Hi Shedders.
As you will see through the photos, the building is progressing well. The roof
trusses were craned into position on Monday 18th June and they have been tied
down to the top plate and braced. The block layer has continued the end gables
to full height. We are now ready for the Colorbond roofing. The plan is that the
building will progress to lockup stage by 20th July. For this to happen, we have a
number of small teams working to prepare internal wall frames, insert alumin-
ium windows, set the glass blocks and fit the doors and make the external se-
curity screens.
Our workshops close in the current venue on Wednesday 18th July. This will be
the end of another era but, at the same time, present an exciting challenge as we move to our permanent
home. We are required to vacate the temporary workshop in the Hamlyn-Harris building in preparation for the
show.
The plan is that, if our building is complete to lock-up by the due date, we will have a number of working bees
on Thursday and Friday 19th and 20th July to move the equipment into our building. In the event that our build-
ing is not complete in time, we will require a number of teams to move it out any way. In reality, we probably will
not resume our workshops immediately as it will take some weeks to set up our new home.
This is indeed a very busy time for the building committee. However, it must be said that the position we are in
is one that many shedders would be waiting for with bated breath. Happy Shedding Brian Wheeler

WELFARE
Arthur Muhl detailed the construction of the raised gardens at the Girl Guides
Hut, the raised garden and seating constructed at the Blue Care Respite cen-
tre which was organised and funded by the Greater Mount Gravatt /Mans-
field Lions Club.
Arthur spoke of our continuing involvement with the Lions in the gate-keeping
role at the Mt Gravatt Show on 28th and 29th June. Last year our involve-
ment resulted in a $1100 donation. We will be looking for volunteers again
at the July Meeting. Your help would be much appreciated.
As well, in past years, we have helped ground staff with the setting up and
dismantling of the Show on the Friday before and the Monday after. Arthur
will be asking for volunteers for this project as well. The work is not ardu-
ous, generally takes up about half a day and is largely good fun.

The construction of our Men’s Shed facility is well underway with the roof
trusses being put in place ready for the roof.
Our Building Committee has worked tirelessly to get to this stage. There
has been times of frustration disappointment and I am sure sometimes an-
ger in trying to cut through the red tape and now excitement to see it all
take place.
Please contact your Welfare Committee if you have a need or a request. Let
us know if you know of a member that is sick at home or in hospital or if
you have a special need.
We would like to contact, visit or assist where possible or practical. We are
also able to arrange transport for you to Men’s Shed Meetings or functions
if needed.

Give me the patience to accept the things I cannot

Aussie Version of the Prayer to Avoid Stress
Lord
Give me the beer to make bearable what I cannot
change
Give me the mates to support me in the things I can
And give me the wisdom to never get my knickers in a

Because it solves nothing and makes you walk funny!

Did you relate to the Mother’s sayings in the last
Newsletter? Here are two more that I remember
“ If it hurts , it must be good for you!”
And , from my aunts when the adult conversation had
just got me interested,
“Little pigs have big ears!”
Do you know any more? What about mothers from
other countries? Did they have versions of the same
sayings or sayings unique to their culture?
C’mon! Tell us! It isn’t likely that you will get into
trouble now!
We are not alone! Tuesday group at work!

MAKING CHESS PIECES
This is a craft which was probably handed down by all
his grandfathers over the last couple of thousand
years. Not a bandaid in sight!
Look at the size of the chisel - no little tiny ones for the
delicate bits, and he appears to still have all his fingers
and toes!
Talk about amazing hand/foot co-ordination, etc. Just
imagine this man on a real lathe!
WELL WORTH WATCHING!
