PROBLEM # 1:One day, Julie and Hazel hurriedly went to the beach to play with their friend Trishka. They saw Trishka waiting for them to come. Hazel waved hello to Trishka and Julie threw the frisbee for them to start playing. If the angle of depression from Julie’s sight to Trishka is 56° and the distance from Julie’s hand to the wall where Trishka stands is 4.7 m, what is the distance of the pathway of the frisbee from Julie’s hand to where it will land ?

Solution :
We will use cosθ or secθ.Let y be the hypotenuse.
cosθ = adj hyp cos56 = 4.7m
y(cos56) y = 4.7m(cos56) y = 4.7m (cos56) (cos56)
y = 8.40m

PROBLEM # 2 :Bestfriends – Ivy, Danieza and Mitzi were practicing in solving trigonometric problems in math. Ivy was sitting at the top of a leafless dwarf tree giving problems for Danieza and Mitzi to solve. What is the distance from the roots of the tree to Mitzi’s foot and the distance from her foot to Ivy’s sight if the angle shown below is 45° and the height of the tree plus the height of Ivy’s sitting position is 1.8 m.

Solution :
Lets solve first for y.We will use cotθ.
cotθ = adj opp cot45 = y
1.8 m(cot45) 1.8 m = y
y = 1.8m

Lets now solve for x.We will use sinθ.
sinθ = opp hyp sin45 = 1.8 m
x(sin45) x = 1.8 m(sin45) x = 1.8 m sin45 sin45
x = 2.55 m
