JOB DESCRIPTION The Communications Department is responsible for raising awareness of DACS among its key external audiences including artists, artists’ estates, the arts industry, politicians and the copyright community. The team leads on reputation management, stakeholder engagement, public affairs, media relations, offline and online marketing communications, brand management, external events and internal communications. A key objective is to continue to develop relationships with new and emerging artists and to promote DACS’ profile to a wider constituency of artists and artists’ estates. JOB TITLE: Communications Manager

REPORTS TO: Head of Communications

KEY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To work closely with the Head of Communications and wider Communications Team to deliver DACS’ communications strategy.

Be a creative and solution-orientated manager with responsibility for communications, marketing, media, public relations and events, supporting the recruitment of customers and artists and delivering a consistent brand presence across the organisation and at external events.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Work flexibly to address the ever-changing communications needs of DACS and the Art360 Foundation

2. Ensure DACS’ and Art360 Foundation services are communicated consistently and compellingly to artists and clients, supporting the delivery of commercial and reputational goals Provide counsel for colleagues representing DACS to external audiences, to

ensure that DACS is consistently represented to a high standard. Prioritisation of artists recruitment in all communication planning and delivery.

3. Support the planning and implementation of a strategically curated programme of events for DACS and the Art360 Foundation. Advise on and deliver quality event materials and collateral Working with colleagues in other teams to ensure events deliver against

commercial objectives Promoting the event through our networks, stakeholder lists and target

audiences

4. Support the profile and reputation of DACS and the Art360 Foundation both proactively and reactively. Provide consistent advice on how to protect and enhance DACS’ and Art360

Foundation’s reputation among artists and the wider art world Developing and maintaining good relationships with external partners and

stakeholders Researching and writing content and collateral Securing a high level of coverage, in print and online, maximising social media

tools where relevant

5. Be a spokesperson and ambassador for DACS and Art360 Foundation. Attend relevant external events and communicate DACS and Art360

Foundation’s key messages consistently and compellingly Design and deliver presentations to internal and external audiences

6. Develop, safeguard, and champion the DACS brand and sub-brands, across all channels, ensuring communications activities help deliver DACS’ brand strategy. Ensure internal buy-in and understanding of DACS’ brand strategy.

7. Remain up to date with developments within copyright, digital technology and the contemporary art scene by attending appropriate events, subscribing to appropriate specialist reading materials and attending key meetings and events and seminars in the UK.

8. Manage the divulged communications budget for your core areas of activity ensuring planned expenditure is not exceeded and maximum value is achieved from all external suppliers and partners.

9. Operate as a professional team player by fostering close working relationships with colleagues, maximising opportunities to work collaboratively, exchanging information and finding creative solutions to problems.

10.Support a culture of cross-organisational working that promotes the reputation of the communication team internally, and encourages shared responsibility for commercial objectives.

11.Demonstrate a commitment to the ethos and values of DACS and act as an ambassador for DACS in the art-world and related industries.

12.Demonstrate an understanding of, and a commitment to, equal opportunities and diversity.

13.Any other duties that are commensurate with the role.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Essential:

1. A creative and strategic thinker with a least four years’ experience in managing communications and campaigns that increase awareness and engagement.

2. A commercial mindset and demonstrable understanding of how communications programmes support commercial objectives.

3. Demonstrable knowledge and experience of a broad range of communications activities – including coordinating events, producing publications, running media campaigns etc.

4. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills with an ability to target communications to different audiences.

5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

6. Confident networker with an understanding of the importance of relationship building to an organisation’s reputation and public activity.

7. Knowledge of digital communications including experience of maintaining websites and increasing the reach of social media platforms.

8. Experience of managing budgets.

9. Drive, motivation and enthusiasm for collaborative working in a non-profit organisation.

10. Ability to prioritise and multi-task within a busy working environment.

11. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable:

1. Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, website content management systems and email marketing software.

2. Experience in building corporate partnerships and/or securing sponsorships. 

3. Knowledge of line management.

4. An interest in and knowledge of the visual arts.
