This year for History Fair, we were assigned the theme Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange in History. We had very few options as to what our topic was going to be. There were many individuals who have explored the world while encountering and exchanging countless of materials, thus making it difficult to choose our topic. We narrowed our options down until we chose Pablo Escobar, the notorious Colombian drug dealer. We knew Pablo Escobar was the right topic, seeing that he encountered several powerful individuals who helped him exchange cocaine along with other drugs into the U.S. Although we never learned about Pablo Escobar in class, we knew that he was a famous drug dealer who explored the world on a quest for power over the Colombian cocaine smuggling business. We wanted to see the extent of Escobars influence on drug trade. We were also determined to find out more about Pablo Escobar. We conducted some of our research at school with the time provided in class; however, we also utilized Google Drive and Google Docs to share the information that we collected while at home. It enabled us to effectively work and communicate our ideas. In addition, we sought out the most detailed sources that touched upon Pablos exploration, who he encountered, and what he exchanged in the process. We found entire websites that focused on the routes that he explored and later utilized. In addition, we found many website with galleries about his personal life and family. There was a significant amount of information about Pablo Escobars drug business and family. We composed all the information onto a document and selected from the best sources gathered. Next, we made sure we cited the information in the correct format, MLA, and created a bibliography.Once all the information needed had been collected, we decided to use a website to present our research. The use of a website gave us the opportunity to inform our readers about Pablo Escobars exploration, encounter, and exchange through multifarious multimedia sources. In addition, we have past experience with creating websites for History Fair. Websites also provided ease of access and simple organization. We also have taken technology courses at school, prompting us to create a website over the other category. Our project correlates with the National History Day theme of Encounter, Exchange, and Exploration due to the fact that Pablo Escobars drug trade stimulated encounters with various clients. It was imperative that Escobar kept away from the authorities which necessitated the need for Pablo Escobar to explore new trade routes for his product. Finally, Escobar received various methods of payments in exchange for his drugs. Money, weapons, property, and supplies to create drugs were commonly exchanged for Pablo Escobars services. Escobar is an influential figure even after his death and completely revolutionized the drug trade through his exchanges, encounters, and explorations. Pablo Escobar is an upstanding and amazing example for this NHD History Fair Theme as he highlights all three elements of the theme presented.
