Our energy conservation efforts not only will benefit the environment by reducing harmful emissions, they also provide nearly $1 million in annual savings that we can reinvest in our region’s infrastructure.”

The PA’s Guaranteed Energy Savings Program is a multiphased effort that includes upgrades across the PA portfolio of facilities. The first and second phases of the program included the project at PABT/LT, as well as a project at multiple PATH locations. The third phase for a project at JFK is in design, and a fourth phase at TB&T facilities is in development.

The next phase of improvements at TB&T facilities will include additional energy-efficiency upgrades at the PABT to advance the Quality of Commute program that was authorized by the Board in July. Among the upgrades made through the program are installation of LED lighting in the Lincoln Tunnel; solar panel installation at Stewart International Airport and the Harrison Car Maintenance Facility; transformer replacements; steam system improvements; large central boiler/chiller plant upgrades; air distribution improvements; and installation of “smart” LED lighting that features sophisticated lighting controls and security cameras.

The PABT/LT project budget for which the PA received the BuildSmart NY award is $8.3 million and estimated annual energy cost savings are $900,000.
