SWF Hands on Training Exercise

This exercise is designed to give you experience and confidence using P6 web for activity and resource development.

This portion of the exercise will complete the Activity & Resource Development (PROC2030/2040) exercise for P6 Web.

Just like in the PPM Client version, rescheduling your project is required after you have completed your edits. P6web has two ways of launch this scheduling function. One method is the traditional F9 key and the other way is via theTools icon and selecting Re-schedule Project.

You will also get experience in how to add a Work Products and Documents record for CMI reporting.

Add this WBS structure and descriptions using the WBS Child and Sibling feature. With a WBS highlight one can use the Arrow Icon to promote aor demote a WBS band.

From the Customize View icon (Wrench), add the following columns. Click OK to Save.

Confirm WBS under the Grouping Tab.

Click on Workspace and confirm the Default tab values as indicated. Save and Close. Click on Activities.

Select the Package A WBS and click on the Add Activity icon 5 times and Save. Highlight all five activities, right click and Click on Link Selected Activities and Save.

Click on the Planned Duration cell for the first activity and enter a value of 10. Drag the little white box with the “cross hair” pointer to the last activity and Save.

Confirm relationship lines between activities and all durations of 10 days. Access the activity name cell and label these 5 activities One, Two , Three, Four and Five. Save.

Click on Tools and Re-schedule Project.

Click on the third activity cell called “ Activity type” and select Finish Milestone and Save. Reschedule your project.

For the milestone activity, select the Milestone-Military cell and select MIL 180 (RTA) from the list of values and Save.

We are going to copy/paste these five activities from the “Package A” WBS to the “Package B” WBS. Highlight all activities in Package A and right click to select Copy.

Select Package B WBS band and right click to select Paste. Click on Save.

You have successfully “cloned your fragnet” into another WBS node. Click the Save icon.

We are now going to link Fragnet One to Fragnet Two. Assume the Fragnet Two can not start until Fragnet One has completed Activity Two. This Finish to Start relationship is created by first highlighting Activity Two, hold the Ctrl key and select activity One in Package B. Right click and select Link Activities. Save and Re-schedule.

Highlight the first activity in Package A, right click or click on the Activity detail icon and select Assignments.

Select the essential column for resource editing. Configure your Assignment tab columns as shown above.

Under the Assignments tab, click on the Assign Resource Icon and type M2L1700 in the search box and click Assign. Next, type “Travel” in the search box and assign this non labor resource.

Confirm M2L1700 and Travel resources have been assigned.

Assign the appropriate Type of Funds code in the Cost Account field. Click Save.

Select the Activity codes tab and assign a WCC-Military code value.

Select the Activity codes tab and assign a Task Organization value of M20000. Click Save.

Locate the WWC-Military and Task organization columns in your custom view and confirm these Activity codes are displayed in the tabs and columns after you have Saved your work. Re-schedule your project. Click on Workspace.

From the Project Maintenance portlet, select Workflow and change Workflow Status to Pending Budget Approval. Click Submit and Select the WI/Budget tab.

Select the desired level of interface to CEFMS by placing a Check box next to the appropriate expanded tree branch. Click on Submit to execute the WI/Budget interface to CEFMS. Click on Logs and select the respective document to check/confirm the outcome of this CEFMS interface. Click on the Reporting tab and select the appropriate report to analyze your end results.

Note the new logic tie between “Two and One”. Click on the Actual Start cell of activity One and enter 1 Dec and click the green check mark. Change the Remaining duration field to 7, Save and Re-schedule.

We are going to add a 19 Feb 2011 constraint date to the milestone activity in Package Two by dragging the milestone icon or accessing the columns called Primary Constraint Date and Constraint type with the appropriate detail.

Re-schedule your project and note the impact of this constraint on your schedule.

To remove an actual date (unactualize), highlight the Actual Start/Finish cell and delete the value OR if a blank cell if below this cell in the Actual Start/Finish column, use the Fill feature (click on cell and find the white box in the lower right corner of the cell using the new cross hairs pointer) to fill (upward a blank) to this actualized cell, then Change the durations back to 10 days.

To add a Work Products and Documents, click on Documents. Select Modify and click on Add. Add any file link to the Public location using the Green plus. Title the Document and Click Save.

This new document will have no Document status. Organized by Document Status and find your doc under the No Status tab. Edit this set of fields by adding Document Category and REMOVE the Public location field.

Add your comments in the Description Tab. If you want this document to appear in CMI change the Status field to “Active” and Save. Note the Revised date defaults to the current system date. Edit as appropriate.

Refresh, organize by Document Category and locate your new doc under the appropriate category.
