Ranged from hospital scrubs to seventeenth-century cherubs to in early twentieth century jazz with flapper style dresses and banana motifs reminiscent of Josephine Baker’s iconic costume.
Stand out stripes
Wide stripes become a surprise hit for spring. Both horizontal and vertical varieties. Two-tone stripes or multi-colored. Varying stripe width or uniform.
Going BananasHawaiian tropic include Palm fronds, tropical flowers and beachscapes / Fruits like bananas and citrus are cheeky and fun. Yellow, orange, green, blue and pops of neon.
Dropitlike it’s Haute
The dropped waist becomes a key silhouette for spring. Waist falls at the hip or below. Bias cut, pleated or ruffled skirt pieces / 1920s inspirations look right.
Masculine metal Ward
Simple patterns like stripes or color blocking are key. Color block construction incorporates contrast color gusset, base and/or flap. Key looks: Prisoner, postman, sailor, orderly
Mid Western The jungle prints and striped sombreros; the straightforward summery-ness of a spaghetti-strapped
Back to basicsOn controary to the BOLD neon lights. Prada went back to basic with broad shoulders and sack dresses. Radioactive violet in deliberately plain cotton suits, like the most (extra)ordinary uniforms
Pop Art The graphics and vivid colors of
Pop Art inspire for spring.
Bright tones make it pop – hot pink, emergency-cone orange, fiery red, acid yellow, cerulean blue, lime green.
Colorblocking, gradient stripes, broken lines and sectioned pieces.
Boxy silhouettes work well – shift dresses, woven tees, straight skirts.
Bike shorts add an active element
