatic to be a part of this year’s production of “Phantom.” Although her experience in theatre does not run deeper than providing its instrumental music, she has enjoyed every moment of being involved with the program and plans to pursue a career in music that will expose her to similar experiences. Jasmine hopes you enjoy the performance!

Justin SamoyAlthough he has several achievements under his belt, not limited to his presidency and secretaryship of the Madrigal choir and Drama Club respectively, Justin Samoy is especially proud to end his high school career as the title character in “Phantom”. With a myriad of other interests including business, food, fashion, grammar, and Disney, he keeps active in his pursuit of happiness. Ryan SanchezRyan is the Assistant head of running crew. Throughout his three years of Technical theatre he has had a lot of fun. He helped work Honk!, Aida, and this years The Phantom of the Opera. Ryan knows exactly when to open and close the curtain (should a mistake happen everyone should slap him on the wrist because he knows better).

Chelsea SchneiderChelsea feels blessed to be apart of her most favorite musical. The very one that inspired her to be a part of musical theatre for 3 years now. She loves: dresses, birds, Disney princesses, flowers, sewing, clocks, yodeling, mermaids, bows, Pokemon, pink, fashion, Barbie, little Asian babies, vintage, Lolita, Miyazaki, Pixar, lights, and RPG games. Hates: ugly people, math and pants!

Katarina SimpeloKatarina is a senior and plays the flute and piccolo.This is her first year playing in a pit orchestra. She has been playing for 7 years and will continue to pursue music in her future. Katarina is planning to attend Point Loma Nazarene University in the fall and double major in Nursing and Music. One of her biggest accomplishments is being President for the Mira Mesa Sapphire Sound. She’s very excited to be playing in The Phantom of the Opera, but also a little sad because she can’t sing along to her favorite musical during the show!

Jasmine StewartThis is Jasmine Stewart’s sophomore year, she loves theatre. She has always loved to sing and recite lines from TV shows, musicals, movies, etc. Though she didn’t get a big role in The Phantom of the Opera, she still enjoys it. Like they say you have to start from the bottom to get to the top.


Forrest Huu TaThere are three necessities that keeps Forrest going: blood, respiration, and the musical. The Phantom of the Opera is Forrest’s second musical. ‘Aida’. Techies, band, orchestra, actors, Sarah Gates, Ms. Williams, Mrs. Harrell, and Mr. Kriley all keep the flow running around the system. The company is the heart to Forrest, the musical is the brain that keeps him going.

Marisa TagalogMarisa Tagalog is a Freshman in this year’s musical. Marisa is an active member of Band, Theatre, and Church while still maintaining a social life. In her spare time she indulges in reading, listening to music, and hanging out with friends.

Tiffany TranThe Phantom of the Opera is Tiffany’s first musical that she has participated in at Mira Mesa High School. Currently, she is a member of the Sapphire Sound as a flute player. She wishes to continue to be a musician in the future. She enjoys her free time by reading stories or finding some way to make her friends’ lives miserable.

Yaritza VillaThe Phantom of the Opera is Yaritza’s second musical and year in theatre. Yaritza participates in band, dance, art, and church when not working with theatre. She wishes to continue with her musical participation as a profession. She would like to thank her parents, for supporting her through the complicated music seasons, and friends who always push her to pursue her dreams.

Jamie VillanuevaJamie is part of the Sapphire Sound and this is her first year in Pit Orchestra. She’s been playing the flute for 6 years. Her hobbies include dancing, eating, and music.

Austin VinluanAustin is currently a sophomore at Mira Mesa High School and is playing in the musical for the first time. He has been playing trombone since 7th grade and hopes to continue and get better. Band has always played a big role in his life. Austin is also very involved in extracurricular activities and loves spending time with his friends and family!

Nick WagnerNick started theatre at the beginning of the school year of 2011 and, despite not being in tech previous years, he was chosen for the position of sound head for the theatre, completing any tasks sound related with the help of the sound crew JJ Aceron, Marqus Patton, and Hannah Richardson. Nick looks forward to a great year and to have great productions for people to enjoy. He plans to pursue music/audio in the future.

Laura WilliamsMs. Williams is honored to be participating in her first Mira Mesa musical as vocal director and pianist. While she has often been on the directing side during the last ten years, she has accompanied many school and community productions (including “Godspell,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “Little Shop of Horrors”). Ms. Williams conducted her first musical last


summer with Patio Playhouse in Escondido, and in 2003, she won the C.F. Unger Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement for musical direction of “The Fantasticks” with Selma’s Raisin Cain Players. She is so proud of all the talented and dedicated students and staff who have worked so hard on this production!

Karl YabesThe Phantom of the Opera is his first musical at Mira Mesa High School. He is in his first year of tech and is glad to be assistant stage manager. He also plays Lacrosse for the high school team. In his free time, he likes to eat, sleep, and work out. And every day after Karl gets home from his rough schedule he relaxes and then snuggles up with a nice bowl of ice cream to satisfy his munchies. Karl frequently flips over tables to feel like a man.
